hip and butt dysphoria

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am looking for advice if anyone has it on dealing with dysphoria around my hips and butt? I have a good chest binder and like to think i can pass fairly well, but I have a very shapely bottom that causes me a lot of discomfort...

I tend to buy specific styles of pants that mask the shape better, but even still sometimes I'll walk by a floor length mirror and cringe ? I've seen stuff about compression shorts helping, but want to know if anyone has recommendations before I buy...most of the shorts i find advertise compression specifically in ways i DON'T want... go figure...

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated, either for shorts or other methods to get a flatter looking backside. I'll be getting on testosterone soon and hoping that will help redistribe fat into, better areas, but I can't be sure of that and if so how long it might take.

Testosterone is powerful stuff. Most trans men can pass within a year. Then we never see them again because they go rushing off into their new manly lives and forget all about us <sniff>.

Seriously though, I have the opposite problem (my white backside be FLAT). If you're starting T soon, start an exercise program that concentrates on your upper body and wear boxy bottoms. Your butt will dissolve before you know it.

Hugs!

Like Jackie suggested, excercise.

A man's bottom, especially a large well muscled one, is very much a different shape than a woman's and the testosterone will play a big part in muscle building.

Now this is something I can speak to....

I have struggled with hip and butt dysphoria, even before I was out I would wear huge, like 4XL, flannels over black or dark colored shirts, or hoodies. I cannot recommend hoodies enough, there are so many types to choose from, but I would suggest Champion as the best. I know that it is going into the summer season, making this a bit harder, but their hoodies have good lining so they don't get very sweaty so it is not so bad. Another thing I would suggest that I personally use almost every day is a men's compression shirt, especially if you wear it with a binder. Only rarely should you layer them, but when you do you are completely flat, it is truly amazing. I almost started crying the first time that I was able to actually walk outside in a t-shirt and nothing else. Cargo or jean shorts, while not exactly the best of fashion, work really well to make you look a bit taller and pass 100 times better. Since the shirts are very straight, they give you a more square shape. You have literally no idea how many guys dress like that. They need to be down to the knee though, any higher and they are more like women's pants.

Ok, that was really long, but if you have any more questions you could always message me.

  • 4 weeks later...

Thanks yall! I started on T a couple weeks ago and haven't had a second to breath, much less get inti a good workout routine like I'd want to ? but hopefully with the semester ending and if i can get moved into a new place pretty soon I'll have some time to find somrthing that works for me, and hopefully keep it up through the next semester! Cargo shorts have been my best bet for years, so hoping that those plus the T gives me a more comfortable summer than any others so far...

If i could a observation here. What you are describing is not gender dysphoria but body dismorphic disorder or Bdd.

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), or body dysmorphia, is a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance. These flaws are often unnoticeable to others.

You might have BDD if you:

worry a lot about a specific area of your body

spend a lot of time comparing your looks with other people's

look at yourself in mirrors a lot or avoid mirrors altogether

go to a lot of effort to conceal flaws such as choosing clothes that sheild/hide your body.

I noticed you have started Testosterone. Have you run through BDD with your therapist/Doctor?

If not then I would question your health proffesional regarding this. because taking hormones for something they may actually be BDD is very wrong and needs to be addressed.

Sorry if i sound like an old kill joy. But you are taking a BIG step. Just make sure its in the right direction

I have read some of it, mostly in areas specifically targeted at the LGBTQ+ peoples.   You also have to take into account what and who is behind the words, not just the words themselves. Together that creates context, right? Let's take some examples, under the Department of Health & Human Services section:   "Radical actors inside and outside government are promoting harmful identity politics that replaces biological sex with subjective notions of “gender identity” and bases a person’s worth on his or her race, sex, or other identities. This destructive dogma, under the guise of “equity,” threatens American’s fundamental liberties as well as the health and well-being of children and adults alike."   or   "Families comprised of a married mother, father, and their children are the foundation of a well-ordered nation and healthy society. Unfortunately, family policies and programs under President Biden’s HHS are fraught with agenda items focusing on “LGBTQ+ equity,” subsidizing single-motherhood, disincentivizing work, and penalizing marriage. These policies should be repealed and replaced by policies that support the formation of stable, married, nuclear families."   From a wording perspective, who doesn't want to protect the health and well-being of Americans or think that families aren't good for America? But let's take a look at the author, Roger Severino. He's well-quoted to be against LGBTQ+ anything, has standard christian nationalist views, supports conversion therapy, etc.   So when he uses words like "threatens the health and well-being of children and adults alike" it's not about actual health, it's about enforcing cis-gendered ideology because he (and the rest of the Heritage Foundation) believe LGBTQ+ people and communities are harmful. Or when he invokes the family through the lens of, let's just say dog whistles including the "penalization of marriage" (how and where?!), he idealizes families involving marriage of a "biological male to a biological female" and associates LGBTQ+ family equity as something unhealthy.   Who are the radical actors? Who is telling people to be trans, gay, or queer in general? No one. The idea that there can be any sort of equity between LGBTQ+ people and "normal" cis people is abhorrent to the author, so the loaded language of radical/destructive/guise/threaten are used. Families that he believes are "good" are stable/well-ordered/healthy, specifically married/nuclear ones.   Start looking into intersectionality of oppression of non-privileged groups and how that affects the concept of the family and you will understand that these platitudes are thinly veiled wrappers for christian nationalist ideology.   What's wrong with equity for queer families, to allow them full rights as parents, who are bringing up smart and able children? Or single mothers who are working three jobs to get food on plates?

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie
