The preaching religion would drive me nuts. I find those who overtly preach to be Pharisees. We all have our own journeys and I am a believer in planting good seeds and showing through example not forcing my beliefs on others. I always try to tell others who ask what I think and preface it by saying it is my opinion and if what I say makes sense to them great. I'd rather preach by example and encouragement not fire and brimstone.

In regard to electrolysis and laser I guess everyone needs to find out the rules in their own state, insurance, surgeon and make decisions based on your circumstances but at least knowledge is power.

She did it while treating my lips for many hours.  On a couple of occasions I got up and quit because the combination of pain and helplessness while she worked out her own religious and social guilt (for working with a trans person) on me while I was stuck in the chair listening to it.  Paying for the experience.

My only open door is a mental health day center where they call me he (I'm legally she and more naturally femme than anyone there).  I was referred there last week because I was non responsive at the dentist (I was saying nothing because they were calling me he over and over in front of everybody, and I was made up very nice at the time.  It hurt because they did it spitefully to publically shame me because they are stressed about covid rules.  Only I can go to get my teeth cleaned and find the matrix trying to bury me back in the system!!   They stopped me for twelve years after my GD diagnosis until I could get out from under them.  Now that I'm close to living its trying to stop me again.  Matrix wants me to glue macaroni and glitter for 20yr old staff approval instead of washing dishes or stock shelves. and I have done much more than that!!!  I'm blown away by people with paying jobs families kids.  It's not meant to be.  Never was.

I have family all over the country including CA and NY and nowhere to go.  I'm actually not useless and pretty strong still hope someone can help me find stuff because I'm not able to hold it all together.  The info and research is like soup in my hands.

I am proud of your drive to overcome all obstacles to your being yourself. Keep fighting and it will be worth it. I am going through some of the same things but have yet to get as far as you have. Keep going girl you are a strong woman and always remind yourself that you will make it and take setbacks in stride.

Jani Didn't your IPO cover the Elect..

@Lexi C No my health insurance didn't cover any of my treatments or procedures.  According to my spreadsheet (I'm a numbers geek) I've got $60k invested in this journey to Me.  At first you might say ouch, that's a lot but in reality it's been a bargain!

Jani's right, that is pretty reasonable given today's real world dollars. I spend over 25K on electrolysis alone.

Hugs @Ms Maddie, you're strong, you have to be on this path, you will get past this

I'll see how strong my heart gets to overcome that weakness

Dear Maddie.  I hope and pray you can find a path to a supportive gender therapist.  What I've learned in just a few sessions from my wonderful therapist is that the Starting Point to healing is Self Acceptance.

You are already Perfect just as you are.  Others will not see that because of their own "weaknesses".  You don't have to take on their problems.

Deep breaths ... one step at a time❣️

Now I did laser hair on Face/Genitals/Legs, combining that with everything I’ve put into my transition, even including clothing; surgery, and legal stuff. I’ve probably spent near $35K.  I am also a numbers person and I keep up with all my expenses on a daily basis.  This journey isn’t cheap. The financial aspect is just as big as the physical/emotional aspects!

Thanks Lexi.

I'm not suicidal but I acknowledge that there are situations possible in this world that could make me consider it.

Pact on.

Love and gratitude

All together I'm at around $24k at this point and a long ways to go.  It would be so much more, except that my prescriptions, doctor visits, and therapy have been mostly covered by insurance!

Bottom hair removal is a requirement with the surgeon I'm talking to.   They have a clinic that can pre authorize laser, but not electro.  I have little faith in laser, but you saying you went laser for the bottom clearing gives me some hope Kylie.

@Lexi C that is my total number, surgeries, therapy, electrolysis, etc. over 5 years.  I'm at >$14k for electro to date.  I have self funded my journey.

@Ms Maddie My insurance covered almost all my surgery minus my copay/out of pocket max for my in/network. My insurance did not cover my laser although. I had laser down below. While I notice since surgery I’ve had some small external health growth; everything inside was taken care of with the intra-op hair removal process. Good insurance has been a blessing!

