which some may consider "men flics" , giving up watching certain sports like soccer. Does anyone think this is going

too far , she has suggested to me in an offhanded way I should follow suit,,,,,,,dunno  , I like to watch

Yes, I do.......

I feel that if your intrests change...well, so be it!

But to just trade in the things that you like to fit a sterotype is not cool, in my book!

I have a motorcycle....like it...

I like aviation...I've flown thousands of hours...LOVE IT!

On my profile page I say "Even girls can be great pilots..."

No, I feel she is wrong, why give up your passions, for knitting if you don't like knitting?

That's a wrong thought process.....

By that logic, I need to get divorced from my wife of 30 years because women aren't married to women....

Yeah, some girls leave behind some of the old things and maybe it was only there to reinforce the "male " sterotype in the first place...

But I don't feel that any of us gender gifted folks should base our hobbies, etc... on a sterotype!

My opinion...ok, Sweetie?

I couldn't agree with Donna Jean more.

Think about it, why are you transitioning to become a stereotype or to become yourself and shed that stereotype that you have been living?

Lose anything that you didn't like and just did to seem male and hold on to those that you enjoyed.

I love football and basketball and I still watch a lot of girls I know love sports - besides, I live in Texas - gotten a good look at Tony Romo?

Be yourself, if you love soccer and moto gp - then you go girl!

Love ya,

Sally

Viv hon,

There is no compelling reason why you need to change doing the things you have always liked to do. Your friend is obviously throwing away everything that is a reminder of what she does not identify with anymore. Well, if that is good for her, more power to her. What is right for her is not necessarily right for you. Everyone is different. I know some biological women who love to watch football games. Does that make them any less of being a woman? Heck no.

Many activities such as racing sports cars, motorcycle riding, watching sporting events, etc. are stereotypically associated with "male" activities, but they are not strictly gender specific activities. Many women enjoy doing those very same things.

Just be yourself, and enjoy what makes you happy :)

Love

Brenda

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said.

If you love certain things, you don't need to change them just because you're turning into a woman...or a man. I mean luckily for me, all the stuff I love is guy stuff. But my favorite movie as a kid was Little Mermaid...and I'm not going to lie that it was different...cause it was a great story, about a kid wanting to be something else...so I love that story.

But personally, girls that love stuff that I'm into is always a plus. I think we need to break gender roles anyway.

Do what you love...and love what you do.

They're right. I enjoy things like paintball, video games, computers, and target archery, and yet i like pink, makeup, cute clothes, and other girly things. While I haven't and probably won't start hormones for a while I have no intention of giving up things I like to do just to fit into a stereotype. I would rather be a tomboy who likes girly things and does the things she loves, than give those things up to be a prissy stereotype that thinks all things boy are wrong. Be the woman you want to be.

A lot of Ciswomen like Sports, watch soccer, moto gp. You can TAKE INTEREST in Female hobbies if you want, it could always be useful if you find something you like, maybe you can make some new Female friends. :) Get out there more and have fun... but don't give up hobbies you already enjoy.

It's taking it way too far.

When I see or hear of this type of action it looks far too much like a fabrication to me. It's self-defeating behavior.

There's no point in it as one's hobby's hardly makes one less a boy or girl.

I think people that take on this approach are trying way too hard to say something and it's far from necessary.

Or maybe they're tryin' to say something to themselves, in which case extended therapy sessions may be in order?

Viv I agree with what everyone else has said and there is no reason for you to give up things that you really like. There are some things I don't do that are "typical" women things because I don't like them and there are "typical" guy things that I still like ... so your friend may decide to get rid of everything that reminds her of when she was not her true self but that doesn't mean that you have to get rid of everything too. Just my opinion.

Hi Viv

No No No if you like a hobby or occupation that is of the other gender you should keep it. That is probably the only benifit of being Trans, the fact that some of us felt the need to do those things gave us the experiences of those events. It would be a shame to give up those interests if we like them. Personaly I want to be the hot looking woman that scoots herself out from under a beautiful classic car with a wrench in one hand and a smudge of grease on my cheek. :D That would make my day.

