vocal cord surgery in 14 days. I was hopping for some advice

Hey was wondering if any has had larynx surgery and what your recover time table was, how long before you could talk, work, eat? Did you notice a big differences right away? I am not nervous. Although, my doctor ( Dr. Copper) keeps postponing me for personal reason. Twice he cancel on me and if i didn't call his office to confirm. I would of never being told. But we are a go for the 28th. So i was hopping for some advice and what to buy for food. I stop drink alcohol, cuz i was told it dehydrates your vocal cords, but beside that i have no other instructions. Cus like i said this doc keeps postponing my consult and surgery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Lex

While I didn't have this particular surgery, I researched it during the planning stages. It was a Plan B if I couldn't achieve a female voice with just vocal training.

Your recovery period is four months or so. You're not allowed to speak for the first two. You can start speaking a little after one month, but go easy. You do not want to strain or irritate your vocal chords until they're fully healed. So, no drinking of adult beverages, no smoking, etc. Food should be soft and easy to swallow. Again, you want to go as easy on your throat as you possibly can.

If you're not aware, there's a guy in New York who does the surgery with a laser. Recovery is faster (one month/four weeks) and it's outpatient. This is his web site: https://professionalvoice.org/feminization.aspx Obviously, you don't want to be anywhere NEAR New York right now, but that's the guy I was looking at while I was still training and feeling insecure about how I sound.

As an aside, I do sound like a woman now. It's Cher, but nobody questions me so I'll take it.

Hugs!

Thanks everyone. Hey Jackie Yeah my doc is doing laser. He said it will noninvasive. Not even staying at hosp. be send home the that afternoon. Wow 1month. I didn't think it was that long. It's like pulling teeth with his assistant to get any info. they keep tell you need to see the doc first. Thank for the head up..

Oh cool! Of the two procedures, I was absolutely going to go with the laser. Cheaper and with a quicker recovery time. The no talking for two weeks kind of blows (I'm not sure I could do it!), but that's way better than months. Glad I could help!

Hugs!

Ty Jackie for all your help. I am a little bit nervous cus i really am not in any position to take off or stop my business right now. I def can swing 2weeks, any longer and i would be in a bit of a jam. Ty again. Hugs

Well yesterday didn't work like I wanted to. I met a guy and started talking and he was wanting to be in a relationship. I asked my kids on how they thought of me dating a man and they said gross and said no. I guess it's time to look for women. I think that is going to be harder. Oh well I guess.

This topic reminds me of the lyrics to the Beatles song, "A Little Help From My Friends."   "What do you see when you turn out the lights?"   "I can't tell you but I know it's mine."   Carolyn Marie

@Ivy have you read the actual document?   Has anyone else out there read it?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am reading the Project 2025 document https://www.project2025.org/policy/   This will take some time.  I read the forward and I want to read it again later.   I read some criticism of it outside here and I will be looking for it in the light of what has been posted here and there.  Some of the criticism is bosh.   @MaeBe have you read the actual document?

      *older, not holder, oops :P

      No problem!

Old topic, but I gotta say my favorites are: "Stop hitting on minors" (doesn't work if you're holder tho) and "Sure as [squid] not you"

Abigail, I think we will just leave the other posts where they are, and the discussion can start anew here.  It is possible to do what you ask, but would disrupt the flow of the discussion in the other thread, and would require more work than it's worth.   Carolyn Marie

I am in too good a mood to earn my certificate today. I am sure something will happen that will put me on the path to earning it.

It's likely most cis-women consider a fitting unnecessary "because they know what  they wear" and get used to the wrong size.  The instructions for what your size is are simple and why go to any further effort?  You measure your bandsize and you measure your max and subtract the two to get the needed info for the cup size.  Then you buy the same size for years until it hurts or something.

Congratulations Lorelei! Yes, it is a powerful feeling to have the documents that say "you are you".

Here is space for discussion on this, since the topic is large and could derail another thread SOMEBODY started.   Could some dear, sweet, kind Moderator pull everything related to this from the Voting for Trump thread and put it here?  I don't know if you can do that; I am the new girl on the block after all (blinks sweetly).
