Hi everybody, I am new here.

I read a lot about hormones and everything and I want to ask people who actualy had them for a relatively long period of time about something. I read some transsexual women experienced an up to an inch or two of height loss due to loss of muscle mass. Could this really happen? Did any of you experienced something like this?? Thanks a lot!

Hello Miss Egypt,

My name is Angie, and yes ma'am,I have lost an inch in height in the thirty months of transition.

I wondered if I had because I read something about this maybe happening. So when I went to my

docs this last visit,I had her measure me bare footed.I am now 5"4" when I started out at 5"5".

Welcome to Laura's Playground my sister.

The only reason I can think of that this might happen is muscle loss around the spine. Your height is determined by your skeletal frame, but if you were to lose muscle mass around your spine it might increase the curvature while standing, resulting in a small height loss.

Hi Miss Egypt,

Welcome to our Garden , hope you enjoy your time with us. Re height , I read somewhere , it may have been on the med. advise

pages on this sight that, the difference between the skeletal height in men and women is not much. Estrogen will get rid of a lot of muscle mass

associated with males which will make a trans woman smaller . Hope this is of help, Luv, Viv. :)

I asked because I did some back exercises when I was 19-20 and it did increase my height by about an inch maybe, I am now 22 will hormones after say, 2 years, cause some decrease in my height? I am currently about 5'9"

I don't speak from experience, but from what I'm told by my GT there should be a noticeable decrease in muscle during the first year.

What I think happened in my case was that with your full body, including your feet, become totally

femininized. So that the padding I once had on the souls of my feet, melted down like all the muscles do.Your skeleton will not change.Since you are so young, all you will do is get slimmer, much more

feminine looking, but I do not think your height will be affected. And sis,5'9" is not all that tall.

Big Hugs,

Angie

PS

Yes I do know another woman that also lost an inch in transition

Thats strange I never would have guessed height loss would have been possible. I mean I know people tend to shrink a little as they get older from the compression of the spine over time but I wouldn't have thought hormones would have that kind of effect. Thats cool. :D I'm 5'7" barefoot so if I shrunk and inch to 5'6" I'd be happy. Honestly though I don't know that I would want to be any shorter. I like being able to reach the top shelf and as it is I can only just reach it already. I don't want to have to stand on a chair or go ask someone to get something for me.

I had no idea about that either. I'm already kinda short, but it doesn't sound bad at all. As long as I don't have to use step ladders around the house.

I'd like to lose 4 inches, but that's never gonna happen :P

Oh well, I'm not particularly tall for a woman anyway. 5'8"

Well I would love to be on the shorter side :) if I became 5'8'' or even 5'7" I would be very very happy!

Well, I'm on the high end of 5'7" and when I was a lot younger I stood at 5'9"...

So, I've lost some height along the way...

But, of course, I'm almost 60 years old at that could have something to do with it...

I hadn't measured myself in years and when I first visited my gender doctor and got weighed and measured, I was kinda taken aback bu having lost a full inch...

Something happened somewhere!

Of course the answer to the problem is just to hang around with tall people...I hang with Sally and Lizzy...they are both over 6'2" and pass 100%

So, don't get too hung up on height........OK?

Good!

LOVE & HUGGS!

I really don't understand how losing muscle would make someone shorter. They will LOOK to be smaller, but height is determined by skeletal mass and stilettos (haha, i amuse myself...), but science works in crazy ways. If anything I wouldn't expect anyone to shrink more than an inch.

I don't want to shrink at all! I love being 6'1", and want to attempt a small career in runway modeling. Shoe size, on the other hand, sign me up for shrinkage!

I didn't think this was possible. I thought height was dependent on bones and cartilage. I just assumed that I'm still 5' 8", but now I am tempted to measure. An inch wouldn't make a difference anyway, and I kind of like being sort of tall as there are so many other tall women in this area (those Dutch folk!).

Guest i is Sam :-)

it sure would be nice to loose an inch or two, i'm 5'10", so i'm never gonna be petite. tho a girl can dream. i'd love to drop a shoe size too, again i don't have massive feet, but most of the really pretty shoes are too small, i'm a UK 8 in a mens style but my feet are too wide to fit comfortably into a womens 8, apparently they ought to get a little narrower tho, just a smidge, which might be enough.

