Shaver Or Epilator?

Guest Zandra

Recommended Posts

Hello all. <3 Guess I should start off with a bit of history on my body hair removal experiences, before getting into my question. Most of my body actually takes fairly well to it; arms, chest, back, underarms, etc. are all fine. My legs and tummy, though... Regular shaving doesn't work... at all. I've tried numerous different methods and I still get those annoying razor bumps. While Nair, waxing, and whatnot whatnot yield better results; both are messy, the cost really adds up, and the non-wax methods don't keep me smooth enough to be worthwhile. I currently own a budget Norelco electric shaver that I use for my face and works well enough that I'm considering looking into electric options for my stubborn leg and tummy hair. Thanks to my new job, I have a few choices to pick from that come with the benefit of an employee discount. These two seem to be the best candidates, in my opinion, and was wondering which direction I should go here.

1) Remington BHT-600 Body and Back Groomer

This one is a body shaver designed for male hair, and claims to shave it smooth with no nicks. I've only been able to find 2 reviews for it online, though. One was a single 1-star rating on Amazon. The other was a link from the official Remington website to some blog, where the other pretty much copied the text from the box.

2) Remington EP-5000 Essentials Nanosilver Epilator & Shaver

I've been really wanting to try a modern epilator (the last one I used was ancient and not very good...) since my legs seem to take somewhat well to waxing. The alternate shaving head is nice, too, but probably not as effective as the one on the BHT-600. It has a 4-star rating on Amazon, but from only 5 reviews.

Anyway... I was hoping to see if anyone on the site has had any experience with either of these units and could shed some light on their effectiveness. Suggestions towards better units are also welcome. I'm really trying to make an informed decision with this, because I don't want any grief with it and would prefer not to add to the awkwardness I'm gonna go through in just buying it, (new job and all) lol.. Thanks in advance for any advice! :D

Hey Zandra

I have an Emjoi Optima Epilator from Drugstore.com.

I would suggest this, the twin epilator design doesn't pinch the skin like the singles do. It's also electric, I heard that the battery ones loose power when used alot. And also comes with a shaver attachment. I just love mine, no stubble.

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestion! That one looks a lot more promising than the two I was looking at. Now I finally have something worth blowing my new customer discount on Drugstore.com, lol. :D

My hair problem isn't too bad, I just wish my head hair grew out like a girl's would. I use just a normal electric razor for my face, and it has a little trimmer on the back for my private and leg areas.

OMG!

Are you all aware that an Epilator RIPS the hair out of you???????????

Like a vicious Pit Bull or a crazed chipmunk with a little bitty lawn mower????

Are you people getting enough oxygen????????

OH......MY......GOD!

Lol... x.x Yes, I'm fully aware. I guess it kinda symbolizes how I feel about my body hair; that I'd much rather have it ripped out of me than deal with it anymore. I've waxed and epilated before, so I know the feeling and am pretty used to it by now. Here's hoping it traumatizes the follicles enough to thin out the growth a bit, while I save up for a more permanent solution. :P

Are you suggesting that one of these two would be a cheaper solution to the epilator then? :P

All seriousness aside.....

When Lizzy ran that epilator over my arm it hurt like the dickens....I really don't see how one can use it on a regular basis, but Liz does....And others do....

Must be a strong need to rip hair or something that I don't understand....

With 9 months HRT my arm/ body hair has slowed to a crawl and it comes back slow/ silky/sparse...so, I'll just stick with shaving on ocassion!

HUGGS!

Ditto with my face Dee Jay, YMMV but I have gone from needing to shave twice a day to just a touch up before work or before going out. Its getting easier to hide under the concealer and when I do the complete foundation thing it virtually disappears. This is after 2.5 months on HRT, you think my body wanted to be female of sumptin

No HRT for me, just yet. :( So I'm stuck battling against the testosterone for now. My arms and chest are very easy to shave and deal with at least. It's my legs that I have to whip out the big guns for.

A bit late in updating, but I've had the draft of the official diagnosis and have (as yet unconfirmed) an endo consultation next month.   Next to arrive will be the supporting documentation for my new passport application for my correct gender.  This will then be my official ID for all the other updates - bank, tax, payroll etc.   It just feels good to to be proactive again rather than waiting for other people to move at a leisurely pace.

I like ELF brand cosmetics, I can pick them up at JC Penny.    I wear makeup everyday, but mostly just very light makeup.

Hi Mae Be, whenever it comes to makeup, there are so many different bands to choose from. Picking out the right makeup comes with trial and error, until you find one that works for you and blends well with your skin tone, some makeup products can leave the skin feeling oily. It's a good idea to look at the labels on the makeup product to know what the creators put in the makeup, just in case skin allergies. Once you found the makeup brand, you can add it to your shopping list, good luck

To be fair I’m pretty lost when it comes to makeup technique. I’ve watched videos, but I have no idea what works for or would help my features. So I just bungle along, hoping I don’t look terrible.
