Excellent pointers and comments from everyone, but I'd like to add one other item of importance.  As ladies we carry purses, and in the ladies room there are hooks in the stalls so we don't have to set our purses on the floor.  When I was first coming out, my wife often accompanied me to the restroom and in one situation we occupied adjoining stalls.  After we finished and were back at our table in the restaurant I got a very important lecture on where purses are supposed to be hung while doing our business.

A very good point I see of more general importance anyway. When I am out shopping and have several bags I hate having to put them on the floor as you never really know the state of it. There are three things I do when visiting - One sheck there is paper, two check the state of the stall and three check for a door hook. They are sometimes missing, perhaps due to the poor quality and in that others do as I do too with really heavy bags. A further one is check the door lock. Not essential but it is a tricky issue. When in the ladies, in a queue, I have seen women avoid going in a stall when it is dirty or there is no paper, as anyone would really. Unless they say I don't ask, just follow their lead but exchanged looks often tend to say it all. I find the tricky time is when the reel is nearly empty and I need to pickle the end of the paper out so I can get purchase on it but can be bit of a fiddle lol.

About 2 years ago I was at work and was using the ladies room (employees use the same facilities as the customers). While I was washing my hands, an older woman came in and gave me a dirty look. I brushed it off and went back to work. A few minutes later a co-worker asked if I was alright. I was like, yeah, why? It turned out that the woman made a complaint to my manager. Apparently she didn't approve of me using the  ladies. But my manager told her it didn't matter what she thought as both him and the company are all for 'diversity' and if she didn't like it, she could go elsewhere.

Kudo's to your manager for having your back! The old crotch deserved more than his reply, but he handled it as well as can be expected. Ugh - yeah I'm leery of those darned explosive flushes.

The floors in public restrooms are loaded with germs, best to avoid setting a purse or bags on the floor if possible. I've become even more mindful of this while grocery shopping with this Corona stuff going on and am careful not to set them on my kitchen counters when I return home.

All of this advice is very good. I've been slowly coming out as Trans Feminine/female for about 6 years now. No HRT, or GRS yet. One thing I have on my side is I'm Asian and short, and Smooth, and TMI thankfully not well endowed. I remember the first time I used the ladies room. Thankfully it was at my Jewish Temple where most people know me. I had to go so badly that I figured screw it, and I went potty in the ladies room which is of course the correct one for me to use. I locked myself in a stall and hovered.  I hardly ever stand to pee anymore. Only in dire situations where I simply can't get the pants and panties down fast enough or I'm in a huge hurry. One thing that was brought up was manspreading which men do. I try never to Man spread as it is not Feminine and can give you away. One day I watched videos as to how cis females urinate on a adult website. I watched merely for educational purposes should I one day get Gender Reassigment surgery. That is when I realized that Cis Females can literally pee with their legs completely together or virtually completely together. I tuck my external urethra in between my legs to get the desired effect. Sorry TMI. Thank you for all the helpful tips that will help me wee wee more like the lady I am.

Ok, I can finally say. “Been there , done that”. And yes, Shawna had to go in with me and drag me in the first few times. We haven’t had anybody say anything . Not even a sideways glance. The first time, I heard what sounded like 2 young girls come in while I was in the stall. I wouldn’t come out until they left. Since then , it’s gotten a little easier each time.

I'm glad everything came out all right in the end.

@Patti Anne I love reading about your “accomplishments “. We all had a first time, and I still use the family or gender neutral if it’s available but I use the women’s restroom when there isn’t one and don’t think twice about it.  That was trying my first time too.

Yay, you've crossed a threshold!  Once you try it you'll never [want to] go back, haha.

Been there, done that.  One time, still early on, I got caught up in a busload of teenagers; took a lot of confidence to make it through that.

