I knew about the nicotine and the why of it(or rather I did and understood at the time, but forget now), but I didn't know about the others. Could you tell me why? Feel free to pm if you don't want to clutter up your thread, but It might be good for everyone to know who's planning for hrt.

Shi.......

Nicotine, because estrogen increases the chances for thrombosis (blood clots) and nicotine increases that risk!

Alcohol destroys Estrogen...wastes hormones.....

The Aspirin regime thins the blood to help prevent the blood clotting ...

And the fish oil...I don't know!....lol

I'm sorry, I should have given the reasons as I understand them. And I think it would be appropriate to include them in the thread.

I have only heard about avoiding alcohol, but don't know the reason. I'm thinking it goes along with the understood, eat right, exercise take care of yourself as your body is developing and growing during its second puberty.

Regimen aspirin and Omega-Three are for us older folk. They help prevent problems with blood clotting.

It's also be damaging to the liver, something that can also happen on certain HRT regimens.

You should also avoid banana's and other foods high in potassium, because some anti-androgens like spironoalctone are potassium-sparing diuretics and could cause a dangerous level of potassium in the body... Potassium; I said that way to many times.

Would it still be ok to have a glass of wine for dinner on occasion if you are on hrt?

That's a hard call.....

What is "Too much" what is "Just right"?

Hiya Blossom,

Ever tried tins of sardines in tomato sauce???? pound for pound one of the most nutritious foodstuffs in the oceans.

Now our little friends /the sardines are not the most "fashionable" foods on the planet but if you can stomach 2or3 tins a week you

are getting all the omega 3 you need. Spinach , good stuff re bone density. You know those bags of mixed nuts you can get at the

shopping malls ??fab food !!!. Pears are a natural detox / one a day and you can forget the expensive route, Beans ....unsociable yes

but your innards will thank you !!, Re alcohol....personally I am teatotal but a glass or two of red wine a day is good for your blood.

PS....if nature intended us folk to smoke evolution/God would have equipped us with chimney stacks :D , Live long and prosper,

Viv.

nicotine tends to be a vasoconstrictor, that means it shrinks your blood vessels.

Anyone can list dowe some of the common food that's pack high with pottassium that spiro users should avoid??

actually if you keep hydrated there is little need to worry. I have looked at the amount of potasium it would take to just make the daily allowance and with the std diet its nearly impossible to get there. I have been on it for 3 months as of the 12 and have not taken any special precautions. I drink between 60 and 80 oz of water daily (which does have its drawbacks on spiro) but I am sure keeps the postasium problem in check.

Oh this is good to know ^_^

I dont drink or smoke... but i know im gonna be on hormones about a week before my birthday when i turn 18 (legal drinking age in aus)

So now i know not to be silly and drink haha (not that i would anyway... i dont like alky-hol XD)

So... is Asprin perscription only or is it an over the counter sorta thing?

Lots of love

There are actually a lot of foods that suprisingly contain over a 600 rating of potasium levels, which is high, and surprisingly some of those are some citrus fruits and even avocado...so if your really worried about it avoid guacamole lol. I forget where I saw it but there are also web sites that have a list of foods that have potassium in them that you wouldn't know about and how much they have in them, and with alcohol, my doctor said as long as it isn't excessive, such as fall down drunk every day, you should be ok. I asked because I love an occasional beer with steaks or a couple glasses of moscatto after a long and rough pay period. But as most people have said already and others will say following me, if your really worried ask your doctor, it's what they get paid to do...I hope i didn't beat on an already dead horse, cuz its still more fun to poke them with a big ole stick lol.

As long as you're reasonably healthy to start with, there are really no dietary restrictions. Over-doing anything is what can be bad for you. For anyone who really wants to control a particular part of their diet, it's easy to find lists of foods with their values for potassium, phosphorus, sodium, etc. The one we use most at work comes from the Northwest Kidney Centers. Renal patients don't process a lot of different mineral well.

Anyway, the list work well for anyone trying to keep track of what's in their diet.

I understand that one should avoid grapefruit while on Estradiol (or whatever flavor of Estrogen you're indulging in). It's been a while since I heard that info but it was something about blocking estrogen or the estrogen bonding to the grapefruit.

Awesome and timely on the grapefruit. I love grapefruit and eat many while they are in season, looks like I'll have to cut way back...

http://www.webmd.com...Name=GRAPEFRUIT

To sum up the webmd abstract, grapefruit causes higher levels of serum estrogen(they do not break down what type.) They think it's linked to estrogen complications( like even more cancer risk, eww.) Causing higher serum levels sounds like it's blocking receptors, not binding and flushing estrogen out, regardless, I'm sure there are more details out there.

