Well I am newly registered here but should say that i have been using this site as a reference for over a year. I am a 42yo, married, MTF and have been on HRT for a year and a half. The reason i joined is that I live in a rural area and there no support groups near me (the closest is 1-1/2 hours away). the area I live in is not very welcoming to people that have alternative lifestyles although I have not encountered any negative situations so far due to me not being out yet. My wife and a few friends do know about me being transgender but in public I still present as male for now (i can still hide the changes). the changes that are most noticeable would be that I have grown my hair out, pierced my ears and my chest is developing.

I just wanted to introduce myself so the other members would know a little about me.

Welcome!  Nice to meet you!

Since you're already familiar with the Forum I am sure you know its a great place to build "community" with others here, and both gain insight from others experience and share your own.  So, looking forward to hearing more from you.

btw, @unknown if you decide you'd like to change your Profile name, just ask one of the Admins and they can do it for you ?

Deep breaths ... one step at a time

Dear Slightly Less Unknown,

I only started emerging from the egg since the pandemic started. I got the suggestion to join a (once a month) support group in my county and it meets virtually. Then joined another one elsewhere in my state and was welcomed even though I'm not a resident, and it's virtual too (also once a month), so maybe there are some for you that aren't exactly in your neighborhood but in your region at least?

Hi, unknown.  Welcome!

Congratulations on being out to your wife and friends.

I, too, live in a rural area an hour and a half from the nearest support group.  I came out when chest development and overall dysphoria dictated that I couldn't keep my transition under wraps any longer.

I totally misjudged my rural neighbours.  They are mostly farmers, fishermen and hillbillies and quite conservative, so I feared the worst.  But they are all *decent people*.  Some were supportive; some were accepting; some were merely tolerant.  In more than three years, no one has been rude or nasty to my face, and I haven't heard any rumours about negative talk behind my back.

I found that people were happy to let me be, and everyone is civil to me.  I hope it turns out the same for you.

Regards,

Kathy

I want to say thankyou for the warm welcome. I will be posting more as I see fit in the future.

At this point I am taking my transition at the speed that I feel confrontable at. I have no set dates that things have to be done by. I do know that by spring my chest is going to be hard to hide and i will be needing to do some more coming out by then.

again thanks.

Well, you hope anyway. At two years, mine's still pretty easy to overlook. ?

Take your time. We'll be here when you need to say something.

Hugs!