Holy Toledo! Taking Spiro has definitely changed the frequency between bathroom breaks, and sometimes you gotta go worse than others! Today, I lost all remaining fear of Ladies Rooms when I barely made it! I didn’t even bother asking SL if she had to go too.

i have to say that from the time I started going 24/7, so far on this trip, I’ve not experienced any rude people, or comments from anyone unless they were kind words.  In fact, I’ve gotten more sweet smiles, mostly from other women! This is NOT what I expected! So, all in all, it’s been a really awesome response!

The SL charm must be rubbing off on me!

Spiro isn't all bad. I lost about twenty pounds of water weight. Naturally gained it all back in two weeks when I came off the Spiro, but it was nice while it lasted!

I'm glad to hear that you and @ShawnaLeigh are getting by though! Adventure!

Hugs!

Thanks Jackie! We’re about 90 minutes from home now. Just wanting a shower, to see the kitties and eat dinner! And sleep on a soft bed!

I could only imagine how happy you are to be home. I’m sure SL is just as happy to be at her new home with you and the kitties. I don’t even like leaving my bed for one night let alone how many nights you were gone, but I’m sure it was worth all of it.

Good morning, everyone! I've finally pretty much finished with this head cold. I actually got 5.5 hours of straight sleep last night without taking any cold medication...or waking up to pee. I feel amazingly rested!!   Oh, @Willow, you are in my thoughts and prayers that your throat issue becomes less of a problem over time and not more.   I'm, hopefully, going to get our grass cut today. It takes me somewhere between 2.5 and 3 hours on the zero turn mower but the ground is still so wet that I'll have to slow down a bit. At least it's supposed to be sunny and around 60.   Have a wonderful day!!

We have had some real dillies come out as the initiative sort of thing, but as @Carolyn Marie said, very few make it out of the petition signing seasons.  I am not surprised at the origin site of this thing, it is probably one of only 3 regressive leaning counties we have in the state. We actually had one of these initiatives started to make it mandatory for police to shoot dead on site any Gay behaving individuals wherever they found them.  For the most part the matters are poorly written in ways to be unenforceable even if enacted.  Thus most never become law or get to the voters.

You make some good points, AYS.  But there are usually already too many ballot propositions each election, so the proponents know it's best to wrap it all up into a nice package.  Plus, it's easier for the signature gatherers.  Otherwise they have to have a separate clipboard for each proposition.  Too much paperwork, dontcha know?   This kind of proposition is a loser in CA, so the only possible way the proponents can succeed is to give it the scariest title imaginable and try to put one over on the voters before they get wise.  Bottom line; an ice cube on a hot summer sidewalk has a better chance of success.   Carolyn Marie

Reading that article, it seems like the attorney general gets to call it whatever unless its an outright lie.  Given the nature of politics in CA, it seems like one side has the bully pulpit for sure.  Labeling it "Restricts Rights" vs "Protects Kids" is very much a matter of perspective.  Unfortunately, that matters since many voters don't bother to read.  Perhaps a better (unbiased) way to handle it would be to simply give the ballot measure a number with no title, forcing folks to read it.    I think it would have been better to handle the various issues covered by the ballot measure separately, rather than all at once.  For example, issues relating to disclosure of medical and social information to parents.  That could be its own ballot measure, rather than lumped in with everything else.  Besides, shorter and more succinct measures are more likely to be read completely.

This reminded me of an individual who, due to child sexual abuse, lived as a woman for 15 years, detransitioned and noisily insists that all trans people have his story.  His name comes up fairly often because it fits the narrative.   I don't know that anyone actually has been railroaded.  People may say it, they may look back at what happened and decide that happened.  It's a he said / she said, but it feeds a narrative that is useful for those who are already convinced that trans people are abuse victims first and foremost.  That the detransition rate is so low tells me that railroading is not actually a problem, and I regret giving the impression that I thought it was.  That so few detransition is a success story.   What is pertitent at heart is that people hear and believe all the stories out there, and the story we have to tell is not heard, because TG folk are, after all, untrustworthy in their view and unworthy of an audience.  Somehow it needs to get out there as to what the real situation is.
