My wife, son and I have been invited to go on the Steve Wilco show. I'm really not sure about it, especially since I don't know anything about it. They don't seem to know anything about transgenderism. They also want to have my totally homophobic 'adult' son on it.

Anyone know anything?

I would be scared to go onto the Steve Wilco Show, most of his guest are pedophiles who have abused children, or a parent that has caused harm to their child. Does your son know about your trans-status. If that is the case watch out for an attack. Wilkos is a former Chicago police officer who worked security on the Jerry Springer show. If I were you I would goggle it and see if you can find shows online. I think you can find episodes on www.hulu.com I hope this helps but no one goes on that show unless the have a vendetta against another.

I've watched the show a few times, but I cringe at how intimidating and hostile Wilco gets. So I don't watch it anymore. He is bound to get in someones face and probably throw a chair at the wall. He's not the nice guy he was from Springer.

Anne, in view of what the others have said and what I've seen on the internet, I think I would pass. These types of shows don't do anything for educational purposes. They are solely for sensationalism and exploitation.

I would pass too, but I would like to know why you have been invited to be on it. I've only seen the show a few times, but each episode was about violence and drug abuse.

My adult son knows about my wife transitioning. (She's MTF.) He caused a great deal of trouble and made some accusations which ended up with my 13 year old son (FTM) having to testify in court. I suspect that is how we came to the attention of the show. As far as I know my 'adult' son, does not know about his little sister becoming his little brother.

The person I spoke to sounds as if he is interested in my young son doing a sort of video diary over the course of several months and then having him back on the show. My young son would very much like to confront his brother because of some of the crap the older one caused. I found his official website. Now I'm off to see if I can find some actual episodes. BTW, only one person I work with knows about my wife and son being transgendered. Add to that the fact that I am having to take some time off for surgery and....

I just talked to this guy today and he's talking about flying us to Chicago early next week. Eeek! The feedback of people here is exactly why I posted this.

Steve is a bully and an intimidating figure that is why Springer brought him on because he could allow a fight to break out, look really good on camera and yet have it under control the whole time.

He is after sensationalism and has no desire what so ever to bring any form of enlightenment to anyone - he is at his best social conscience when he sends teen drug abusers to boot camp and that is as nice as he gets.

He gets within inches of your face and yells at you and hopes that someone will throw a chair or at least a punch or two.

I would tell them that you are not interested and that you do not feel that it is in your child's best interest at this time.

Love ya,

Sally

It's seldom to never anything uplifting on those shows, and that's bein' quite nice about it.

It's most often a drama-fortified, attention-sleeper circus from which the guest leave thinkin' they should have their heads examined for agreeing to appear.

The consensus is that it's ill-advised, Chief.

I've seen his show. Steve's intense! He doesn't beat around the bush. He doesn't play games. He really gets in the face of guests on his show that have molested children, or abused women, or wronged people in some form. It's his tactic of being very confrontation in an effort to get people to see the errors of their ways and change their bad behavior. When he's up on stage standing practically nose to nose with a guy who's not ashamed to admit that he beats his wife, you can almost cut the tension with a knife it's so thick.

Another thing, is that since your son is 13, child welfare might become involved in this matter-saying that you're not fit parents. WE know that you are fit parents ,but other folks will probably react differently.

Take care and run from it..........[ the show that is].

Anyushka I would be very leary about going on that show. What little I have seen of it hasn't impressed me, Steve Wilco has always seemed to me to be anything but impartial or trying to actually educate people. As was said he is all about sensationalism (what can you expect he learned on the Jerry Springer show). I think it would be best for you, your wife, and your 13 year-old son that you not go on the show. I know from what I saw of Mr. Wilco on the Springer show when he would stand in for Springer, he wasn't friendly or understanding toward ones in our community (yes I know most of the ones on there were full of it but still). I can understand your son wanting to confront your older son about things he has done and caused but that show is not the place for it. Just my opinion.

