Welcome to laura's hon. Laura's is a fantastic place to meet new peeps that are going thru pretty much what you are going thru, and they have a wonderful support system here.

I am sure one of the gals will be along shortly to offer you a big ol plate of cookies, and hot cocoa...<grins> Please, make yourself feel at home. We all need a little help from time to time.

Love,

Melissa

Hi Cathy,

Have you looked through the other threads in this particular forum? Perhaps you can see something that you can identify with. Just know one thing. You are not alone here. If you can tell us what's happening with you we'll give you all the support we can muster. Let us help you.

Have you joined the chat yet? If not, I think you can find a lot of help there. The chat is a seperate entity from the forums so you'll have to reregister. Just make sure you have the latest version of JAVA. The moderators in the chat have special training to help out in times of crisis. We hold each member here as very special human beings. Talk to us, hon. We care.

Hi Cathy.

First of all let me assure you (or not) that your Gender has 0% influence on your addiction. I'm on both sides of the border and it doesn't matter who I am.

Then again our personal issues are very personal. Not one being able to accurately "label".

Since you were able to use correct grammar and spelling you might be somewhat sober.

When you feel this way and yourself, talk often with anyone here. Don't do it while you're drunk. People get the worst impression of that person.

Hope you can find some tranquility. I have for the most part!

Respectfully,

Dora

Hi Cathy,,,,hun, in the same boat as you ,,must be 13 or so years since i

last lifted a drink . So hun , sobriety, happiness , it goes hand in hand

and the good news is its waiting for you . Admitting alcoholism is the

first step forward , I remember that day /that moment like it was two

minutes ago . Get into a meeting environment and start to look for a sponsor,

thats important . Any person attached to the alcohol abuse forum will

talk to you and offer advice . Cathy, do not take a drink , its as simple as

that . Get some good nourishing food into you , for now plenty of sweet

stuff like candy bars , lots of water . Your nerves may not be the best ,

go to a doc and talk re the possability of some help there . Hun, I am an

alcoholic , people helped me to sober up and so saved my life . If you

need to I will talk to you anytime and for as long as it takes . Please believe

me ,,sobriety is waiting for you ,,luv, viv :)

Hi Cathy,

I am not an alcoholic because it seems to have run in my family on both sides so my parents and then my sister and I decided to never start drinking as a preventative measure.

Alcoholism is classified as a disease because it involves how the body processes alcohol and then moves beyond the mental desire for a drink and into the physical need making it an addiction as well much like nicotine.

This double whammy is what makes battling alcoholism so hard and why you do need support.

I have not been there because I saw my extended family and all of their problems with alcohol but because of that I do understand and am so willing to help any way that I can - I will be here for you.

Melissa mentioned cookies and hot cocoa, well I offer them to new members as a way of making them feel welcome and at home, in your case I would like to offer them as a sign that we care and welcome you to ask for our help and accept it - we will help you beat this.

Love ya,

Sally

Hi Cathy and welcome to Laura's. I see Sally has passed out the cookies and cocoa. :-) Cathy I am a recovering alchololic and know how difficult it can be. I was at dinner with my folks last week and both of them ordered wine with dinner, I resisted and had peach Ice Tea instead. Yum! Some can give it up cold turkey and others need help and support to quit. Your in the right place sis. We are all here to help you in whatever way we can. Sometimes when I get the urge I will go and exercise instead, or I will have an apple. This way I know I am doing something healthy for my body.

Suzie

Cathy hon,

If you are having difficulty with alcoholism. Please go to an AA meeting. I am sure that there are several right in your area.

Start there.

Welcome dearheart :)

We all have a hurt inner child, do you ever comfort that child and say it will be protected?

Same here.  My mind is a jumbled mess.  I'm no great philosopher, nor particularly educated.  Don't open my brain's closet, as all the junk might come tumbling out.

Its been a long day.  I had a good trip with my husband, kind of sorry I had to come home.  I mean, I love my partners, but I feel overwhelmed by the chaos at times.  It was nice being able to just drive and talk for two days, and not feel rushed at meals.  Stopped at a buffet off I-40 in Oklahoma, and I was able to nibble comfortably for two hours!  And taking a shower in a place where I don't have to bother hanging up the towels for later   Its all about the little things....

Hi @AmandaJoy Welcome, and nice to meet you! Congratulations on your Self-Affirmation!  As you've already discovered you're in great company here on this Forum.  It took me 60+ years also.   I understand your thrill and desire to proceed full-steam-ahead but that you've already realized to meter your Journey.  So, I will just end with what I tell most new Members when they arrive ... Deep breaths ... One step at a time

Hey @KayC I need another tutorial session on this place with you.  Maybe we can talk on Discord or the phone and I can share my screen and do a few messages while Asking you some questions about how this place is organized. How are you doing in the real world?? ... "real world" ???  What is this "real world" of which you speak?
    • Michelle_S
@VickySGV Ha!  Finally figured THAT out!  Though I hate to confess just how long it took me to figure out WHERE to begin typing that "@" sign.  (So I just won't confess it!  ... giggles) I am not sure how private this message to you is ... for example I was going to make a guess about your location (you say near a major earthquake fault) and while there are many places in CA which fit that description, I live near one as well. But I am not sure if being asked that in a public forum is something you want, and I don't know if I am talking publicly or privately right now.  (So, obviously, till I learn what is what, I treat EVERYTHING as public). I think Kay might have already told me about the "@" sign but I forgot ... Guess I have blonde roots ... (I'm actually a Brunette ... Grey but the box keeps me a brunette ... still the number of mistakes I make and how slow I am with learning things constantly reminds me that I must be blonde on the inside!!  ... giggles)
