Ftm Prosthetics...

Has anyone here baught from FTM prosthetics? i know one guy on here has and he's happy with his. It costs alot of money though :P I'm not sure i'm willing to pay that much for one....as of yet. I need to do more research on this before i go splashing that amount of money around. here are my questions..

  • Does the adhesive really keep it stuck in place at all times? Have you ever had any problems with this?
  • Do you have any problems with ingrowing hairs where you stick it?
  • Does it get in the way of being able to stand to pee. (I realise they are STP devices. I don't mean peeing through the packer...I mean just the general medicine spoon idea on it's own. Would it, or if you've tried get in the way of doing that?

I hope you don't mind me posting this. I'm trying to keep it as clean as poss...

I'm sure there are many other questions i want to ask but now my minds gone blank again! :P

Thanks

Matt.

Thanks for posting this topic, i'm wondering the same thing. It seems the closest we can get to the real thing as of now... perhaps even more so than the available surgeries. <_<

I'm concerned about the STP part of it as well.

I have been wondering about the medical adhesive as well. I work in the medical field and if that is what I am thinking it is.....then it has got to be hard on the skin.....and placing then adhesive in a sensitive area that I would assume would need to be shaven first...ouch!

If anyone on here has used it I am interested to hear if it does hold, how hard is it on the skin, is removing it painful, etc.

I have thought about maybe suggesting my partner try one that adheres but if removal is going to be painful or tear up his skin then it probably isnt worth it.

They sell adhesive-type strips with these prosthetics (or at least LolaJake does) that allow you to use the prosthetic and adhesive in a way that won't rip off your skin.

Also...this is proooooobably bordering on TMI, but, uh...most of the unpleasant sensitivity in that area comes from having hair there. I mean, I'm sure you're familiar with that old metaphor relating to that kind of hair? :P

And said area becomes a lot less sensitive if you shave it regularly. XD

I am sure you would have to shave the area if you are going to get it to stick well. Maybe not the whole area but at least where the prosthese needs to stick. Even with shaving the skin could still get pretty irrtated.

Any guys on here use one or have tried one? Be nice to hear how they really work.

hopefully someone will beable to answer them soon. lol

I can't buy one just yet, i'd have to save up some before i could. But just figured if i get some research done now as soon as i have the money i can just get it and know what i'm getting. :)

It doesnt look like either the FTM Prosthetics Dual or and Lola jake models allow you to urinate through them. I was talking about this with my boyfriend yesterday. He would like to try one of these but really needs to be able to urinate through it. I am thinking about sending an email to the FTM Prosthetics people to see if it can be modified so he could urinate though it.

Do you guys think that if a piece of surgeical tubing was run through the shaft and connceted to something like what the mango has that that would work to urinate though?

Yeah I think it's only the soft prosthesis that can also be used as an STP. I PM'd someone on YouTube asking about making the dual into an STP and he said he emailed the guy at the website and he said no b/c it would ruin the prosthetic, but he wants to experiment w/ putting an STP under it. =/

I think he also said they're working on making a dual that's also an STP.

Hmmmm....I think I need to email the guy who created them and ask. I dont see why a tube couldnt be run through it. I am sure it would have to be flushed daily but it sure seems like it would be possible. I have thought about seeing if it would work to kinda combine a mango and a lola jake. Then if it just messes things up we arent out a ton of money.

I believe the Lola jake can be modified into an stp, but they're so expensive that most people are reticent to risk destroying theirs if they do it wrong. There's an option where they can start the hole you'd need to make with a heated screwdriver, I think.

A couple of hundred compared to a thousand or more for the ftm prosthetic ones isnt too bad! lol None of them are cheap, but to get something without surgery that would help him feel more like the man he already is would be money well spent as far as I am concerned.

Yeah I agree. The way I think of it is it's cheaper than top surgery.

If you email him please let me know what he says, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible but as Pól said people just don't want to risk it, including the people who make them I guess.....

well, i haven't bought from this particular company, but in general there are only a few adhesives on the market and all these companies seem to use either the same or similar ones. with any adhesive really, there's always some kind of issue for people who have an oily complexion. either it won't adhere to your skin at all, for long periods of time or it will develop this 'goop' (for lack of a better word) that is essentially glue residue. and if this 'goop' develops, any chance of adhesion is out the window.

i would definitely put that into consideration before spending any money on adhesives or products that require them. although, i have heard nothing but good things from guys with non-oily complexions.