The producers probably want to see confrontation between your adult son and the rest of you concerning whatever it is he did to cause your other son to have testify. It probably would not go well for anyone in your family to be there. I think you should say no. The show is not out for your best interests, they are out for sensationalism.

I'm afraid that I have to throw in with the general consensus here..

It does not sound like it would be a good experience by any measure...For anyone...

I'd avoid it...

Well,

If you were looking for a consensous, I think you have found it. My son & Wife were on the View a few years ago. They each got to speak for about three minutes and Rosie O'Donnell was some what difficult to work with and this was a puff piece. I would not take my child on a show like Wilco'c no matter how much money that were going to throw at me.

Well honey I would definately have to agree with the rest of the family, steer clear of him. He's looking for the worst in everyone.

Though personally I think it's all staged, I would be busting my hand on his jaw if he got that close to me with such anger and I know plenty of people that would do the same. I can't possibly see how he can do every show without a black eye or bruises.

If you would like to go on a show perhaps try Tyra, she's a bit naive about transgenderism but freindly and willing to learn.

hi vidanjali !! i know exactly what you mean, i do have a few trans and otherwise queer friends nearby me but currently i present as 'cis' for obvious reasons so it's not all that easy for me to reach out and find that kind of community (though i do love my irls!!)   but yeah, i get this weird paranoia that if i come out to too many people it'll end up tracing back to my folks (not everyone knows my family is homophobic and being outed is a big fear of mine)   but im sooo happy to know that that feeling was just dysphoria !! i thought i was going crazy for a minute !!.   thanks so much for welcoming me, and you have a great day too !!

hi susan!! thats very much how i feel !! i have no issue explaining my gender or educating other people on transness but it feels like im talking to a brick wall of misinformation even if they are well-meaning and accepting people ! but thank you anyways for welcoming me here !!

This is a fairly long video by Philosophy Tube,  (Abigail Thorne)  Discussing some of Judith Buttler's work and related stuff.   I wasn't sure where to post it, so if there is a better place, move it.

I have a fantastic therapist. She is so caring she has helped me open up so much. Unfortunately, She is ending her internship. Do to a hiring freeze at the VA she isn't going just go right into a position there.  My Endo is out of the Denver VA hospital. I haven't talked with her in probably 2 yrs. I am  looking to transfer providers and get back to seeing a GYN at the Cheyenne VA.

Shopping at the mall today and helping out at Torrid I excused myself to the restroom. The manager told me the restroom at JC Penny was much closer (I normally use the family restroom in the food court).   Upon arrival I discovered that JC Penny doesn't have a family restroom, it's either or.   The men's room was occupied with customers, and me going in with large breasts, long hair, and makeup was going to cause a stir, so I opted for the woman's room instead. I was the only one in the woman's room.    Texas state law does state that your must use the restroom that matches your chromosomes, and it's a misdemeanor to not do so, but it seemed to be the best choice (I really needed to go!)

I had some guy grab my butt on the ship.  I don't know how "real" it was, but I did not enjoy that at all.  Also did not enjoy the hazing I saw other people going through.  One person can only do so much to stop that when there are 10 people doing it.

I pulled this out of a stack of old military mementos yesterday.  I guess I didn't realize how cool this one was because I did so much of this kind of thing back then.

This internet video thing is pretty amazing.  I'd call it Zoom, but there are other platforms out there.  I prefer Zoom over Teams because Zoom puts me and everyone else in the same picture.  I like seeing the whole group in one shot.  Teams of course is about having so many people that you can't get them in the shot, or is it?   Just saying that I have never met any of my counselors in person.  Doctors, of course I have and I am lucky there.  They are 3.5 miles from my house as is the main transgender surgery place in town.  I've been doing virtual visits with the medical doctors lately though.  It feels like once I became steady state, they don't need to interact with me physically that much.  I have enjoyed going into their office in my nice clothing.
