First Laser Session

Hi folks,

Just thought I'd add another one to the list for laser hair removal. Had test patches on my beard, tummy and back two/three weeks ago and went for the proper first session yesterday evening. Over 3500 shots of the laser required to do my chest, tummy and beard. Took about an 1hr 45mins.

My body and beard hair is pretty dark (even though I'm blond) and coarse and well, extensive, but it's responding well. We're using an Alexandrite laser at 20J/cm^2 with a pulse time of 10ms on the chest & tummy and 19J/cm^2 on the face (18J/cm^2 on the top lip) with a pulse time of 20ms. She says we will increase the energy as we go. I'm a borderline skin type II (close to type I). Apparently she can see the hair evaporating as she goes, everywhere apart from on the boney bit of my chin (too light coloured?), but it is generally good news. I am prepared to mop up any remaining hair with electrolysis, but am hoping that need will be minimal. I didn't tell them I was trans and no questions about being trans were asked (although lots of medical history questions were, and I have to tell them what medicines I'm taking, and they'll know sure enough once I change my name if they haven't already figured! ;)) They weren't phased by my old SH scars (I'm noting this for other people's benefit as I was worried about that).

Over all: very good so far, not a lot of redness. Minimal on the face, some on the tummy. I'm going to get my back done as well. Prices are £750 for 7 sessions on the beard, £1250 for 7 sessions on the chest/tummy, £1500 for 7 sessions on the back, upper arms and neck. (I can't work out why the back is more expensive than my chest/tummy as the hair isn't anything like as extensive).

I've got to space the beard sessions out at every four weeks, and the body hair sessions at every six weeks.

Hi folks,

Amy

Honey....I'm not sure what you mean by that...SH?

Can you help me?

Oh, My,

That is a lot of pounds!

It will be worth it - the more laser and less electrolysis the better.

Good luck with it.

Love ya,

Sally

Hi Donna, good to see you again. :) I've been sans Internet access at home for a while while they fixed a fault with our telephone line.

I meant old scars from self harm (long since stopped).

Oh...I'm glad that you're back! I'm having computer problems myself...it's in the shop...

Thanks for clearing that up...I hope that I didn't embarrass you...I just didn't know....

And, you're really getting a LOT done on yourself...lots of hairs gone! Good on you!

LOVE & HUGGS!

Hi Sally, it sure is a lot and I've had to raid my savings, but it's cheaper than if I went purely for electrolysis, and hopefully it'll be worth it. :) (I'll post about my results over time.)

That's ok Donna, don't worry, on the scale of embarrassing things, I'm still more embarrassed about wanting to be a girl than a few scars, and you all already know about that one ;)

Amy,

Don't be embarrassed about needing to be a girl - I understand it is rather common around here!

And Donna Jean is so nice she always worries about asking anything close to a personal question but most of us have moved way beyond being embarrassed in here, now out in the big, mean, cruel ,cold heartless world (Maybe a touch overstated) it is a different matter.

Can't wait to hear about your progress.

Love ya,

Sally

Congrats for starting laser Amy,

You will probably not see allot of change till after your 4th session, hair grows in 3 phases and after the 4th session you will have had all 3 phases treated, i have had 10 sessions and my dark facial and neck hairs are gone, i started electrolysis in July to get the white hairs and have made really great progress.

You might want to wait to remove your body hair till after you are on hormones for awhile, hormones tend to slow body hair growrth, thin out and lighten what body hair you have, you will probably save some money.

On my second visit with the dr that does my laser i told her i was transitioning, i thought it best since i would be changing lots over the course of the next year, she was not phased in the least, in fact she had moved here from Trinidad, Co and knew Dr. Marcy Bowers and she treated many trans while practicing there.

Sup singly, a superintendent prevented a student within the transgender community from changing current name, to the new name in which the student identifies with, I don't know how far back this story goes, but if you Google it under Oklahoma along with "student name change" the article should pop up. I'm not transgender, but I can relate to the process of legally getting a name change done, it's a lot of paperwork from court, a lot of traveling, and expenses depending on the laws from each state.

No one seemed to pay attention to me other than a young woman who complimented me on my skirt and an older gentleman who smiled at me as we passed each other.

Wow, I guess it’s the dat to be in trouble.  I’ve been hit twice by the ASM today and it’s my day off.  Why didn’t you, followed latter with a where is the.  Made me realize that I do t want to continue working long enough to pay for it. I guess I’ll just to have to stick with my 20 year old car for now.   I suppose sooner or later only one of us won’t be able to drive anymore.  Since I am older you might think it would be me but at this time i am the one that does all the driving except when she goes to church or the store when I’m at work.  She hasn’t driven anywhere since February and hasn’t driven more than 10 miles in perhaps a year.  Yet the “good” car was purchased for her not for me because she couldn’t drive the Jeep which we bought strictly for her because she wanted it.  But it turned out I was the one that really liked it.  Can’t win.

Had one like that one time that would bite you on occasion.  Got rid of that thing quickly.

Good morning :)   I have coffee today, but the cup keeps leaking (I guess the cap isn't able to fully seal or something), so I keep having to wipe up the sides lol   Almost finished all my missing work for school, which means if I do a bit more work, I should be out of trouble with my parents (not even that bad of trouble compared to when I was younger, more just an annoyance haha)

Sending good thoughts for you, Raine.

Good morning 😘   Finished packing up my kitchen and pantry for fumigation today. I also modified my backpack to make it day-centre compliant.  I was able to get almost 2 hrs sleep last night, so I'll survive. 😑

I'll be going to some Pride events as a spectator.  Maybe marching in a parade if they have open participation.    The event we'd prefer to go to is held in a small town with a population of less than 600.  They have a parade through all three blocks of their downtown area.  Unfortunately, this year it is on the same day as a memorial service for a friend who passed away this winter, so we'll have to miss it.  So our second choice is a larger town, population about 9000, a bit farther away.    And we are keeping our eyes open for other events in the general area as they are announced.   I dress a bit flashier than normal, with some trans bling, such as rainbow or trans flag earrings, a trans symbol pendant, and a handheld trans flag to wave.  Political sentiment is turning against us, but public sentiment here is still strongly on our side, so getting out and showing the flag, both literally and figuratively, is important.
