Repairing A Breast Form

As some of you may be aware, I was in a car accident a little over a month ago and unfortunately some of my things were in the trunk, and my car was rear-ended, destroying the back half. One of my breast forms got caught in a big metal squeeze and all the silicone was pushed out through a rip.

I don't really want to go through purchasing again, as prices have risen, so I'm looking at making it do somehow. Here's my problem. The other form weighs about 19 oz total. If I fill the broken one with rice, at full, it weighs 16 oz. but is rather firm with little movement. If I fill it with just water to get the 19 oz (counting for the weight of covering) I have about 20% of the form empty giving too much movement and poor shape.

My idea now is to fill a plastic container (sealed bag) with about 8-10 oz of water inside the form, and then fill with rice outside it, to get something a little nearer the weight and consistency.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Ummmm

Buy a cheaper silicone form - you can get them for under $60 - the ones women buy.

You will never be happy with one that was repaired!

Hmmm... perhaps silicone caulking? Trying to picture this... To make the weight right, weigh the amount of it you'd need to check for density and you could mix the caulk with rice to make the weight but keep the natural familiar feel of silicone. Just a thought from a young fella that used to be the token estrogen at a family owned hardware store.

Guest i is Sam :-)

obviously you can buy silicone, but i expect silicone sealant is stiffer. gelatin would probably work well, dunno how long it will last but it's a perfect analog for human flesh.

Lizzy,

If I was still a frisky youngster (oh, like maybe 5 years ago or so), I would completely agree with you. But times being what they are (as Prof. Marvel would say), if I can get close, I'll be reasonably content. One of the few things - which can be counted on one hand with pinkies left - that age does for one. Ennui I think it's called.

Tho it may be a last resort. Thanks

I've thought of gelatin, but like rice, it's a 'living' product, which means it will die a lot quicker than silicone. Like I thought - briefly - of adding water to the rice. Just what I want, goopy rice. But I'll look into the silicone sealant. I know what it is. Obviously there's different viscosities and densities of silicone gel.

Thanks

An idea, since you know the weight you need in rice, fill up plastic cups with it till you have how much is equivalent before you. Then if you can get the sealant for relatively cheap put that it a cup and see how much it would take to equal to the rice. Blah blah blah and the rest as they say is stir-fry.

Hi,

this is a part for me.

First of all, you can not glue silicon together. So the hole will be open for ever. Silicon can only be bring into shape once when it is made. After thast you can not add parts to it.

The second part with the density. If you take a look around, silicon can have a density greater or lower than water. If the breast float in water, it is lighter. So you can not add water as you find out. What you can do, take a cup and make it full of water up to the edge. One drop more and the starts droping. Weight the hole thing. Than put the correct breast form into it and let all the water drop out until the form is completly under water. If necessary, push with the finger. Than remove it and weight the cup with water again. Calculate the difference or targa the balance between the two measures. Than go on and weight only the breast form. Than you must divide both values to get the densitiy of the silicone. If the form was floating, the result must be smaller than 1. If it sinks, the result must be bigger than 1.

After you know the densitiy, you can take a look around to find some liquids that have the same densitiy. YOu can mix water with alcohol to make it lighter. You can also by silicon oil that is used for rubber clothing. It also float on water.

Than you must find a way to keep the liquid inside. This is difficult because silicon can not be glued together. So the best thing is to place ballast liquid into a condom. To make it safe, use two of them.

thanks to all! (but keep the ideas coming, this is great!!!)

julia, I think I know what you're talking about with the goo stuff, I'll look into it.

JD, I knew I was going to have to do serious measuring. Fortunately, my spouse has one of those little electric scales that measure food portions. I've already used it, and will again. But cups, yeah, good idea.

Nelly, I was just thinking moments before I read your post about some kind of flexible container (balloons), but I like your idea of a condom, if I can find one that will hold 8-10 oz. - um, that's, uh, a lot of water. Or just double balloons (because they are so cheaply made it seems). You're right about the tear, I think it can only be fused back together and I don't have that equipment, but there are other ways. I believe the density is less than 1, because 19 oz of water only filled it 80% to what the liquid silicon gel did. So I'm looking for something that has a weight of 19 oz, but takes up more volume than water, or rather some combination of ingredients.

Thanks again

LOL......

Even though I have absolutely nothing constructive to add to this delima....

I have to say that it's been a real lesson in physics, volume, surface tension, density, chemistry and rice......

I have read a LOT of posts in the last 2 years, but I gotta say....NEVER anything like this!

