My therapist told me he considered me full time in May since my HR department at work knew, i have been following the SOC guidelines closer than my therapist has and the the parameters for RLE which i consider full time is as follows:

1. to maintain full or part time employment. check

2. to function as a student.

3. to function in community-based volunteer activity

4. to undertake some combination of items 1 - 3; check

5. to acquire a (legal) genger-identity-appropriate first name. check i have both first and middle name.

6. to provide documentation that persons other than the therapist know that the patient functions in the desired gender role. check

November 18 i got my name change finalized and November 23 when those that need to know at work were told i consider this my official date of going full time.

Blossom,

Thank you for asking. I voted begining to present as my chosen gender. That felt strange to select. The word begining, it is where I am and that makes me feel better about where I am. I often feel like I should be here or there instead of where I am. I all to often look for happiness in the future and not in the present. I have been making an effort to enjot each day. It works about half the time but, that's better than not at all.

Transition is an amazing journey and this time last year I would have been more than satisfied to be where I am today. I long to be so much different than I am physicaly. I am feeling allot closer to who I want to be mentaly. I self identify as a woman all the time and that makes the fasade harder to hold up at times. I don't think anyone but myself sees or understands that strugle.

Christmas can be hard for us, I would like to propose that we all accept Laura's Playground as the gift that it is. We also have a community here that is world class and full of Peace, Love, Hope and Joy. So we are a Christmas community all year long.

Peace & Love Amanda

Blossom....

Honey, I wanted to answer to two parts, but I can only answer to one...

I clicked "HRT" (10 months..)

But I also wanted to click "Beginning to present in public as your chosen gender"...because I do that, too!

I get "Ma'am'd" in public all the time (Twice today at Wal Mart..4 STAR)...

Early on I was afraid of reaching this point and now I can't wait to go full time!

HUGGS!

Eh this is a hard poll for me. Because I've always presented as male online since I was like 12. And I always dress as male, even if I don't pass. So eh...it's weird.

The employment part of the SOC is garbage.. it has been challenged in court and thrown out as blatantly discriminatory after challenges by people over retirement age and the disabled. Living full time means just that.. everything you do is done in your chosen gender.. shopping, doctors, home, bar, social.. everything.. work makes no difference.. that's just a hangover lump of 1960's garbage used these days to try and exclude poor and socially disadvantaged transgendered people from attaining what they need to function in a world where they can't be discriminated against. BE AWARE the SOC were written half a century ago and in many cases are completely invalid and reflective of the society they were written in..

I apologize to everyone for the gray areas. It was just so hard to cover all the possibilities. If you have already accomplished one or more of the choices, go with the point you are currently at. I have been presenting as female for about six months but will be starting HRT the first of the year. I guess I could have checked either one, but voted as on HRT.

Started HRT about two months ago, been living full time for more than 2 years. I think I checked living full time since it looks like you've put them in an order, and HRT comes before full time.

I've lived full time for 10 years now. I might never be able to afford surgery, but I'm working on coming to terms with that possibility.

Never say never! I may have to move to the other side of the country to get mine, but if that's what it takes, I'm there! Almost half the cost is covered in Vancouver, B.C., or was the last time I looked into it. They seem to flip-flop a lot, in the past it's been partially covered, fully covered, not covered, back to partially covered. I'm hoping at some point it'll be fully covered everywhere in Canada.

I voted "in therapy", though I'm also beginning to present in public, just a wee bit. Most of the clothing I wear out is from the ladies department, even if it isn't always obvious. I don't shop in the mens section anymore. In fact, got some more goodies for my xmas presents today! 5 more days! woohoo!!!!

I clicked "Beginning to present in public as your chosen gender" and it's about right. I'm not on HRT but is in therapy in a way even though I'm not seeing them or anything until March next year.

I have lived full time now since 1983/4 and legal name change was (to this one) 9 years ago. I had a strange legal female name before that from 1989 which was a menace in the UK as people always had to query the spelling so it drew too much attention (don't change your name abroad to something which is fine there... because it may not be ordinary at home). .. so full time 21 years on 23rd January.. woot!! .. I'm 21 in January XD

Fully transitioned and just wanting surgery sometime. That can wait now until I'm resettled. Enough of waiting on the NHS.. they have wasted too many of my years already, and I'm not doing 3-5 more to end up with an unsatisfactory result... I have survived 40 years in the wrong body, a couple more aren't going to kill me, but waiting on the UK health service and jumping through all their hoops a second time just might..

Hi Blossom,

I ticked "Beginning to present in public as your chosen gender"

I'm not presenting as a woman 100% but am working up to it in small steps such as wearing nail polish and lip gloss.

My new years resolution is to present as Rachael in her full glory before the end of 2010.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to post and complete the survey. I'm wondering if the moderators might feel this threadmis worthy of making a sticky so we can get an idea of where the members of the forum are in their transition?

This is funny, because it just isn't a linear path. I've been presenting as a girl online, duh, for a while. I'm presenting as a male everywhere but at home.

I'm virtually wrapped up and done with therapy and just started HRT.

I have NOT been public as my real self, so I'm out of sequence. I'll be fixing that and venturing out next month. I'm both excited and scared at the same time. I sure look a lot like a guy... Ick.

I do have to say, however, that my mannerisms have changed a lot, according to my wife. She's a little uptight about visiting her family over the Holidays. I told her I can act like a real guy for a few days.

This makes me feel like I'm making progress!! I have to work at acting like a guy. Funny....

Sweetheart....

We have to work extra hard, since we are "Mature"...lol

We've acted at being men our whole life and now to do a 180....it's not easy..