Can I just say quickly re the bathroom question, how come no-one ever seems to suggest building more gender-neutral toilets?

With the onslaught of bills targeting trans kids in the US and the current attempt to radically curtail gender-affirming treatment for kids in the UK I think you could just as easily ask why are things so hard for trans kids. Given the volatile political situation around them, I am pleased to hear there are still services attempting to help them.
    • KayC
@Mia Marie I agree that it seems most of the focus is on Trans Youth.  And maybe that is in part because of protecting Trans Youth from the political environment, and to give them a chance to transition at an earlier age.  Many of our generation have been cloistered for most of our lives by societal exceptions and I think that has made it more difficult to be Visible ... until Now. So I guess my answer is ... Be Visible and seek out, or even start, support groups in your local area.  Planned Parenthood does provide Gender Affirming Care and therapy in most U.S. regions (and they take Medicare!).
    • KayC
As a registered CA voter I would be HAPPY to vote against this bill ... BUT as @Carolyn Marie mentioned it has little chance to make the ballot.  Hopefully this will put the Death Knell on the bill.   wrt Parents Rights of notification.  I would agree if there was potential harm to a child, or if the child was involved in potentially harming somebody else.  BUT, that would not be the case in the preponderance of situations.  The decision to Come Out to one's own parents should be up to the individual child only.  If the child does not feel Secure or Safe in their household then it should not be up to the State or School to make that determination. If the child did feel safe and secure they would have probably already come out.  If they haven't ... then the situation seems obvious.  Protect the Child, not the System.

Great news!  We ARE starting to receive more public support and visibility in opposition to these types of horrendous and wasteful bills.

Nice to meet you @mattie22 , and Welcome! Your feelings are very normal.  I felt much the same at the beginning of my Journey.  But, in fact it is a 'journey' that is unique to each of our individual lives.  There is not a specific or pre-determined destination.  That's up to you to discover as you find your way. You already received some great Encouragement here.  I hope stay with us, and you will both discover and contribute.  Deeps breaths ... one step at a time

Incredible news for transgender and abortion providers and patients in Maine. Despite violent threats, Gov. Janet Mills of Maine has signed a sanctuary bill into law. It even enshrines WPATH Standards of Care as protected by Maine.   https://twitter.com/ErinInTheMorn/status/1782894991368462520/photo/1

Basically my only source of validation is from close friends who know I'm trans 😅   I'm not a very masculine-looking guy in general, and I've had to stop binding due to pain, so strangers and physical validation aren't things I can get. My family still uses she/her pronouns and female terms with me, so there's not much validation at home, either.   I'm grateful I have friends that are willing to use my pronouns and such, though. It makes me feel a lot better.

I use my  chosen name online and when ever I can. I play some online game and only go by that name. That is how everyone there know me. Yes it does feel great to be called the name you prefer.

I was ten years old when my mom walked in on me frolicking around my room dressed up in her bra, panties, and some pantyhose. I had been doing this in the privacy of my bedroom for a little while now so I had my own little stash box I kept full of different panties, bras, etc ... of hers. My mom's underwear was so easy for me to come by and she was a very attractive woman, classy, elegant. Well when she walked in on me, she looked at me with disgust and said to me... "If I wanted to run around like mommy's little girl instead of mommy's little boy, then she was going to treat me like mommy's little girl."  She left my bedroom after telling me NOT to change or get dressed or anything and returned with a few of her work skirts and blouses and such. She made me model off her outfits for her and I have to admit ... I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT. I felt so sexy, and feminine. And she knew I loved it.  She told me we can do this every weekend if I'd like. It would be OUR little secret.

The usual social ways, of course.  Taking care of my partners and stepkids, being involved in my community.  That makes me feel good about my role.   As for physical validation and gender... probably the most euphoric experience is sex.  I grew up with my mother telling me that my flat and boyish body was strange, that my intersex anatomy was shameful, that no man would want me. So experiencing what I was told I could never have is physical proof that I'm actually worth something.
