WaPo: After SCOTUS Ruling, Trans Workers Stand Up for their Rights

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere but the last president actually wrote an executive order that held about as much legal power for equal rights as toilet paper. Many states were ignoring it. Now with this SCOTUS decision they have ruled that gay and transgender people are protected under title 7. I’ve heard a lot of people say erroneously that we lost rights, but since title 7 was already previously applied to housing, healthcare, and several other things, including employment (and technically the military is employment) that’s a powerful tool to gain access to things by law that were not available nationwide until now. So it is a huge victory. It’s not spelled out in title 7, but previous rulings have made these applications of title 7 extend to us in so many ways that it’s mind boggling what it covers. And it’s impossible to overturn. Just look at rowe v wade. Hasn’t been overturned yet in more than 30 years. And I’d rather have that than a piece of executive order toilet paper any day.

@Josie Beth you're right about the long term value of most Executive Orders, which is what the current occupant of the WH s going to find out if he is replaced next January.  If you live by the EO you die by the EO.  Unfortunately, too little will ever get through this dysfunctional Congress, which is why Presidents from both parties have had to resort to the EO over the last 20 years to get even short term gains.