But you saying "I sure look a lot like a guy"...well, most of us did...

I think it would be interesting to put up a thread with pictures of about 10 of us girls "as we were" and let everyone try to figure out who each one is...

Problem there, is that no one wants anyone to see their old self......LOL

Maybe an old pic of me in my flight suit standing on the wing of an airplane or astride a Harley...that's pretty dang "male"!!!!

HUGGS!

Hum, I'm thinking what you have described actually follows the linear progression of the poll fairly closely? I put "presenting in public" before "HRT" because some people are fortunate to be able to pass well, and others have health concerns or difficulting affording medication so they may have begun to present as their chosen gender before they begin any HRT.

1. to maintain full or part time employment. full time in the same position that I had before I started transition

2. to function as a student. N/A

3. to function in community-based volunteer activity N/A

4. to undertake some combination of items 1 - 3; yep

5. to acquire a (legal) genger-identity-appropriate first name. waiting on this till i move back to Canada, don't need to pay for it twice

6. to provide documentation that persons other than the therapist know that the patient functions in the desired gender role. yep, got my carry letter

6 months in RLE, and 4 months on hormones I live and work in my chosen gender, and have a gender appropriate (though not yet legalized) first and middle name. I have no idea just how much more full time I could be. I am planning SRS but that will be done under the provincial health plan in British Columbia; I will be eligible for assessment almost as soon as I get there but there are some steps which have to be done first.

Very pretty y'all. 4" heels is the max I can handle and not for long period of time. I don't see how women wear 5" and above. I love my feet. I sure don't want to punish them.
    • Ashley0616
Well just been doing a lot of self reflection and a lot of gender dysphoria that has caused me to break down. The realization has been that I'm a trial period for men and women don't even consider me. It's getting dim. I have put myself out there by force even when I didn't want to. I have one friend but still haven't seen her IRL yet. We talk on Sundays and it's always me that starts it. Another person only talks to me when they want something. It's never been hey how are you doing. It's almost a month to my birthday and it's all just my mom, sister, nephew that are coming. So much for a 40th birthday party. I hate these posts. I want to be optimistic, positive and cheerful but I haven't seen anything go my way. I'm making it by the skin of my teeth. I wished I could just go into a coma for a year or just not wake up.
    • Ashley0616
Sorry I have been absent a lot but I do read your posts though.
    • Ashley0616
@Michelle_S lol it took a year to get that many. It's nice to have a large number but having the thoughts of helping someone far outweigh the number of posts. I have been absent a lot lately. Back at it tomorrow though lol.
    • Ashley0616
I understand. I have the opposite problem. I'm really tall, my feet are size 13, I don't have any curves mostly but I do have breasts so at least I got that but I get stared at. I have tried dating to men I'm just a trial period and none of the women want to date me as a trans woman so I'm just stuck being single. I do have one friend and that's it. I'm right there with you about not being able to work. I haven't been able to come up with the money for any surgeries. I have a wealthy dream and disability IRL. If you want I can chat with you.
    • KayC
Will do @Michelle_S  sending you a text soon.  My apologies for not being in touch sooner

Not sure I could handle 4" heels.  I do have some 2" ankle boots though.

When I got on HRT people remarked on how happy I was.  I had insisted that I was happy before, but now I realized I only thought so.
    • Birdie
My new 4" heels I picked up today! 😘

One of the nicest confirmations for me was when the 'new me' felt absolutely normal. I had, like almost everyone, felt very excited with each new development. But 6 years in, it's wonderful just experiencing things, like HRT, as daily rituals that are simply part of my life.   I also am privileged to have experienced a feminine perspective these last six years. It confirms how unhappy I was earlier, and things like masculine privilege and mansplaining are so apparent to me now.    Kind regards,   Astrid

OK, I have several things that should be going for me, but really don't make much difference.  I have been on HRT since 2009 but my height is 5'11 and 230 pounds, not much up top and have never done facial hair removal sol without make-up it is old lady white on my face.  Every now and then I get someone with that weird look on their face but rarely get fully "clocked" as Trans unless I am in a bunch of Drag Queens  even without being in Drag.  For the most part though I simply no longer worry about misgendering and "do not hear it" if it happens, but if I hear too much I just leave the situation.   Your genetics are playing a big part in your life due to the height and inability to "Bulk UP".  That said, in ordinary daily life are you trying too hard to "man up?" so that your actions are exaggerated and not convincing.  A chip on the shoulder male will invite more trouble that one not trying so hard.  Do you know who you are?  Be that person and the gender is easier to pull off.  I am an overweight feminine dressing older lady with dyed red hair and some minorly atypical ability to take part in "male interests" hobby wise and I can be assertive in business issues.    I have two Trans Male acquaintances who could be your body doubles.  One is a true friend and has male traits of interest in people, a willingness to care and be straightforward in masculine behaviors, is a good listener and a whole lot of that stuff in him.  He gets an occasional "read" but sloughs it off and doesn't respond.  The other acquaintance will remain just that since he is screechy, thinks he is a celebrity in the community and the whole garbanzo.  He is about 49% likely to be misgendered and go off in a persons face when it happens and makes the rest of us wonder why we keep him around.    We are our own worst enemies when judging what we look like , absolutely the very worst, and we will call attention to what we see as flaws and out ourselves as I did often in my first years.  By now the problem children in my life have moved on and the rest simply know me as ME and as the result it does not matter if I pass or not.  Hard facts not positivity.  It will take you time, maybe more time than I have to be around, but when all else fails, lower your demands and expectations and it will happen.
