Hair Style Advice For Thinning Hair

Please does anyone have any advice about hair? I'm blonde and so my hair is fine already, but it's thinner that I'd like on top due to DHT's effects. There are not bald patches. it's going a little bit at the corners at the front and a little at the crown, but mainly it's just more sparse all over the top of my head compared with the sides (fewer hairs per square inch, and the hairs are finer) . It really upsets me and makes me feel ugly. I'm hoping finasteride will help and I'll ask the doc about it next week, but do you have any other advice or help?

I also need a girl's hair style. My hair has lots of loose curls and is short for a girl (each hair about 5 inches long) but I'm growing it. Sadly I had longer hair before but my parents convinced me to have it cut. My hair would be lovely if it wasn't for the thinness, but it's that thinness restricts the hairstyles I could have, I think, and it doesn't look any better (in terms of thickness) as it gets longer. It really gets me down. :( Does anyone have any advice?

I have a high hairline and a dramatic widows peak. I do a comb over from the temple area over to one side and then go a little further on the other side and part it to the other side. It makes like an X on the top of my head. It is about the best I can do since my hair in the center of my forehead is too fine and only about an inch and a half strip. I can't part it to both sides and the widows peak goes so far back, I cant pull the hair on top of my head forward.

Anyway, this works for me halfway decent and doesn't scream comb over. Your problem is different but try parting it some different ways and use bobby pins to keep it on place.

You might also check out a wig-shop. If you go to big city to areas with a large African-American demographic, you can find discount wig-shops. You can also find some online.

The third thing I do is wear a do-rag. Which method I use depends on my outfit.

hugz,

Chrissy

Hi There,

I am Angie and I once had very thin hair.Yessa Ma'am finasteride will do the trick quite nicely,

as you see it get thicker and thicker.(whew and thank you right?)I would try different hair styling

products to lift the hair and make it look fuller. Meaning, hair spray with firm hold,or a sculpting

mousse will do the trick very nicely.Do Not part in the middle.Instead, cut yourself some bangs,

and go with a more poofy do.You comb it all forward with a blow drier to add fullness, then flip

your hair backward. You will see how much height it adds, now it is just playing with it until you

find a style that says, this is you.A note:Once a style is in place,You Own It and do not touch your

hair with hand, brush,or comb, that way it stays like you styled it.Hope this helps some.

Big Hugs,

Angie

Hey, Angie....

What can you tell us about finasteride?

What I mean is...When did you start it?

What is it prescribed for? And is the hair growing a side effect or it's main purpose?

How long did/do you take it?

I really would like to know more about this....OK?

Thanks...and a warm HUGGG!

Finasteride,Propeccia,Proscar are all the same product under different names.

It is used by genetic males to fight male pattern baldness. But for women like us,

it is our DHT blocker, that allows a more complete feminizing effect during transition.

It has the added benefit of reigniting hair regrowth. And honestly, you take it for your

full transition. It is what has allowed the magic to do it's thing so completely,to take me

from that manly man,and help turn me into a feminine woman. The regrowth is slow and

steady, just like everything else in our journey of becoming our true selves.

Warm Hugs Back Attcha Sweety,

Angie

Thanks for the replies and advice. I'll try parting it different ways again and I'm glad that your finasteride experience is so positive, it gives me hope! :)

I'm not really sure - but when I saw this I was reminded of a cartoon character I saw from Avatar the Last Air Bender - Katara. I can't describe her hair style well so here's a pic - http://www.leukvoorkids.nl/img/wallpapers/avatar-katara.jpg

The concept of taking the hair that's long in the back and attaching it to the bangs - perhaps on a larger scale than what she has in the pic perhaps could be used for transwomen with thinning hair lines in the corners? :) I dunno, just a thought.

Hi, Amanda.  Your story sounds quite familiar, though my pesky body part didn't need the attention of a urologist.  You are in good company here!

Oops.  Sorry, @AmandaJoy, I see you have already posted an introduction.

Hi, @AmandaJoy.  Welcome to Trans Pulse.  Be sure to check out the various forums and join in any threads that interest you.  We'd love to read all about you in the Introductions forum.   -----   I started programming in Dartmouth Basic in high school back in the early 1970s.  I did my degree in Computer Science.  After a brief stint in the "government flying club" (RCAF), I worked as a programmer-analyst and systems analyst for about 25 years.    I am retired now, but I still enjoy programming.  I write a lot of the code for my astrophotography observatory.

WOW HAS IT BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE UPDATED!!! Welp, I'm updating now, and it's been a lot of changes.  1. My mom is starting to come around a little (I think). She does refer to me more as her child now, and even offered to help me cut my hair so I think we're making a little progress. I'm still planning on going on T later and I'm gonna start saving up to buy trans tape (I can't wear binders because I have GERD), so hopefully the progress stays. My dad, sibling, friends, and my paternal grandparents have all been super supportive and I'm really lucky for that. My sibling also goes out of their way to introduce me as their brother and it makes me so happy :D 2. I've been socializing a lot more! Mostly on Discord, but I've made some new friends and I'm really happy about that!  3. I'm on birth control! I still need to go to the gyno but my GP got me on the depo shot and it's been working for me so far! My dysphoria has gone through a lot of ups and downs, especially around periods, but that source is pretty much gone now and I feel way better. I do have more dysphoria centered around my chest now but that's pretty easily fixed with baggy shirts most of the time.  4. I know 100% now that I'm hoping for a uterine ablation (cauterizing the uterine tissue so it doesn't grow) at some point in the future and it's likely something I'll have to save up for but from my research it's a lot less invasive and safer than a hysterectomy so I definitely recommend it if people are able to access it. I also know that after that, I want to save up for a reduction to combat the chest dysphoria, and I still like having it sometimes so I'll keep a bit of it (I'm shooting for an A cup, I'm a C cup currently).  5. I've been writing more and I've even got some ideas for art projects! I also got an Archive of Our Own account where I post my finished writing, and I'm starting a book project at my mom's urging (she said she wanted that as her Christmas present so I'm gonna try, might not get it done this year though). I haven't gotten to write much lately but I'm hoping to change that this month.  And finally, 6. I'm gonna be a college junior and I have a career path to pursue! I'm gonna be an archivist, hopefully working for a museum (not too specific on where, I just like museums).  So yeah, a lot of stuff has happened and it's been pretty good!

Around here, a culturally-appropriate gender-neutral form of address is either "dear" or "hun".  It tends to be mostly women who use those, though I did have a man address me as "dear" in a store today.    It could be startling for a come-ffrom-away to hear themselves being addressed that way, but, locally, it is considered a friendly, not particularly creepy, gender-neutral way to address someone.
