Haircut

So---my still-too-long haircut is growing out---and it looks terrible---plus it's starting to grow into my eyes again (drives me crraaazy )

I want something that's masculine/androgynous---and I'm really tempted to just get a family member to take clippers to it and leave me with that standard androgynous sort of buzz cut looking hair. I *do not* want to have to go back to college on Monday and look like a girl (got my binder today ). But I'm a giant chicken who's never had really, really short hair

I'm worried it might not turn out too well.

Any suggestions aside from this?

The only things are:

-I've got a long-ish face (but I look good with my hair pulled back anyway so it might not be an issue)

-got a major cowlick smack dab in the middle of my forehead---no amount of brushing, styling, blow-drying, ironing etc. has managed to tame 'the beast' thus far

-really thick hair (so if it's gonna go short it has to be *short* or else it's puffy)

-There's a scar on the back of my head from my shunt insertion surgery---so i'd rather not have a bald spot--but I've never actually seen it so I dunno if the scar is big enough to affect the hair growth to the extent that I'd have a bald spot)

Perhaps you can get it slightly longer than typical male hair but not quite to girl length and then spike it all around.