Better than being a women's 14, Sam. It's always about making the best with what you've got.

I'm shorter than I was, but I put that down to gravity.. my feet are 2 sizes smaller in womens than they were in mens.. that's a drastic reduction over 9+ years taking hormones.

I'm about the same hight as my mom, about 6' with small feet I want to keep it that way! lol

But it is interesting to see how many ways hormones can change your body!

At 5'3.5", I'm right about where I want to be. I wouldn't mind stopping at 5'4". I doubt I'll "shrink" in height, since I'm only 16 now. I'll probably stop growing at 5'4"-5'5", once on hormones. My boyfriend is like 6'2", so we joke I'm going to need a step-ladder to kiss him.

I have age onset degenerative scoliosis so I watch my height like a hawk. I used to be 6’ 1” when I was younger (am 49 now) but lost about 2 inches because of my medical condition between 2005 and 2010. Seven months on HRT and I lost another full inch to 5’10+”. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t kept such accurate records for myself.

So, I am curious. Is the Governor going to mandate vaginal or penile recognition photos before one enters the restroom? Considering the Governor has no balls to do the right thing, will he have to pee against a tree outside? Inquiring minds would like to know. I love it when the job recruiters contact me about the wonderful jobs available in Oklahoma. It is so much fun telling them there is no way I will ever go to Oklahoma. When there are no workers, then they can shutter the place.

Thank you! I'm out of coffee so I have been drinking hot tea instead. Looking forward to the 1st. It's crazy that we are almost in May. This year has flown by really quick! Good to hear that y'all got to sleep in. Hope you have a good weekend too!

It's nice to care about others but you need to live your life as you please. No one be your only source of happiness. Love yourself and don't look back. I lost over 40 family members it hurts but apparently, they didn't truly love me. True love will always be there through the thick and thin. I can honestly say that HRT has made me think in ways that I never thought I would. I get myself some shoes or clothes every month because retail therapy not only helps but it is a reward to myself to show love. I have over 100 dresses. I have a whole walk-in-closet full of clothes and 67 pairs of shoes. I love who I am. I was born in 84 so not all people in the 80's think that way. As far as the name just take your time and be happy with it. I knew I loved the name Ashley. Take care and welcome!

WOW @Ashley0616 it’s good that you have skills to treat traumatic injuries, as well as the ability to remain calm while managing others needs to get yourself and the boys ready to go to the hospital. Proud mama bear skills. I’m glad that he’s doing well.    Meanwhile back at the ranch, we slept in and I’m just now finishing my 3rd cup of coffee.    Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Well yesterday was not fun. I was getting ready to make dinner and I hear screaming and crying. I look over and my son put his foot through glass. He gashed near his Achilles tendon. Thankfully that is intact. I didn't freeze for a second. All of my military training came into play. I doctored him up and got Jett ready and myself and we headed to the ER. He is doing ok today. He says he is in pain but doesn't need Tylenol. He is a tough cookie!

Hi,   It's seems today is my trans birthday.  I'm beyond excited. Just picked up my testogel from the pharmacy. Although I naturally have doubts as I'm sure do we all, they are rapidly disappearing. Yesterday I was so nervous I kept claiming I'm not trans, despite grinning like a fool knowing I can pick up my prescription the next day. I'm shaking and on the verge of happy tears. I will put on my first sachet this eve. Thanks so much to this forum and kind words from people. This is the first forum I found when I began seriously questioning.

While the Soviet Union did not end up being the source of all evil, I believe that history has shown that Joe McCarthy generally was right. There ARE all kinds of Marxists slithering around. And if that had been dealt with firmly 75 years ago (or more) the nation wouldn't be in the shape that it's in now.    And while I generally oppose the idea of intervening in foreign affairs, the world probably would have been better off if we had taken care of issues in Russia and defeated the Bolshevik Menace back in 1919. God bless the memory of Admiral Kolchak.   Getting back to project 2025, my belief is that Republican efforts are inappropriately focused on trans folks. A minority of a minority does not wreck a nation. But it is easier to focus on trans folks because they can look like they're doing something. They don't have to address the real problems, and really they don't want to address them because they would have to address themselves.  They would also need to admit that the 50 State version of the USA cannot be saved.
