I Came Out To My Parents

So I was having dinner with my parents again, my mom said she noticed I was much happier with life. She asked why, I kept saying no reason. She kept drilling me for like 45 mins, so I finally told her. My dad said nothing, nothing at all. My mom said "No. Stop lying." Then she stared at the wall for 30 minutes. I was waiting for questions, but they didn't ask. So I got up and left.

Hehehehehe, why do I feel so happy? I laughed all the way home. I think I'm happy because I finally got the big issue out of the way, and maybe they need some time to think about it. God that was hard. I need a hug or something. I feel fantastic, though.

Update:

My mom came over to my house and had some questions for me. I educated her a bit more on the subject, and she said she's seen a TV program about trans people. She tried playing devil's advocate and asking questions to get me to doubt myself, or other silly questions. I wish she'd realize though. For me, it's not about sexual intercourse! God why is that all people think about, or their ultimate goal, or their best thing. For me it's about my emotions, how I wanted to be treated growing up, in highschool, how I react to people, how I deal with situations, how I want to look, how I want to be treated now. All these things truly make me feel like a girl in my heart.

She said she does support me, but she doesn't want me to hurt myself. She said just to be careful, and to get more counseling. She said she doesn't want me to have any regrets. So, that does make me feel happy, that she supports me at least. I already know that the only regret I'll have is not coming out when I was 16 years old!

*Edit

I forgot to mention, I showed my mom the girl pics I made of myself, to try help convince her. She said "THAT'S YOU?!!!" She didn't even know at first; I was pretty pleased.

It's only natural that your mother would have concerns for you. Once she sees that you are happy, she''ll be on your team for life. Trust me. I know how mothers think. I think you look very much like a girl. BTW

Thank you very much, MaryEllen. You made my heart soar.

More update:

I came out to another genetic girl friend of mine, because she noticed I was a lot happier lately and asked what's up. I told her, and she said she understands it, she has an FTM friend that just recently had his breasts removed. My friend then told me, "I'm not really surprised, you always did choose the softer things." That was like the best compliment ever, and so reassuring. She says I need an advisor and wants to help me with my hair and other things. :D

I read a very enlightening and uplifting story about a mom who discovered her 21 year old transdaughter. It's a long read, but I highly recommend it for those who have the time. This person sounds so much like me, and my childhood... I'm going to show this story to my mom to help her understand.

My dad said what about sexual intercourse so I told him about gender affirming surgery and that I will still be able to have sexual intercourse but with the female genitalia which the surgery will give me. He didn't say nothing back but he his talking to me and being civilized and is accepting me as the young woman I am.

My dad keeps talking about how he used to CD when he was a teen for the "stimulation".

and he doesnt want me to CD because of that.

why he wont understand that i dont get the stimulation.

i feel free instead of trapped inside this stupid bodily barrier.

and that the fact that i seem happier when i CD

Thats great Michelle, I'm glad your parents are being civilized about it. Its encouraging to hear such stories as yours.

I only hope my mom will be half as understanding as yours.

Love

Great job Michelle! You have done the one thing I have been afraid to do for years. In about a year I am going on a 4 day road trip with my Dad. I think I will tell him sometime then... But still! AWESOME! *Superhugs!*

I don't really understand the logic in this but according to my dad people are gay or trans because they are lazy and don't work hard enough to keep their mind off such things. OMG that peed me off, but since I have not come out to them, and probably won't until I move, I kept my mouth shut.

Anyway I'm so glad your mom and friends are supportive. I think it's a good sign that we are taking tiny baby steps in the direction of acceptance.

Good afternoon M.A.   Welcome to Transgender Pulse Forums, I think you'll find that there are a lot of us who had their first therapist reconsidering our story and recommended us to gender or LGBTQIA specific therapist. I made my first therapist cry after asking me what was my worst experience or memory. She was not prepared for the can of worms I brought to the couch. My second therapist is a gem, she's my age and knows how to work with my thoughts.    My two kids were also involved in the arts programs in school one in theater, the other combined art and modern music.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Welcome.   This can be a good sounding board and a place to say things you otherwise could not. Be yourself. Find out what that is.   Abby

I'm wearing a white t shirt and jeans.  The t-shirt is softer than a man's and slightly girly.  Feeling kinda pretty.

That's very common in internet forums and it is hard not to take it personally sometimes.   You might post "bump" with a smiley face to bring it to the top of the stack, or you might use the @ feature if there are certain people you would really like to have comment on it, and say something like Dear Abby, I would really like your input on this.  Please take a minute and respond.  Thanks!!!

The same for me... That's exactly were MmIndy came from. I started choosing female skins as soon as they became available in the few games I played.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Something else I noticed @Ladypcnj Since I use the Unread tab, I don't see threads I've read again until someone replies to it, or the author adds something.   Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Good morning @Ladypcnj   Some posts get lost in the busy times here. It also maters how people navigate the site. Some only look at their notifications, or tap the All Activity tab which shows them thread they've commented on. (how I see it)... I on the other hand use the Unread tag under Activity. I don't think people ignore post as much as they get caught up reading threads they've already been active in.   Best wishes, stay positive, and motivated,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋
    • Ladypcnj
What to do if post is being ignored?

LOL.  I have done this more than once.
