Ring Sizes

Is there a difference between men and woman ring sizes?

http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy183/I...er/100_4865.jpg

I've been trying to replace that, since it's rather feminine, but I feel weird not wearing a ring.

Anyway, I can't seem to find my size. when I got that the person at the store said it was a 9.

Every 9 i've tried on except one is just a little too loose.

Is it the brand i'm looking at, is there usually a difference, or was the one I got mis-sized?

Juuuust wondering.

My understanding is ring size is for everyone. Rings are different in band width and sometimes in the way they are made. Also if you are on T or E you may be changing. My old male 'ring finger' size was an 11. I wear a 10 now, and its soon to be a 9 1/2 apparently. Muscle loss plus fat redistributiion? BUT some rings I try on seem to be sized a bit off. Plus a womans ring may have a very small band.

Like shoes, take aim at a size - also try up and down. And if that isnt confusing enough, on hormones (HRT anyway) I sometimes have a slight temporary swelling - or water retention I guess (I cycle my progesterone). So a good way to know is to have a ring you know that fits. If it is snug, buy a new one that is snug. If it is loose buy a new one that is loose. It doesn't have to be for the same finger.

I hope this helps.

Defiantly not on hormones... Which is causing issues but not the thread for that, so moving on :)

I was under the impression the two were the same size unlike shoe sizes [which in my experiences, the 2 sizes up for girls shoes doesn't work. and yes i base my shoe size off the guys shoes]

Does a wider band make it looser normally?

Several months ago, I went with my male partner to have our ring fingers sized, and the sales representative used the same size measurer (what do you call it?) for both of us.

Still, wide-band rings do fit differently than thin-band rings, and there is even variation within a size. My ring size is 4.75 (arg), but they had three size 5 of the ring I wanted... Two were too loose, one was perfect. The sales person said that a "size 5" can be 4.75 to 5.25, like a "size 7.5" could be anywhere between 7.25 to 7.75.

So complicated! Hang in there, though-- if I can find a ring, you can too. :)

I suppose, that if a men's ring were a thicker band, then it's probably slightly beveled, perhaps slightly more than a thinner band. that being the case, the centre of the ring where it's slightly wider, would be bigger, so maybe that makes it feel more lose, because a lower percentage of the ring's surface is gripping your finger.

But simple thought have to stacked the rings of top of each other to make sure they're definitely the same size?

Stupid simple thought... Why did I not think of that?

*facepalm*

I didn't know one 'size' could vary by 1/2 a size though. maybe that's why, just kept finding the ones that were actually a little bigger

Ring sizes SHOULD be the same for both men and women. However, rings do have to follow the laws of physics, meaning that the temperature will affect the size of the ring.