Well I have been absent recently due to my new hobby of computer gaming. I have worked on a collection of NES, SNES, N64, Sega and now revamping up my PlayStation 1 and 2 collection and then will get Xbox original. My computer isn't powerful enough to run Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games. It's fun to see the old games that I grew up with.

It's truly bizarre, the changes that have happened over the years. Larger houses on smaller blocks of land which means less trees because there's no room for them, so less shading and the resultant need to run air-con harder, which adds to suburban heat sink, which results in higher local ambient temperatures, which results in increased air-con use. Vicious circle.
    • Ivy
I don't have "air" here, so I pretty much live with what Mother Nature gives me.  Fortunately, there are trees in my yard which helps in the NC summer.  Windows and doors open all summer - closed up in winter. I do have fans, ceiling and windows. When you think about it, everyone used to live this way.

I cannot say that I have. As much as we hope that love, compassion, and therapy help, sometimes opening ourselves up to individuals who later to out to disingenuous, results in worsening of the original trauma. In addition, it may provide a secondary trauma. I have experienced this first hand, and it has left me hardened more than diamond or titanium. There is an emptiness that grabs you when you have been betrayed for innocently opening ourselves up, only to find someone who has went behind your back, and tried to destroy your life.    As for therapy, well, for some of us it works I suppose, until we either run out of money. Insurance is often not useful. There are many "counselors" who will not accept the insurance payments, but will willingly charge much more. When my counselor unilaterally decided to increase charges from 130/session to 180/session, I said enough is enough. I survive, sometimes despite myself. I have paid a fortune out of pocket for everything, and have no illusions about it. If I did not pay what I paid, I would not have received the services including the counseling. Transactional? Yes. I already knew I was transgender. That little gift will exist until my last heartbeat occurs. I will endure because I want to, and because my job/profession benefit others.    It was hard enough coming out later in life. I knew it would be hard. If I had a choice, would I choose to be transgender? No. If I had it to do over again, I would never tell a soul. I would take everything to the grave with me.

Good question, when it comes to love, the trauma from past makes it hard for me to know wither someone really loves me or not. My therapist suggested that I embrace my femininity more, due to my past trauma held me back from doing so and forgive those who mistreated me.

Hi MaeBe, good question about the T fighting back.. things to keep in mind for some of us who are on the E, levels may respond differently which requires a treating doctor to monitor both the T and E levels, there might be other test work to be done as well. I don't know what my T levels are, except I have a hormone imbalance. Oh yeah, I use the oral type of E not the shots, my treating doctor plans for me to use the patch form of E later on.

Good morning everyone,    Just when I think the crate and potty training is going well. Parker has decided that the laundry room is a good place to do his business. He rings the sleigh bells at the back door to go outside to potty, has not made the connection to needing to do his business. He is only 10 weeks old and still very much a young puppy.    On another note the rest of my world is going well, and off schedule. The only way I know what day of the week it is by looking at my phone. @Willowand @awkward-yet-sweet my wife and I keep our house on the cool side holding the thermostat on 69° F year round. We also have ceiling fans moving the air in each room. She even sleeps with an additional isolating fan in her bedroom. I think that one is more about white noise than cooling. I’m glad central Indiana is in a moderate temperature zone allowing us to experience distinctly different seasons.    Hug,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well I've been surviving at least that is something. Heading to visit the oldest and family tonight. Haven't seen them since before xmas. I just wish they would come visit us. None of them have seen the inside of the new house. We are going on 2 yrs. I know it is an embarrassment for my son to come visit his parents. Until they moved back to WY our 4 yr old granddaughter has never stepped foot into WY.   Since the wife left early for work. The puppy thinks he needs up early too, so up about half hour earlier than normal. Which maybe good as I (and maybe our youngest) am heading to a cars and coffee in Cheyenne this am. Even taking the wagon, which I was able to get the transmission fluid changed yesterday. god what a PITA that was.   Well off to see the wizard shortly. TOTO, where did I leave my gingham dress?   Hugs, Kymmie

Good morning    @awkward-yet-sweet you’d be plenty warm at my den. Wife keeps the temp between 76 and 78.  If I turn on a ceiling fan I get “do you need that fan on?”  I sleep best in a cool room snuggled up.   have a great day. Hot here!  Oh I went all the way in the pool yesterday it was nice.   Willow
