Yes, Dr. Marci Bowers is amazing and her story is only one of many doctors that have transitioned.

She is one of only two that I know of that are doing SRS for others and the AMA doesn't recognize the other because Dr. Christine McGinn is an Osteopathic Doctor.

Amazing that they are so open and honest - it is refreshing!

Love ya,

Sally

Thought you would like to know

Hiya Brenda,

Just read that article on Dr. Bowers. Also seen a couple of documentaries on her life . I believe she is a wonderful person,

yes I mean person, a person first a trans woman second. I have listened to her comments in general re every day life and she

seems to be a cool and happy person, ya know,,,happy and comfortable in her skin. That link also accommodates comments from

folk and some of those comments are a little "strange" to say the least ,huh ???, I dont want to seem unfair but with little or no

prompting it can be easy to see those unfortunate folk with real life problems, dont you think??, time to be grateful we are **only**

trans . Ive been up all night re another post and falling asleep now so will say good morning/night , dont know your zone Brenda.

Anyway ...talk to you again soon I hope, rock on sis , Luv, Viv. :)

Gee, thanks, Brenda!

That was a great piece on Dr. Bowers. And what struck me the most was the complete honesty that she answered with. It just shows that social, income or intelligence .....Trans crosses all lines and how very difficult our lives and the lives of those around us can be!

Dr. Bowers would of been my choice for SRS, but with economics as they are, my surgery letter is already on file with Dr. Precha In Thailand....It's only 2/3 the cost of SRS in the states and it's state of the art.

Dr. Bowers is truly a pioneer in more ways than one.

A Little Tid-bit of Trivia..... The Queen's Mother (England) was helped to the ripe old age of 101 by a Transgender Surgeon who Transitioned Between her Two replacement Hip operations.... Did one as a Man.... And the second one as a Woman........ I don't know your Marci Bowers.... I seen a Doctor Herbert Bowers a couple of times in Melbourne.... He was a Shrink not a surgeon.. .... Will now return you to normal transmission... Sorry to go off topic...

Dr. Bowers is one of many transgendered physicians in all of medicine it is the field of transsexual surgeries that she is alone.

Anyone who has ever contacted her office and gotten to a point of receiving any correspondence from Dr. Bowers herself is then instructed to call her Marci.

When she calls patients to confirm their surgery date - yes she tries to do that herself whenever she is not at a speaking engagement - she just says. "Hello, patient's first name, this is Marci."

She is one of us and never wants anyone to feel uncomfortable, she becomes your friend so quickly - I understand that several of the Doctors in Thailand take the same approach and I have seen countless pictures from post-ops who have pictures taken in the hospital with their surgeons and staff.

It is a little thing but it means so much to us and the fact that Marci and other surgeons acknowledge this is a huge boost to our morale.

So here is to Dr. Marci Bowers and all of the wonderful men and women who work in this highly specialized and somewhat controversial field, where would our dreams go if not for them.

Love ya,

Sally

Sally,

Those surgeons in Thailand are Special.... I have Trolled all their websites and the testimonials from past patients seem to all recommend them for sainthood....Their main motivation doesn't appear to be the $$$$$... The Hospitals are World class... And Patients are treated like VIPs from the moment the jet touches down and you are picked up from the airport in a Limo... they provide an interpreter and accommodation for a companion... Prices quoted include everything... they are currently quoting $6,500 US ... which includes up to three weeks... That and Air fares ....Thailand is looking good for me.... IF I ever get that far... that is where I wanna take the final step...

Tiff,

The Hospital and medical prices in the US are well out of hand and as a result they are forcing a lot of people to make their choice based on price alone.

Do your research and you will find several Thai doctors that are World Class and advancing the procedures as well, they may not be the cheapest in Thailand but they will be far less than those in the US and they care about their patients it is a long trip and the Passport issue has me concerned - I liked Thailand when I visited there but I don't think that I would like to stay there because I couldn't board a plane due to my male Passport!

Research your Doctor, clinic or hospital and talk to previous patients - then make an informed decision, this one is important and needs ot be right.

I would love to go to Marci and I have even talked to her early on about the procedures - she is amazing but I have to look at reality and saving up enough to fly to Thailand and have one of the premier surgeons there do the surgery is probably the way that I will have to go too - I don't like to fly that far (I don't fit well into airplanes - too tall and at present too wide - that has to change before the surgery) but I don't want to wait long enough to save double the price.

Sally

I seen one of your Posts where you mentioned you were on the "Cuddly' Side of Petite.... ME TOO.... Think HRT and the Orchiectomy in my case has added to my Waistline... Either way... Once I get the Cash together.... the motivation to lose weight will become Urgent..... Thailand is a LOT Closer to Australia than the States.... The Distance to travel is not my Concern.... AND as An Aussie.... I can get a Passport with my New Name on it and a Current Picture....AND Bugger it... If they Kick up a stink at the Airport..... You Just tell the illegitimate children the truth.... Stare em right in the eye and tell em you are there for Ground Floor renovations.... I Have flown Domestically in Australia Dozens of times Since transition.... AND NEVER once given a Funny look or any comments when booking in for a Flight Dressed Femme....Seriously.....Is there a Transsexual Taliban I haven't heard about..... I can understand the security at airports.... AND am happy to go through all the screening knowing that every other bugga on the plane has done the same....

Back to the surgery.... I have Doctor shopped the entire Planet... Thailand would be my Choice If I was LOADED with Cash.... Maybe it is Buddhism and the locals there with their attitude to the 'third' Gender.... I believe you have to have total Faith in the surgeon....They get one crack at it.... you do hear about Stuff ups but they are rare.

