I Met With Va Psychiatrist About Being Transgender Today.

So, I went to the VA today and everything went remarkably smooth. I sat with the psychiatrist and after we went through my history and such we came today. So, I took a deep breath and told him I'm transgendered. He asked me what that meant to me. I explained to him my understanding and answered his further questions. I told him about the hormones I am taking from Mexico.

He agreed with me that I need to have a Dr. follow my hormone use and suggested I see my primary care doctor. He also agreed that it would be helpful to speak to a psychologist and would make the consult after finding the right one for me. He is new to the VA and need to research the issue.

Overall, he was very respectfull and asked appropriate questions and self corrected his own choice of words as we said goodbye. He was the second person that I have came out to and I was so anxious about the appointment that I took a nap for four hours when I got home it was so emotional draining. My appointment with my primary doctor is on Fri and I will have to do it all over again. I expect it will get easier each time. At least I hope it will.

That sounds like it went great. It's always surprising (in a good way) when people are that good about it- and more people are. It's really nice that doctors and such, who are really important ot us during this time, can be so cool about it. Especially since he was new and might not have had any experience iwht it.

Honey - make sure you go USA legal with the hormones - and get balanced and monitored by a physician! DANGEROUS!

You cannot transition if the illegal stuff kills or cripples you.

And a regular physician usually will not prescrie without a letter from a therapist. They want to CYA!

That's extremely good news! I'm a vet, too and it's great to hear that the VA is helping someone out that is Trans...

But, Deaheart....Please get a REAL prescription for your HRT and get monitored...the HRT can do serious damage to one's liver if your dosage is wrong!

Hi Sweetie

I am glad that you are seeing a therapist now Good for you hon.

Please make sure that you undergo HRT properly and legally (I am sure that your therapist has talked about this with you). You can seriously jeapordize your transitioning and your health if you attempt self-HRT.