Ah. See it's these kinda things that put me off, because i have heard that one of the things that can happen to someone who goes on T is to get oily skin. I know it's maybe not teh case for all people who go on T though. but i guess maybe it's best people wait till they're on T for a while before they thing of buying one. Althought that said i'm sure it says somewhere on the site that you can wear it with a harness. Don't take my word for it on that though!

Hello @The Lake, Welcome to our forum. I’m intrigued by your introduction and would enjoy reading more about your backstory. We all have very unique journeys and yours is not one I have come across often. As you become more comfortable with our community, maybe you could share more aout how your gender identity evolved, what difficulties you confronted and endured and what some of your successes were along the way. Also, do you see yourself involved in a future transition of roles, presentation, social, physical, or something else entirely? There is never any pressure to share a thing here. So feel free to share as little or as much as you like. We are a very open-minded nonjudgmental group who enjoy learning new things from our members.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Welcome @gizgizgizzie, It’s nice to have you in the fold. We are a very diverse group so you’ll fit in just fine. Right now, society at large is getting bombarded with misinformation, bait and switch tactics, propaganda and lies so it’s no wonder no one can get it right. I don’t come out and explain things about my gender identity as much these days but when I do it’s amazing how little these people know about our transgender community in 2024.   Thanks for sharing a little about yourself. I hope to learn more about you as you become more acclimated and active within our forum.   Warmest Regards, Susan R🌷

Speaking of hair days…for me, hair has always been the part of my presentation that had the most impact on my overall view of myself. It was much worse for me earlier in my transition. I enjoy experimenting with new hair styles so once in a while, I’ll end up completely redoing my hair because it somehow reminded me of my old self. Self image is a strange yet powerful thing and it take a lot of time and effort to change it.

I am working on a solo music project and I decided a few years ago I wanted to do female lead vocals. I’ve played instrumental music most of my life and sung as a male, mostly backup and harmony though, but very little lead. I never liked my male voice. People always clocked me as female on the phone so I’ve always had a more feminine voice. A little over two years ago I started training my female voice to sing and it has been a lot of fun, though I’m still not where I want to be. Consistency is my biggest challenge.    I try to make practice fun or I don’t stick with it. So I do a lot of singing along with my favorite cover songs…I use a vocal fader, and practice with a microphone, and often just record the blend with my phone to evaluate where I’m at and see what I need to work on. If possible I find karaoke mixes on YouTube where the lead vocal is removed and sing along to that.   I’m not sure I can offer much advice, I just do a lot of listening back and adjusting my technique and practicing until I like how I sound. Just a lot of practice. It will probably take longer than you hope to get where you want to be :) High notes will be challenging but every singer has to build up the muscles and technique and breath support and stretch the vocal chords and then their range will expand. My higher notes are in tune, but often sound strained, probably because they are. Some of that is tensing up in anticipation which I need to train myself out of doing.    I think “trans voice lessons” on YouTube is one of the best channels for tips and theory. Once you’ve found your singing voice and have that relatively consistent, pretty much it’s just working on technique, styling, articulation, range, like any singer would.

I sometimes look too critically when I look in mirrors. If I’m presenting as male, I think I look too feminine. If I am presenting female then I think I look too masculine. It’s very irritating! Sometimes I think I get it down right. I guess everybody has their good and bad hair days and such, though.

https://www.hrc.org/news/reyna-hernandez-latina-trans-woman-salon-owner-and-vibrant-spirit-killed-in-washington-state   This case is unusual, in that the victim was murdered in the U.S. and her body driven all the way to Mexico, presumably to hide evidence and confuse the authorities.    May Reyna rest in peace, and her vicious killer convicted and sentenced to a very long term behind bars.   Carolyn Marie

I cooked a breaded bone-in pork chop (seared in iron skillet then into the oven) an artichoke (w/mayo) and a frozen mac n' cheese that claimed it was "The Best Mac n' Cheese" ... and it was actually pretty good.