Viv, to you, this is "your world", so you live in it as you see fit. There was a time in my life when, though I wanted desperately to be a girl, I also dated girls. And the ones that I always liked were the ones who did whatever THEY wanted to do, and didn't "conform to the norm".

If this other girl's friendship is worth it to you, you can join her in her world when you wish. And by the same token, you can also go back into yours as you wish. Perhaps she might even follow you at times... if she's your friend. :)

XX,

Rachel

Viv,

My best friend is still a huge Formula1 fan.

I found my intense interest in sport had about gone away.

That is until I got cable again for the first time in five years.

I found I still like some sports, just not quite like how I used to.

Like what you want sweety, just don't change for another person.

I know once upon a time my ex told me that if I don't like soaps,

I am not a real woman.Well I still don't like soaps and I am all woman.

Hugs Viv,

Well...well...well....

It looks as though we have a general consensus here!

It boils down to ...enjoy what you enjoy!

Don't bend to a stereotype ....

And always remember....In Transgenderism, there are no panty checks..

You don't have to fit a mold...I really like all of the answers here...A lot of real individuals!

Wonderful!

Never let anyone tell you what you have to like or dislike to be a man or woman!

Love...

Hi Girlfriend,

I have some ideas! Be your sweet loving self. Do what you enjoy and do it because you enjoy it. That's why it's called a "hobby". :D

Hobbies make you feel good and if you feel good, you're happy.

So, please yourself. Heaven knows, you're not a girl due to intense public pressure now, are you?

Love 'ya, Sis

I've met some young women (20's at least) that still play ice hockey. I've met guys that sew/needlepoint. We all know cooking for example is really a non-sexual hobby. And we're seeing more and more activities become that. I think one of the added benefits of realizing and accepting our transgendered nature is that it can allow us to more openly explore activities that in the past we may have tried to exclude for fear of being 'outed'.

It's a shame life is like this. Anyone should be able to enjoy whatever he or she likes to do (if it doesn't harm or hinder another). We are all ourselves before, during, and after whatever we choose to make of our lives. And our pastimes should be just as open.

Hugs,

Chloë

there are LOTS of different girls out there the same way there are lots of different boys out there, with a multitude of hobbies and behaviors for all.

If you like it, don't give it up.

My interests have change a little since i transitioned, i never missed a nascar race or football game on tv and now if i miss a race or game it does not bother me.

I absolutely refuse to give up my beloved bowling just cause i am transitioning, which required everyone in both bowling leagues that knew him to be told.

I am ambidextrous. I learned to write righty in school so I usually write with my right hand but my handwriting is better if I use my left hand. I use a lefty mouse. I am physically stronger in my left side.

Easy, I have felt the same way, not quite to the point of wanting to quit but sitting there one dosing morning and thinking "what am I doing?". I am in a crazy place right now; family is moving across the country, I am being laid off for the first time in my career and have to find a new job, and I'm in the middle of this gender journey that seems like it makes everything harder than it could be. I'd always been a "man with boobs", even when I was in my 20s and really skinny I had breast tissue, and now I'm accepting of that and want more but in a different way--I don't want to be a man with boobs, I want something different. I am something different, but it's hard because of nearly a half-century of social programing. So I empathize with your struggle, very directly.   I haven't dressed "male" for nearly six months and I just volunteered at a conference with my femme nickname and she/her pronouns on my name lanyard. The whole experience was great, I didn't feel a minute of anxiety or worry. That stuff comes at home, when left to my thoughts. Which is more telling? The comfort being Mae in public or the doubts and worry in private?   When I look in the mirror and see this more feminine me, it calms down the doubts and worry, so I'm starting to allow myself to trust in the former.

Totally!  I started HRT 21 months ago.  I'm 53yo now.  I mostly did not want the feminine genes of my family to take me over.  I told my doctor I wanted athletic breasts.  She has kept me on fairly low doses and I'm avoiding progesterone so far.   It's mostly mental for me.  Taking the pressure off from not having erections is soothing and changes my thinking.  I just want that stuff gone.  I had fun with it, but I'm over it.   I'm extremely happy with what has happened with my breasts.  Perhaps it took more than a year, but they have a feminine, athletic appearance now.  I don't notice changes in the rest of my body.  I've always enjoyed being thin and straight and have no desire for curves.  I can dig that butch with a feminine touch look.  I was upset at cutting my hair, but I'm liking it now.   It's fun to see all these young transwomen in my environment.  Everyone has their own style and the younger generation has a style of their own compared to us older people.   OK, back to baking a pie and doing some knitting....

