Accutane and hormone therapy

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I have a question because I'm a little bit concerned. I've always had bad skin with acne. Last year I got an allergic reaction and I ended up with a face full of pustules and cysts. My dermatologist prescribed me Accutane. I've been on Accutane for 9 months. Now, it's 4 months after this treatment, and I have some relapses but they are still rare, small and disappear fastly.
I'm 22 and I want to start hormone therapy, but I'm afraid I may experience the same horror again and don't know what I can do about that.
So my question is - Has anyone else experienced such a problem?
Any information will be very helpful. Thank you!

Hi Drago.  If you are still concerned this is something to discuss with your dermatologist first to get this issue addressed correctly.

From all I've heard, going on testosterone can cause acne so again, talk to your doctor before you ask to start HRT.  They may have an answer for you.

Hi Jani. Thank you for your answer.
I'm not sure talking to my doctor is an option for me, because in Bulgaria we don't have doctors who are specialized in trans issues and some of them are really transphobic. I know the best solution is to address this question to a dermatologist, but I don't know anyone who can help me. Do not get me wrong, I don't want prescription or something like this here. I just share an experience ?

That's something that worries me as well. I've been on Accutane previously and I also wonder if I'll need to take it again once on T.
Sure, it's a pain in the butt to have to deal with acne, but going through the process of hrt is essentially going through puberty again, and in that case, having acne again. If hrt is something you want, my best advice would be wash your face and don't touch your face to limit the amount of oils contacting your face. If Accutane is something you need in the future while on hrt, there's nothing wrong with going on it again.

An endocrinologist or other HRT doctor might have some recommendations about acne treatment as well. Acne is part of the “second puberty” after all. I have the good fortune of having a great endocrinologist who is willing to prescribe all of my other needed medications as well.

Thank you! Yes, I read more about the treatment with Accutane, and I saw it's possible to make a second course with it. I hope I won't take it again, but the future will show.?

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?

I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).
