I know the pic sucks, but it is the only pic of me that I have. It's about 8-10 years old, but that is generally what I look like. Just add tattoos and piercings. I still have long hair, but I'm clean shaven now. I just don't look femenine at all.

Hey, Rachael....

Thanks for the pix...

Seriously, Dear...you have very good features..you definitely have what you need to work with.

HRT will take you a long way!

So, you were a jarhead?

LOL...well, I should put a pic of me in 'Nam sitting in my plane out on the ramp at DaNang...

I'll bet that no one would of been able to picture me now!

You do know that we have a number of vets on the forums!

You are slim and your face will do fine...you'll be surprised!

HUGGS!

Dee Jay, is that the photo I keep hearing about where someone captured the entire plane and you just show up as a little speck against the plane.

And Rachael

You'll look just fine with a good hair style and a little makeup. :P Dee Jay's right you have wonderful features. ;)

That would be the one Jean - the other one is of her full length, on stage with a guitar covering over half of her face.

Actually you look pretty good Rachael - not too many problem areas and none of them major.

Love ya,

Well I'm asking for help here. Which ones do you see as problem areas so I can try to work on it?

Well, Honey......

Eyebrows...something that doesn't cost any money and you can do yourself...thin them out and arch them...look at some pix to get an idea...

Hrt will fill out the cheeks and put some fat behind some of your face....

And ditch the beard......

I already said that I started keeping clean shaven in the original post. I planned on getting my eyebrows done hopefully this weekend.

But thanks for your help anyway.

Don't worry, you'll do great on HRT. Your features are not particularly feminine but they are soft enough to not need FFS after HRT.

That would be the one that is a full length group photo with her wearing a hat, sun glasses and burnt cork on her face - Viet-Nam.

Unlike so many of us apparently Donna Jean was in witness protection before she began her transition - no images exist!

I took a closer look at your pictures and I do not see any severe problem areas you should be able to pass with nothing more than HRT and confidence.

Love ya,

Seriously - you wanted serious help - so seriously.

Eyebrows - already discussed! Nothing feminizes your face quicker! Get them shaped - learn how to maintain them (HIGH MAINTENANCE -yikes)

Start electrolysis on your beard

Go to a really good hairstylist - out to them, get advice on the hair to grow it out to pony tail length (if you havent) but in a way that it stays thick (no hair damage). You can then pass male or female mode easier.

Work with your make-up. Get advice from a make-up specialist (off hours, you will have to out - no big deal - they like the $$$ they get from selling stuff to you)

Learn to apply concealer so as to accent your feminine features (you have pretty eyes for example) and minimize your more masculine features. Don't try to find your own shade - go to a MAX representative - (usually one in the big stores) and they don't even question why, they just work to find the shade you need - its weird, because with the right shade you won't even look like you have concealer on.

Learn daytime make-up tricks (very subtle - and can really make your eyes "pop" and be expressive. Also learn full makeup - especially cheek blushing which is really tricky - again - professional help is good - though you can experiment at home

And finally - work on a woman's smile - and learn the proper way to apply lipstick! We just starting always overdo it. And you need to find a good subtle shade for your compexion.

Another finally? The right jewelry - the right earrings - pierced ears already? need to do that.

Enough? I don't think its good to comment on any problem areas, see what HRT and skillful woman's application of makeup can do. That's all there is, outside extremely expensive FFS. I would rather spend my $$$ on SRS - any fine tuning on the face can come later.

Understand that the facial characteristics of men and women overlap considerably. I think you fit easily in that overlap.

Hope this helps!

Lizzy

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.

Happiness for me comes from being cognizant of the things that make me feel good.   Sunshine.   Pandering to my inner woman.   Knowing that some people in my life really 'know' me.   Vacations, and Eggs Benedict at an alfresco cafe.   My wife and I being telepathic.   Grandchildren.   Music.   Wine!

True.  Every trans death is not a hate crime. There is so much hate expressed by some people, that we kinda get to expect it.

Hello & welcome, giz! Your post makes me remember how excited I was to join here too. I also had queer friends at the time I joined, but any of my trans friends lived a long distance away. So most local queer friends are gay & I felt uncomfortable coming out to them bc I couldn't assume they'd understand genderqueerness. So it was a thrill to join here and immediately have access to do many wonderful, genuine, kind & thoughtful friends-to-be.   Are you saying you're concerned that if you come out to your queer friends that somehow your parents will find out?     My love, I just want to affirm that that's not a weird dysphoria. It's just dysphoria. And we definitely get it. You're in good company here!     Look forward to seeing you around here & getting to know you. I shoot for androgynous appearance as well, leaning towards masculine.   Hope you're having a splendid day!

Listening to a YouTube mix for me and this song came up and I immediately fell in love again and just want to play music with like minded musicians playing OUR music and feel the joy and fulfillment even if no one else gets it. I love to fall into the music....

Funny.....   The day-centre transportation director told me yesterday morning that I was to receive an award, my picture on the website, etc... for having won the billiards tournament (I knew better).   Later that afternoon he returns to "shake my hand" and tell me, "thanks for participating."   I could have told him that was all I would receive earlier. I'm not well liked by management.
