What Must I do to be Saved?

Much in life is a choice. Choosing what to eat, choosing what car or house to buy. Even who we want to be with. Some choices are harder than others. There is a choice that is much bigger than any of that and it affects eternity.

A lot of churches and many that call themselves Christian will beat you over the head with Old Testament scriptures they say you need to follow to get to heaven. Most every one of us has experienced that. That is not the message of Jesus!

The title of this message is what the jailer asked Paul in Acts 16, when none of the prisoners left after all the jails doors opened mysteriously in the middle of the night. When the jailer realized everyone could have got away but didn’t, he had to know why.

Jesus emphasized that you must be born again. Paul addressed it in Romans 10. He said “if you confess with your mouth the LORD Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

At first glance many that call themselves Christian will say “I believe” They miss the word I capitalized in Bold. Even the Devil and the demons believe in God. Lord is defined by Webster as: “a ruler by hereditary right or preeminence to whom service and obedience are due” I think of it as describing my King.

Before I got saved, the king of my life was me. When I got saved the King of my life became Jesus.

You don’t need a church to do that. There are a bunch of scripts written by many different people that you can read from, but actually you can do it in your own words. I did! No one told me what to say.

Once you do that and are sincere, you will reap what Paul talks about in 2 Corinthians 5. He said “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Christ Jesus, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.”

Jeremiah 29:13 says: “you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

As I already stated, most of us have been told things that seem to say we can’t get to heaven because of who or what we are, or what we have done. Some here have suffered abuse because of what others including church goers think and do. That is not what Jesus did or said when He walked the earth. That is not what the Apostles did. After Paul met Jesus on the road and regained his sight, he became one of the Apostles. He was beaten many times, but he always offered Grace to everyone. All of the Apostles and true disciples were willing to die for the message of Grace through Faith in Jesus.

I did what it says in Romans 10 forty years ago and it is as REAL for me today as it was then. I was not in a church of any kind at the time. I told Jesus He was my Lord and I knew I couldn't save myself. I asked Him to totally take over my life to do with as He wanted. He changed me in ways that also affected others around me.

The bible says not to forsake the assembling together, but that may not be possible if some of the church members don’t want you there.  The assembling together does not save you.  It was really meant for Christians to get together and help each other in our daily life struggles by edifying each other; much like this website does to help with our own unique struggles.

Although not Latine myself, I have many warm dealings and acquaintances in this group of people helping the Trans folks in this area.  I have helped out at many of their events and will be keeping it up as long as I can.  Some places do care about Trans people.

I think this question is interesting, important, and potentially impossible to answer. In my case, at various times throughout my life, I have said to myself, "I want to be a woman", or "I want to live as a woman". Does that mean that, now I am 18 months into physical transition, I am a woman? All I can say is that sometimes I feel I am and sometimes I don't, and I don't know if that will ever change. So I try not to worry about it, and to focus on tangible steps I can take towards becoming more comfortable in my body: HRT, hair removal, hair transplants, voice training, tracheal shave, other surgeries which I may or may not decide are necessary. Also on how best to present myself so that I feel proud and happy and others treat me as I want to be treated. In my view, it is societal conditioning that makes many of us see transition as a journey from one binary to another, and I think many of us would be happier if we could let go of that conditioning.

That's kind of the risk businesses accept when they decide to take a stance on an issue.  Any issue.  There have certainly been efforts aimed at "right wing" or conservative businesses.  Chick-fil-a being notable.  In general, I think businesses usually make the best profits if they avoid divisive issues and focus on selling stuff.  Of course there's always exceptions to that idea, where sales increase from notoriety.

Lived in Arizona in 2001 when the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees to win the World Series. That was a lot of fun (got to be a photographer at a few of the games) ... Would love to see an MLB franchise come to North Carolina ... Followed the Mets for awhile but they can't seem to get out of their own way...

Welcome @Abby Gen ... You are not alone in feeling like you are in an unwinnable situation. There are a lot of us who recognize that our inner desires (in my case, the desire to present more feminine as someone born male) are incongruent with all that is expected of us from those closest to us. We know that to step down the path to satisfying our desires could mean the end of many significant relationships. In my case, throw in a religious component (I am Catholic) and well, unwinnable indeed.   Sending positive vibes and grace and encouragement your way. I think you'll find this is a safe place full of many kind people who are here to listen and walk the path with you...   Easy

The same boat indeed... sometimes when I come on here, I read other people typing my exact thoughts... 😉   I think it was you a few weeks ago who wrote about your desire to "present feminine" and that turned a light on for me. That's it! There is this very strong urge in me to present myself as feminine to the world around me. What does that mean? That I am a woman or just that I have a strong feminine dimension to myself? I have long since understood it is about much more than fashion.   It has been this way since I started wearing girls underwear in grade school. I would dare myself to go to school that way, on the one hand feverishly trying to hide what I had on underneath my jeans/shorts (lest I get caught and totally humiliated). Yet, also proud of the underwear I had on and what it represented and somehow wanting the world to know. What a crazy world...    Blessings to you @MaeBe! Thanks for the feedback!   Easy

The Trevor Project, GLAAD and Sage; an organization whose mission is to save the lives of trans youth, an organization dedicated to the inclusion and fair representation of LGBT people in the media, and SAGE, an organization dedicated to the health, safety and legal rights of LGBT elders.  These are among the groups the NCPPR is targeting?  WTH to they have to do with trans minor's surgeries, of which there are almost none?   Bigotry and hate rear their ugly heads, and corporate America cowers in fear.  Disgusting and disheartening, but not surprising.  The haters have made their point with their boycotts.  🥺  ☹️   Carolyn Marie