I have one daughter who is left handed.  But she is fairly ambidextrous.  Apparently you have to be.

The time I spent "on the street" was mostly in the woods.  I dislike cities.  Even now my "bathroom" is out in the back yard, and has been for years.  When you're used to it, it's not so bad.  Helps one keep up with the seasons. I have no desire to live on the street in a city. Most of my adult kids live in cities.  It's nice enough for a visit, but I still prefer the country.

It's amazing how we can use either hand to write with, not too many people can do that.

Y'all be holding pencils like left handed people but I just hold my pens/pencils in ways that make people go "what the actual [squid]"
    • Ladypcnj
Hi Ivy, I can relate to that holding my pencil in my left hand although I'm right-handed.

So I am two months into E therapy as of this week. What can I say? I am now a busty blond supermodel who doesn't look a day over 25. This stuff is amazing!   OK, so I exaggerate, lol ... Seriously, the effects have been subtle so far. I would say very slight "plumping" in the chest region. More pronounced feelings at times (especially anger, which I don't necessarily like). The downstairs feels ... different...  I can tell something is going on to affect that region. Things come and go. I do feel overall ... different. Still dealing with fatigue though not as much as last week...   Back story: I had treatment for head and neck cancer 20 years ago. One surgery removed a tumor in my lymph nodes. They took out a whole bunch of stuff from my neck that was anywhere close to the tumor, including part of my shoulder muscle on the left side. Since then, my shoulders are lopsided and things (i.e. my chest) tend to sag on that side. I have long joked that I had a "uni-boob". Well, maybe the other side is going to catch up a little? Right now, I wouldn't pass for female upstairs except for the uni-boob (and the fact that I keep everything shaved).    I nearly quit HRT last week. I have been pretty discouraged overall with my life, career, relationships, direction. I feel pretty rudderless at times, and nothing seems to be going anywhere. For a day, I just felt like HRT was going to add to the misery: who is going to want a "man with boobs" (I still really crave the affections of a female, which is why a lot of this is very confusing). But those feelings seemed to have passed or at least are on simmer... For now I will keep going.    I just don't think I can ever give up wanting to dress female or desiring to have a more feminine body shape. Where that leads, who the heck knows... What a strange life this is turning out to be ...

I've been feeling for decades about how completely awful the bathroom situation is in America.  We have these portable restrooms all over the place in the cities with people coming to empty them but there is a sewer right underneath them.  When I lived on the streets, at night if I had to go, I often walked 12 blocks to a portable restroom only to find that it is locked and then I would scour the city for a 20oz coke bottle to pee in.  It was sad when society had to fight stupid people making restrooms in parks unsafe.  It seems like things were better in the 70's.
    • Lydia_R
Totally.   Coffee is too expensive this morning, but last month I hunted down some nice ginger and had that stored well in the meat drawer of my fridge that I don't use for meat.  Made a nice pot of ginger tea and played piano while it was boiling.   D-7  Bbmaj7  G-7  Bbmaj7  A7#9  repeat the cycle   Cmaj  Emin  Amin G  F  C/E (or is it E-?)  D (lydian!)  G   Fun stuff.  The Navy had me playing Jamiroquai's High Times on bass around South America.  Fun bass line on a 5 string bass!  I played it for the first time in 25 years the other day.  Sure was fun!  Not too into the lyrics.  Jay Kay is wonderfully melodic though.   Put on Allentown, sitting at my computer.  Someone has to do this work.  I can't really afford it, but I need a battery for my watch with hands.  I'm likely going to ride the bus there because I'm working on healing my feet.  I hate the bus, but this guy at that store can replace the battery in 20 seconds.  I'm lost without my watch.  My stupid clock in the kitchen went on "power saver" mode and the clock goes to sleep.  Not a good way to cook.  I use my watch for all kinds of things though.  I've got my old men's Timex on the ear of the stained glass owl in the entry.  It has a dead bat too.
