Hello everyone. My name is Rachael, as you have already seen. I'm 28. I'm pretty easy going. I love to chat and get into conversations with all sorts of people. I have been trying to find an open minded TG forum for a while, and have tried several but haven't had any luck. The last one I was at I got attacked by one of the members because he didn't like the way I talked, so I finally got angry and deleted my account there. I'm hoping this place will be better. Please prove me right.

Welcome to the forums here at Laura's, Rachel.

I am so glad that you have found us and I hope that we live up to your expectations.

Why don't you come on in and have a seat here by the fire while I get you some hot cocoa and a plate of my fresh from the oven cookies - kick those shoes off and wiggle your toes a bit - Donna Jean will be along pretty soon and if she sees people still wearing their shoes she just won't believe that you are really planing on staying.

Take a minute to read the rules, there is a link at the top of almost every page - so they must be important - they are, we are a moderated sight so we keep this place safe for everyone and PG-13.

So far I have seen a dramatic difference in people here from where I have been before. And that's a very good thing. I'm glad you guys moderate this forum so close. It seems to be the only way to keep it civil from what my experiences have been. I think I will enjoy my time here a lot.

BTW:

What kind of cookies were those? LOL

Welcome! Yes we watch things here - we are beatup enough from the non-community. There is no reason for someone who is the same to attrack anybody on a forum! So you will be fine here.

I didn't think to do this before I hit submit on my last post, but I'm kind of new to the Transgender scene. I only came out about a week and a half ago, and only to 2 people. Here on these forums those of you that have been out for a long time use a lot of abbreviations. Like HRT, which I believe is Hormone Replacement Therapy. But there a ton that I have seen around that I have no idea what they mean. I'm kind of embarassed to ask this but, what is the best way to find out what they mean without looking stupid?

You can ask anything, anything at all, and no one will judge you :)

When I first arrived some people were talking about there scores. They were saying "I got a 450", "I got a 200" etc. I had no idea what they were talking about. So, feeling absolutely stupid, I asked. Well everyone here politely told me that they were referring to the COGIATI test whichis an online test to help assess one's gender identity... (I got a 250 :) )

Yes, with every community there are acronyms and mnemonics that the community takes for granted.

So, as part of your initiation into our family, here are some abbreviations with their definitions.

HRT - Hormone Replacement Therapy

SRS - Sex Reassignment surgery

GRS - Gender Reassignment Surgery (means the same as SRS)

FFS - Feminizing Facial Surgery

COGIATI - Combined Gender Identity And Transsexuality Inventory (sounds impressive, but it is really benign :) )

RLE - Real Life Experience

RLT - Real Life Test

GT - Gender Therapist

GG - Genetic Girl

MTF - Male To Female

FTM - Female To Male

GID - Gender Identity Disorder

SOC - Standards Of Care

There are more, but I can't think of them right now.

      hi vidanjali !! i know exactly what you mean, i do have a few trans and otherwise queer friends nearby me but currently i present as 'cis' for obvious reasons so it's not all that easy for me to reach out and find that kind of community (though i do love my irls!!)   but yeah, i get this weird paranoia that if i come out to too many people it'll end up tracing back to my folks (not everyone knows my family is homophobic and being outed is a big fear of mine)   but im sooo happy to know that that feeling was just dysphoria !! i thought i was going crazy for a minute !!.   thanks so much for welcoming me, and you have a great day too !!

      hi susan!! thats very much how i feel !! i have no issue explaining my gender or educating other people on transness but it feels like im talking to a brick wall of misinformation even if they are well-meaning and accepting people ! but thank you anyways for welcoming me here !!

      My therapist is awesome to me.Same with my HRT specialist as well which the VA pays for it

      I have a fantastic therapist. She is so caring she has helped me open up so much. Unfortunately, She is ending her internship. Do to a hiring freeze at the VA she isn't going just go right into a position there.  My Endo is out of the Denver VA hospital. I haven't talked with her in probably 2 yrs. I am  looking to transfer providers and get back to seeing a GYN at the Cheyenne VA.

      Shopping at the mall today and helping out at Torrid I excused myself to the restroom. The manager told me the restroom at JC Penny was much closer (I normally use the family restroom in the food court).   Upon arrival I discovered that JC Penny doesn't have a family restroom, it's either or.   The men's room was occupied with customers, and me going in with large breasts, long hair, and makeup was going to cause a stir, so I opted for the woman's room instead. I was the only one in the woman's room.    Texas state law does state that your must use the restroom that matches your chromosomes, and it's a misdemeanor to not do so, but it seemed to be the best choice (I really needed to go!)

      I had some guy grab my butt on the ship.  I don't know how "real" it was, but I did not enjoy that at all.  Also did not enjoy the hazing I saw other people going through.  One person can only do so much to stop that when there are 10 people doing it.

      This internet video thing is pretty amazing.  I'd call it Zoom, but there are other platforms out there.  I prefer Zoom over Teams because Zoom puts me and everyone else in the same picture.  I like seeing the whole group in one shot.  Teams of course is about having so many people that you can't get them in the shot, or is it?   Just saying that I have never met any of my counselors in person.  Doctors, of course I have and I am lucky there.  They are 3.5 miles from my house as is the main transgender surgery place in town.  I've been doing virtual visits with the medical doctors lately though.  It feels like once I became steady state, they don't need to interact with me physically that much.  I have enjoyed going into their office in my nice clothing.
