ENDA was introduced in the Senate yesterday, August 5. The press release is here: http://merkley.senate.gov/newsroom/press/r...a0-fa605c57aaaf

After adding in all of the current co-sponsors of the Senate version of ENDA, there are 43 confirmed yes votes. Another 17 is needed to make it through the Senate.

There are 30 states with unconfirmed Senators: AK, AL, AR, AZ, CO, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NV, OH, OK, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, WV, WY

People in those states should call and ask for their Senators' support, as well as co-sponsorship of the bill. You can find their contact info here: http://docs.google.com/View?docID=dc5pbmw3...evision=_latest

Please call and ask them to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and to co-sponsor the bill. It really is as fundamental as that. YOUR phonecall matters if you live in these locations.

I am amazed to see Texas in the list of the 30.

I thought that so much of the state is living in the past so firmly that we would never be on the forward looking side of this one.

YeeeHaaa!

We got something right!

Love ya,

Sally

Wrongo. Those are UNconfirmed states. Being listed means you and the other "yeehaaa"ers need to make a phonecall and get on your Senator's case. Feel free to use the link sis :)

I already talked to my senators here in PA awhile ago, and recently got an email back about it and some other stuff saying that at least one of them is a co-sponsor ^^

Come on everyone! Call your senators! WE CAN DO THIS

Guess I had better clean my glasses - I was pretty sure we would not be among the leaders in this area.

I'll have to make a phone call I guess, our Senators can't read any better than I do.

Love ya,

Sally

Feels a moment of soapboxism coming on....goes with this one.

And here's the thing, when you (meaning any of us, this is addressed to the populus) go to apply for the job, or know that you just got fired unjustly or your supervisor didn't give you the position that you were qualified for, how will you feel "righteous outrage" if you know that the opportunity was there for you to say "hey you can't just do this to me its not alright" and you passed on it by not being willing to speak up NOW. You can't gain something if you are never willing to say "I need that". "My son needs that". "My daughter needs that". The means by which it can be obtained has been crafted FOR you, the least you can do is say "yes, that is a needed here".

And now I will get off my soapbox.

To Mary Landreau - Louisiana Senator - New Orleans - I had to fill out a form. So if I get outed IT"S YOUR FAULT!

The proper subject would most likely be Employment rights. But it also includes discrimination. I am a diagnosed transgender person - but mainstream, married and working as a design professional in New Orleans. I was fired when I revealed to my HR department I was in transition for the condition of Intersex, a situation I have had since birth. I am not chosing being transgendered, I was born the way I am. I am under the care of three physicians and a therapist so this conditioned is documented - yet I have no protection under the law. If I had been gay or handicapped I would have rights and recourse for discriminatory treatment by employers.

So this is a plea to have you suppost the ENDA which is coming up for review. We are all here in this world to live a full life and not be discriminated against because of something we were born with. Thank you for your consideration.

Lizzy the Outed now in Washington DC

Update: same message was sent to David Vitter - my actual Senator - I work in one district and live in the other.

I just sent one to Landreau. Thought about putting one into Vitter just for the hell of it, then realised there wasn't even a "civil rights" in the subject options.
