He says that he specializes in LGBT issues. Which i know I have stated before is really nice because he is like a 5 minute walk from my dorm. But he also has said that he cannot legally prescribe HRT. Does this make him not a gender therapist or am I getting things confuzzlated here???

Janelle, he is absolutely correct. Most gender therapists are psychologists, not psychiatrists, who are M.D.'s

Your G.T.'s role is to make a judgment as to whether you are a suitable candidate for HRT. If he thinks you

are, he will write a recommendation letter that you take to your endocrinologist, who is of course an M.D.

The endo will do blood tests to determine the proper dosage and make sure there is no medical condition that

would preclude you from going on HRT. If everything checks out, he will prescribe the proper dosage and

combination of blockers and hormones.

Therapists cannot prescribe any kind of medication, including HRT. However, they can write letters to endos, family doctors, etc. that state that they think you are ready for HRT. This makes the doctors more likely to prescribe the hormones.

Oh ok.... Lucky me my college's health center (pretty sure) has endocronology too. We have x-rays free for students.