Buying GRS Surgery is like Buying oats.... If you want the Good gear you pay the going rate... IF you are Happy with the oats that have already been through a HORSE, they come a lot cheaper.

Viv,

I no longer chase the almighty Dollar.... Many people never learn the meaning of life.... In the 80s I was a Millionaire.... I was SO Bloody Busy maintaining the Income to support the lifestyle I lost at least a decade of my life.... I had all the 'BOY TOYS'... the Cabin Cruiser and jet Skis and Motor Cycles and sports cars and a Massive Home with three Bathrooms and a Spa Pool and all the trappings of Success.... Guess what.... I never achieved the level of fulfillment I have now.. I am Currently on a Government Pension..... I live in Government Housing... ( really nice home with all mod cons but not luxurious)....IF I could find a JOB where I could make a positive contribution to other people's lives... I would work for nothing... I am planning a return to College to take on Information Technology and Digital photography Early next year.... That will take me to 6 out of ten years at school... Fortunately the Tasmanian State Government Makes Mature Age Students very welcome at all of their schools...

Dr. Bowers has been referred to as an Artist by many of the other gynecologists that treat her post-op patients.

One of my very first T-girl friends (I won't tell you her name because she no longer considers herself to be anything but a woman and I promised to treat her as such) told me when I asked her about Dr. Bowers she told me about how nice she was and that after she had moved to a new city she went to a gynecologist and debated about saying anything until asked.

She decided to mention it after the examination and the doctor decided to take another look and told her that she would never have know without being told!

That is really great work!

Just thought that I would sare that.

Sally

That is a true combo of art and science....to reproduce such a delicate and sensitive structure and for a trained gyno not to know is beyond understanding to this mere mortal..

Many post op women wish for better than what they have and to hear this story gives us all hope for those that seek the ultimate treasure of womanhood....

Congratulations on getting the go ahead with HRT. I'm so ready for my wife to drop her opposition. As for the mood swings... I would look forward to them myself.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Three reprimands and they suspend attendance for a couple weeks.

Good for the other participant. What's involved in a reprimand? At our age, what are they going to do? Withhold snacks...   @BirdieI'm sorry you have to put up with such discrimination's. I'm proud that you're standing up for yourself.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Associating LGBTQIA+ with pedophilia or "grooming" is a conspiracy theory as old as the study of psychiatry (mid-19th century) when early "scientists" theorized that homosexuality was caused by childhood trauma of having been molested by older men. Some of us have moved on and become educated since those days, but conspiracy theories have an uncanny staying power...the "power" of ignorance, including the titillation of scandal. There is some psychology about people being attracted to outrage and fear. Life is naturally dynamic and uncertain. Unless you have developed a transcendent mastermind, most people have some level of discomfort with that. Therefore, it is weirdly comforting to target a particular thing as a threat and to make a big fuss about it, whether or not it has any credence. And it is comforting to be one among a mass who are equally outraged about a thing, whether or not the thing is real. It is also boosts the ego to speak with vehement "authority" about a thing that is a known trigger for the masses. Like Vicky said, Dunning-Kruger Effect.   However prominent a movement there is or not of pedophiles claiming that their perversion is a sexuality (I have heard of that, but never as it being a major influence), it is the case that much of the viral spread of disinformation associating LBGTQIA+ with pedophilia is due to online trolls. Surely, there are loads of 'em. But here's just one reported story. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/posing-gay-men-twitter-troll-goes-viral-attempts-falsely-tie-n954721

Another interesting day at the day-centre....   Another participant called me "sweet cheeks" and we both got reprimanded for inappropriate behavior. 🙄

She stood at the world's edge, awaiting judgment Isolation judged to be an insufficient burden The skies above required a hand, precisely two To keep the heavens high and keep the vaulted sky from crushing you She bent her knee and gritted teeth, awaiting weight Mentally preparing mind and body for the grimmest fate. Her head was bent, the firmament so hard to hold, Her back against the wall and braced against a fall And all that matters is she never ever drop it There she stands.  If they weren't full, her head would be in her hands. Heroes they came, from far and from wide to gawk at the girl who held up the sky.

Lets get this topic back on track folks.  Please spell out your acronyms for your specific meaning of the letter combinations and then re-read your own typing before hitting the send button.  We are here to be supporting each other and not stomping on someone's last nerve.  In the past we have used our DWF (Dirty Word Filter) to interpret certain acronyms and then the members were begging us to delete the posts for them one or two leaving with injured feelings.  Community Rules 7 (about posts being in clear English and Rule 8 (being suitable for people under 18) can come into play here. I could be described, I suppose, as a RWNJ.   A little stereotyping seems to be going on.  Don't complain about Trans stereotypes if you turn around and stereotype others.  A lot of RWNJs are actually decent people and get called that by people who pick up on one or two alleged beliefs.  I would rather single out influential individuals of whatever camp and call them to correction.   Trans folk are a small minority, even as small minorities go.  There are probably a lot more RWNJs running around than there are trans folk.

They cut a lot of trees here as well.  A lot of them toward the coast end up chipped up and sent to Europe to burn in power plants.  That bothers me, seems like a dumb idea.
    • Ivy
Most likely.   Unfortunately this was expected.  I expect it will be the norm in any GOP controlled state that hasn't already done it.  So much effort expended against so few.  I certainly haven't seen my area being overrun by trans kids.   And yeah, I fully expect them to go after my HRT next. I think those that are railing against us are much more dangerous than some non-binary high school sophomore.
