I open this to everyone - and it should always be that way here at Laura's.

Ahem....

Eyewear for me (see avatar) - do I need a more feminine pair of eyeglsses? Should I consider contact lenses? What about colored contact lenses?

AND

What 'is' feminine eyewear? (masculine eyewear?)

Anyone worked through this yet?

Hummmmm

I really like the eyewear that I have now, they are red tinted with flowers and vines on the side.

Sweet Lizzie,

I like what you have now, but the possibilities are endless. I first went to Lenscrafters sight and loaded a photo of myself to determine my face shape. They said it was oval, so pretty much any shape will do.

So, I went down to a store and took my prescription with me. I must have tried on 30 pairs of glasses to finally pick out what I'm wearing now. I found a girl that really got into it after I explained all about me and how serious this was, including the image I wanted when I was done.

Then, I looked for sunglasses--I found the coolest pair of patterned sunglasses you've ever seen. I put them on and thought--Thelma and Louise. They just screamed fun. Donna Jean can easily confirm this, too.

That's what I did. Happy shopping.

Love,

Becky

I like your current pair, Lizzy, but sometimes the details are in the frames and I can't see the sides of yours.

When I went to the optometrist recently I asked the girl if I could look through the cases on the "women's side."

She said to try on anything at all and was very nice about it. I must have tried on a dozen pair of ladies frames before settling on the ones I have.

To me, the difference is the shape of the frame - mine are more elongated than typical for a men's pair; and

then decoration on the side. I didn't want anything too flowery or obvious. You can get some pretty elaborate

decoration on women's frames.

I guess it depends on how much you need to present male. It seems like there are a lot variations along the

scale, kinda like the gender spectrum itself! :)

Bottom line, Lizzy, do whatever pleases you and makes you happy.

Dear Lizzy,

You have seen my glasses and I have them on in the new image that I posted in my gallery.

I took my mother to get her new glasses and while she denies that I am trans, I was able to look at all of the women's frames while they were taking measurements - she can't see anything without her glasses!

She got her glasses back on and I looked at the UNisex frames - I then went to the men's frames and picked a couple of pairs that I liked that were also in the women's and unisex racks - the silver for everyday and the brown for the sunglasses - they work for either presentation.

Love ya,

Sally

Lizzy,

You look so much like an Aunt of mine when she was younger.... The two of you could've been twins....

The glasses look good on you, almost like a pair my Aunt wore. But do some trying on of differnt frames from the ladies side....before they dialate your eyes :P. Im sure you will find something that will be very stylish on you.

Dear Lizzy,

Your glasses look good on you, its always good to try differemnt frames to spcie up your outfit, mood.....

Contacts are great too, I wear them most of the time so I can put on those fashion sunglasses.

Recently, I start trying circle lens, kind of a cosmetic contact lens come with different colors and diameter. They make my eyes looks bigger and girly watery :)

Oh, yeah! They are a total gas, Lizzy...And when Becky had them on and was driving us to get some food, I was hoping that she wasn't going to drive us over a cliff!

I'm going to watch this thread, too...

I have two pair of glasses, both prescription....one clear and the other sunglasses...

But, they are both aviator style glasses..

I still get "Have a nice day ladies!" while wearing them...

But, I want something way more feminine!

Your glasses look fine. Maybe if you can afford it you could get one of those cat eye glasses with the rhinestones on them. Those are the only distinctly feminine eye glasses I can think of. A girl in my English class has a pair. I don't think you really need to change though and it would seem kind of a waste considering the cost of glasses.

Maui Jim. Oh you mean eyeglasses not sunglasses. I vote for contact lenses. I wore glasses for a year when I was in eighth grade. I could never go back. Despite all of the technological achievement in optics, there is absolutely no comparison to the optical quality of contact lenses.

I don't even own a pair of glasses anymore. I wear contacts eighteen hours a day and never had an issue.

things of note I have discovered: optometrists push Acuview 2 lenses for some reason. I have tried them on several occasions and never found them to produce a clear image. None of the daily lenses or week long lenses are any good. The same goes for any lens that you are supposed to be able to sleep in. But these are just my observations.

Regarding the masculine feminine lens thing: I don't know. However if you buy them online, the are often marked in the summary of the lenses.

I wear masculine glasses and they should disappear within a couple weeks. I found out they make progressive contact lenses and that is the way I plan to go. I figure it's a viable way to go while in transition. Then in the next year or two when I can use my insurance again, then go with decorative female lenses.

hi vidanjali !! i know exactly what you mean, i do have a few trans and otherwise queer friends nearby me but currently i present as 'cis' for obvious reasons so it's not all that easy for me to reach out and find that kind of community (though i do love my irls!!)   but yeah, i get this weird paranoia that if i come out to too many people it'll end up tracing back to my folks (not everyone knows my family is homophobic and being outed is a big fear of mine)   but im sooo happy to know that that feeling was just dysphoria !! i thought i was going crazy for a minute !!.   thanks so much for welcoming me, and you have a great day too !!

hi susan!! thats very much how i feel !! i have no issue explaining my gender or educating other people on transness but it feels like im talking to a brick wall of misinformation even if they are well-meaning and accepting people ! but thank you anyways for welcoming me here !!

This is a fairly long video by Philosophy Tube,  (Abigail Thorne)  Discussing some of Judith Buttler's work and related stuff.   I wasn't sure where to post it, so if there is a better place, move it.

I have a fantastic therapist. She is so caring she has helped me open up so much. Unfortunately, She is ending her internship. Do to a hiring freeze at the VA she isn't going just go right into a position there.  My Endo is out of the Denver VA hospital. I haven't talked with her in probably 2 yrs. I am  looking to transfer providers and get back to seeing a GYN at the Cheyenne VA.

Shopping at the mall today and helping out at Torrid I excused myself to the restroom. The manager told me the restroom at JC Penny was much closer (I normally use the family restroom in the food court).   Upon arrival I discovered that JC Penny doesn't have a family restroom, it's either or.   The men's room was occupied with customers, and me going in with large breasts, long hair, and makeup was going to cause a stir, so I opted for the woman's room instead. I was the only one in the woman's room.    Texas state law does state that your must use the restroom that matches your chromosomes, and it's a misdemeanor to not do so, but it seemed to be the best choice (I really needed to go!)

I had some guy grab my butt on the ship.  I don't know how "real" it was, but I did not enjoy that at all.  Also did not enjoy the hazing I saw other people going through.  One person can only do so much to stop that when there are 10 people doing it.

I pulled this out of a stack of old military mementos yesterday.  I guess I didn't realize how cool this one was because I did so much of this kind of thing back then.

This internet video thing is pretty amazing.  I'd call it Zoom, but there are other platforms out there.  I prefer Zoom over Teams because Zoom puts me and everyone else in the same picture.  I like seeing the whole group in one shot.  Teams of course is about having so many people that you can't get them in the shot, or is it?   Just saying that I have never met any of my counselors in person.  Doctors, of course I have and I am lucky there.  They are 3.5 miles from my house as is the main transgender surgery place in town.  I've been doing virtual visits with the medical doctors lately though.  It feels like once I became steady state, they don't need to interact with me physically that much.  I have enjoyed going into their office in my nice clothing.