Heck, I don't know if you should call Bill Nye the Science guy, Mr Wizzard or Norm from "This 'ole House!"....LOL

Yer killing me.....

Thank, erikka!

I looked up that page and there's some interesting repair tubes there. That one may work, if it does what it says. I'll look into it.

You know, DeeJay, I'm just not all about my rants. I can get into the serious stuff too! If I'm going to dress right, I've got to look right. No mismatches for me. ;)

Hi,

Erikka thank you for that link. I was looking a long time for a supplier of skin like silicon. Now wiht your link, my search found an end. And the best thing is, a shop selling this items is very close to my home town :-) So I can start to built my own breast forms. The biggest problem is to get the silicon. Everything else is just molding.

Now my day is happy.

Greetings

Nelly

hi everyone, my name is giz (or gizzie), i use all prns but i prefer they/it and i just found out abt this place pretty recently !! im really excited to find community among other trans people from so many walks of life !! in my personal life, i do have trans/queer friends but its not easy to navigate that without coming out all willy nilly (and i can't come out to my family, pretty much ever) so this is a pretty good place for me to get to know people and make new friends !!   i also have this weird dysphoria issue that i feel like everyone (and society at large lol) is attaching me to categories and boxes that don't really fit me (obviously this is to do with my agab) so being here without that presentation is also really helpful !!   i also hope to be able to start and share my transitions goals and things like that (just getting my body to a more androgynous look) !!   thanks for reading, and i hope to see more of y'all soon !!

Well, my friends are out publicly. Openly transgender, and on HRT.  I agree that the survival of all of us is at stake.  But I think there are threats greater and more dangerous than those faced exclusively by LGBTQ folks.   Rising prices. Unaffordable food.  EPA strangling transportation and energy.  Needless foreign wars that put us at risk of literal nuclear annihilation.  A government that wants to tax us, track us, and control every aspect of our lives...including using us as guinea pigs for their medical experiments.     Trump is no savior.  Neither is the Republican party.  But I believe that a vote for Democrats in the federal government is for sure a vote for globalism and what follows it.  War, famine, plague, slavery, and death don't care if we're trans or cis.

People who are out publicly, and openly transgender, maybe on HRT, having changed names and gender, have a lot to lose if anti-trans politicians take power.  They have openly called for our eradication, and promise to do everything they can to accomplish this.  (again, 2025) For someone in this position the election is about our survival.  It's foolish to delude ourselves into thinking "Oh, they don't really mean that.  It's all for show," or, "There's other more important things to concern ourselves with." Maybe for some people the other things take priority.  But if you have skin in the game, things look different.

If that happens, a lot of things I don't want to see might also be codified into law.  And some things that shouldn't be law might not get repealed.  To me, progress in one area isn't worth the price we'd have to pay in several other areas.     For me, voting on LGBTQ issues always ends up as an "out of the frying pan, but into the fire" sort of event.

Thea, your post made me think of a comic named Chloe Petts whom I saw recently on Hannah Gadsby's Gender Agenda comedy special on Netflix. She is a cisgender masculine lesbian. She is brilliant and so funny. I was intrigued by her identification - specifically masculine, not butch. And it seems to me there is a difference.

Today I had a dr appt. When I checked in, I was asked my surname, which I gave. Apparently there were two patients with appointments at that time with that same surname. The receptionist asked, "Are you (my legal name which is feminine) or Paul?" I got such a kick out of it not being assumed I had the feminine name.
    • Vidanjali
That must have felt affirming, albeit perhaps weirdly so. However, I'd construe that more broadly (no pun intended) as sexism rather than misogyny where the latter would imply contempt. Also, incidentally, I've heard chivalry referred to as "benevolent sexism".

My boss is in a panic. His business is a couple straws away from breaking a camel in half. He's just handling the stress very poorly.   My dad, though. He's handling things pretty well, as long as I continue to don't get massively offended by being called: son, boy, etc. His eldest is leaving the State and looks so different than he's been used to over the years. I haven't told him I'm on HRT, but to be fair the changes haven't been massive. I've always had boobs, more so after COVID weight gain and made more obvious with its loss, but now I'm not hiding them--and obviously wearing a bra. The estrogen has done some work, but nothing major (sadly). I think the biggest HRT changes have been my skin and a mild amount of fat redistribution.   Today I'm wearing my cheater, I almost have cleavage! :D I need to get another t-shirt bra to keep a good rotation. I only have two, one push-up, and the rest are unlined (great for Summer, but not great for my Summer wardrobe ).
