Changing Anti Androgens

Ive taken androcur for about 6 months or so now and all has been well. The only issue being that its rather expensive ^^. In an effort to make sure I dont blow all my insurance allowance on blockers I talked to the endocrinologist about finding another alternative. He recommended a drug called Zoladex, subcutaneous injection rather than tablet form, saying that it was both more reasonable and more effective.

Having finally found someone to put the bloody thing in (slovak medical system ) Ive now stopped my androcur and am supposedly hormone free once more. Reading on the internet however it is supposed to cause an initial spike in hormone levels followed by supression. Seeing as I cut it pretty close puberty wise getting on blockers im a little worried by this information.

Basically I was wondering if anyone else here is on Zoladex implants and how they find it? That and whether they experienced this spike.

Yes Gwen i never used Zoladex but have done allot of research on different anti-androgen's, there is an initial spike of about 30 days i think, there are other meds that help block that spike, you take them till the Zoladex takes effect, talk to your doctor about it.

I haven't even heard of Zoladex... I am currently changing from spiro to androcur though and my doctor didn't even tell me to ramp down the spiro before switching to androcur :S This is important when changing meds.

I had to learn that myself, and she's the leading specialist in my city!!!

I don't know much about androcur and I was skeptical at first but now.... I don't care I just want those levels to drop.

dont know much about either of them androcur is banned in the USA by the FDA still not quiet clear on whyits been bannedread that it has some links to it developing some kinds of cancers or increasing your risk of them

have heard of zoladex but dont know any one that takes it like my self most every one i know thats on hrt takes spironolactone safe and cheap

From what I read,because it is a top AA outside the US.Is that in high doseages it can cause

liver or kidney damage.It is used in the penal system in europe and beyond, for suppressing

the sex drive of inmates incarcerated for sex crimes.

But to suppress a transsexuals T,it would take far less daily milligrams than the inmates are given.

Therefore with the proper bloodwork and monitored doseage,it would be a highly effective anti- androgen,if the FDA would allow it and the price wasn't so prohibitive to the average woman.

This was rather interesting as I have not heard of Zoladex. Appearently it's main use is to treat hormone fed cancers such as breast & prostate. It acually inhibits the production of both E & T. It is not a receptor blocker so I can see the benefits. I find it odd that I've never seen this drug mentioned for hrt as I believe it was USDA app in 89 so I'm both inerested & skeptical.
