Hi. I’m Rory.  I’m just starting journey.  Still struggling to admit to myself that I may be a trans woman.  But reading through some of the posts here has started to help me realize I’m not as alone as I think.

Welcome Rory.  I think many of us have struggled with this issue.  My time here and time with a therapist helped meatier looking back at my life as well as feeling my present situation.  Give it time, there is no rush.  Self discovery, wherever it takes you, is worth the effort.

Hugs,

Charlize

Hi Rory!  nice to meet you and Welcome!

I am just starting also, and I understand the feelings you describe.  Its a rollercoaster of emotions and the end goals are not always clear.
Same reason I thankfully found this Forum and its been VERY helpful.

Just like @Charlize the experiences I've read here, and now just starting therapy has given me much more confidence that even if I don't know where I'm going yet, I know I am on the right path.  I am hoping the same for you❣️

Deep breaths ... one step at a time

Welcome Rory, I’m glad you found our forum. In some ways, this is a wonderful era to come to understand just who you really are...not necessarily your specific circumstances but generally. When I first started asking the hard questions at 11 years old, there were absolutely no resources or support anywhere to me. Even as a child at that age, could I trust an adult with this information? I remember thinking to myself, “I am probably the only boy in the world who wants to be a girl.” It seemed sad and profound at the time and I felt completely alone so I relate to this statement above to some degree.

Times have changed and now there are plenty of resources and areas of support available. We’re here for exactly that reason. If you have any questions, need any advice, or just need a friend, reaching out here is one of the best ways to help yourself.

Warmest Regards,

Susan R?

Welcome Rory!

The journey of self discovery takes time but you have lots of support here no matter where it takes you. Ask questions, read posts and most importantly, try and find a therapist who specializes in gender identity to help you sort through things.

Hi Rory,

It's never easy to figure things out about ourselves alone. We all generally tend to feel better if we are with other's that help us feel understood and appreciated. I know you'll find a lot of support here. Once you've had some time to chat with folks and share some thoughts about how you are feeling, I bet you will feel much better.

Hi Rory, welcome! I'm also brand new, so it's nice meeting other newbies around TGP. Finding yourself is a wonderful thing. Enjoy the ride and let us know if you want to talk about it more or are even slightly curious about taking the next steps ?  and those steps don't necessarily have to be medical.

Thanks Alexxiss. I still think I’m a good ways away from anything medical.  Now I’m just looking for ways to finally express this part of myself and work through some of what I am feeling

Yay. What ways are you thinking right now?

Don’t know really.  I have found I do love shopping for clothes.  But since I’m not out to a lot of people, I don’t get an opportunity to try a lot on.

Hey again other Rory! If you like shopping and fashion, a real baby step you could do even if you can't get out and try on clothes for yourself would be to start compiling a Pinterest board to find fashion inspiration. There's lots of great style tips out there that'll help give you directions when you do get the chance to go out shopping irl.

Thanks other Rory. My Amazon wish list is getting full! I always hated shopping for men’s clothing. Always felt awkward, like nothing was really me. But shopping for women’s clothing is like an exciting new world.

Me too, Rory!  I have never enjoyed shopping for men's clothing, and never get a "Wow" factor when I try something on.

Now, Women's clothes?  that's totally different.  Now I know why women like to go shopping, and I wish I could actually shop out .... someday.

But, for me Amazon has been a lifeline, and I enjoy the online browsing (and when they email me recommendations) and waiting for my new items to arrive to try on.   Have fun shopping❣️

I know right.  I’ve bought the same blue jeans for the last decade because I could never found anything I really was comfortable with.  But women’s clothing!!!   I can’t stop looking at dresses and a new pair of leggings is like Christmas.

I agree.  But sometimes unethical conduct must still be legal, because the cure would be worse than the disease.  One problem we have today with the internet is the trolls can gang up on someone and destroy them - we see the with school bullying as well.   He was in the Southern Baptist Convention, and maybe he should have moved his church over to say the American Baptists, who might have been able to help him. A Southern Baptist pastor is king in his church, peerless, which means he could not have gone for help in his church.  And he could not have gone for help from any other pastor in the SBC because they likely affirm the SBC statements on these matters.  I think he was stuck.    I read this when it came out in the news.  Very sad situation.

One organization that I know of that is dedicated to assisting LGBT seniors is SAGE.  They advocate for, and have services for, all LGBT folks, not just trans folk.  You can find their website Here.  I am not sure what, if anything, they have in terms of financial assistance.  I'll let you know if I find anything else.   Carolyn Marie

This was an angle that I was very suspicious of as well, and may be the hook on which the settlement was hung.      Not at all strange especially if they had former patients who moved there that still owed money on their bills or they were buying hospital supplies from a Texas corporation. They may have business licenses in other states as well.  Small loss, but saxeT shot itself in the foot there since the license was a source of income to the state.

Nah it's fine, I'm past the point of really blaming them most of the time. I've gotten used to it, and they could be a whole lot worse.   I'm glad you have a good place, though <3

I wonder about the professional knowledge level here.  Men have milk ducts.  She, as a nurse, should know this.  This is interesting  https://www.livescience.com/45732-can-men-lactate.html  Yes, men can lactate and have lactated, trans or cis.  The idea that Birdie does not have milk ducts or tissue is just plain wrong.  Her statement indicates that she has not looked at the medical record, which she should be familiar with to treat the patient.
    • Ivy
Trans women can lactate under the right conditions. But that's not even the case in your situation.  It's so stupid how they simply refuse to accept your reality.
    • missyjo
I used to include going ti worship but no longer    awkward good fir you. enjoy. :)   raine  sorry. my family is pretty lousy at support too. my part time job helps alot. hope it gets better fir you n all
    • Ashley0616
It takes a lot to make me that way. Then it depends on which side comes out. I could simply walk away or be very confrontational. I'm used to being made fun of and criticized. I don't take to kindly if someone talks about my kids or family though.
    • missyjo
aren't folks odd ..just dress differently..like pick to be a boy for today instead of the girl you're screaming you are really..so that I can be more comfortable...needs   I'm sorry   I have family wedding this summer too..I've said for 2 years I'm not going n I've skipped holidays for that period..now I'm being told I'd best be there in boy mode...yeah right..laughs   sorry. I'm planning on once again skipping the event. until you'll let me attend as myself, I guess you dint really miss me that much .so I find something else to do n just accept the number of folks who unconditionally love me is a lot smaller than claimed.  oh well.   good luck sweetie

I suppose both sides can claim a win they didn't get.

Mia, forgive me, I should have introduced myself. Hi, I’m Bette. I work with trans youth and I have many young trans friends; the other day I was at a party with 30-40 of them. If you’re envious of young trans folks I understand; when I left that party I broke down in tears thinking of all I’d missed out on as a young person. But I was also happy for them, and if anyone were to try and take away their happiness I would fight for them with all my strength.   I don’t know you, but it seems to me you’re angry about more than just your inability to find help? I’m very sorry to hear that you are struggling, but I hope you are not blaming young trans folks for that. Imo there is a generation gap in the trans community and it needs healing, not exacerbating. We are far stronger when we are united.
