Hello;

Just wanted to stop by and kinda introduce myself. I am a 47 year old that just started her HRT today. Just waiting for my last presciption to get filled tomorrow, I did get my first two shots today and the dr. office and filled my prescription for the Spiro amd took the first pill a few minutes ago.

I am also retired from the US Navy, 20 years riding Submarines and having GID is a hard thing to survive. I had only one session with my GT and she directed me to my Endo. He also had no problem with me starting, just had to do some lab work, which we got the results back yesterday and he said all looked good for my starting.

I am also going to tramsition while at work. My plan is 12 - 14 monthes HRT before I start my RLT. Being in Hawaii and working as a government employee will help.

Hi, Valerie, and welcome to the Playground! I think we have a few ex-sailors around here, but they're busy swabbing the decks or something. They'll be along

during the next shore leave.

Wow, it sounds like you are traveling on the ship of transition at flank speed, hon. Good for you. Check out the HRT and MtF forums when you get the chance,

as well as any other forum that interests you. You can start a topic in any but the Teen forum, and post a reply in any forum.

We are a moderated site and keep the posts at a PG-13 level in the interest of our younger teens. Please take a few minutes to read the forum rules. A link can

be found at the top of most pages.

Congrats on starting HRT and doing things the right way, and by that I do mean finding this place as well as seeing a G.T. You are in good company!

Hi Valerie,

Welcome to Laura's. It's wonderful that you were able to move to HRT so quickly. I actually had my first session with my therapist last week, and it sounds like I will move to the endo doc for physical evaluation soon. He seemed almost ready to refer me on over, but I am holding back a bit to settle family issues; I figured it to take longer. Good luck on the scripts - may you develop the double-Ds real soon, or at least the size you want!

Well Hello Valerie!

So you were a submariner, not my cup of tea - claustrophobic and 6'4" - glad that you could do it.

So happy that things are moving along so well in your transition.

Would you care to come into the lounge and have a seat by the fires while I get you some hot cocoa and some of my fresh baked cookies?

I know that it is warm in Hawaii but we let the playground get cold at night because we love having a fire and hot cocoa.

We are very friendly and there are a lot of veterans here as well, welcome to the family.

Love ya,

Sally

You are a lucky girl. In my country you need first one year of RLT to start HRT. I think this is unfair. I wish you all the best for your HRT and RLT.

It is great things are working for you. I just joined Laura's too. I came out to a friend last might and have her full support. I am still trying to find a GT and hope it goes as smooth for as it is for you. If you ever want to chat PM me. I would love to be a friend for you and go through it with you. Thank you all for the very nice welcome. Yes, I do really like hot coco not so much for cookies unless they are chocolate chips.

When I met my GT, I had talked to her for about 15 minutes, then she asked me about what I had in mind. When I told her, she was impressed. ( I guess )

I laid out my plan and my time-line and that impressed her. As I was going over that I informed her that I had been researching on the net about transgender/transexual/Cross dressing for ovr three years. I had read all about the old SOC and the new SOC. I told her what I had interpited all of that to what I thought it ment, I asked her several questions about the process and what it would be like to do my transition here on Ohau. When I told her that I worked at the Shipyard here and that I knew of at least two others that had completed their transition at the yard she was a little taken back, by the fact that I had known that much.

I also informed her that my transition on the job is going to be very interesting, too say the least. That is due to the fact I still work on Submarines and very close to the sailors and upper management within the shipyard. Alot of peole that I work with here have known me for over 20 years. Okay, not only do I work on the Subs, I am also an Engineering Technician, as well as an Assistant Chief Test Engineer - Weapons. I am in charge of testing the all of the various weapons systems onboard subs and I also still go to sea on them.

I also had informed her that I had come-out to a very close friend and that she was very supportive. I still have not talked to my mother or my sisters about this, but then again I have not talked to my family other then my mother in about 20 years. Soo, as you can see I am very tight lipped about what I do and have done during my military career and that is for various reasons. If you have any questions about that you may want to ask other vets about the various security reasons.

Now, I have not talked this much about myself in alot of years. Just wanted to give my fellow sisters a little back ground on myself.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask, if I can not answer your questions I will try to point you in the right direction to find the answer ro someting as close to the answer as I am allowed to answer.

/HUGS again and thank you for the warm welcoming.

Valerie.

Hello. I'm new too, but just wanted to say hello. I'm amazed that oyu didn't have to fight your way though a gatekeeping exercise. You must have really explained yourself well.

I guess I'm one of those other sailors... erm.. well ok I never spent a night on a ship in six years in the Navy, so maybe I don't count. I was a hospital corpsmen though.

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
