Where To Get Electrolysis In Columbia, Sc

Hey everyone,

I have started looking for a place to get my electrolysis done. The problem I have is that South Carolina does not regulate electrolysis. I went onto Google and just searched Electrolysis Columbia SC, to see who pops up. Since I don't know any persons that have gotten Electrolysis here. From what I see from that list, I have one that is done by a RN Nurse, and the others don't state any type of qualifications. Because of this, I was wondering what everybody's opinion on my choices. Also I'm making a list of questions to ask. Such as what equipment they use, and what settings its on. Also about there hours of operation and pricing. Are there any other questions that I should ask as well?

Wow, Hon......

I live in Ohio where electrolysis is regulated by the state board of health....

You can pull them up on the net and find out everything that you need to know..

Sorry, don't know about your state...

Heck, I would expect all states to be regulated because electrolysis is an invasive procedure!

My electrolgist is also a RN and knows a lot about the human body...that's a big plus in my book...

Oh, and also ask if they use a numbing cream for top lip work....

Good Luck, Honey...

HUGGS!

Louisiana monitors electrolysis - the tech muct be licensed - so I don't know.

Mine is a retired nurse - and has an autoclave in her shop. She used gloves and an eyeshield with a magnifying lens. She charges $55 / hr - and works hard the entire session. I am her very first transperson, but she is very sweet to me.

Hope this helps

There's a great forum specifically for permanent hair removal (electrolysis and laser): hairtell.com. I would search the forum for recommendations of electrologists in your area or ask for advice there. It's a very trans friendly place. It's moderated by my electrologist, James Walker.

If you can't find any specific recommendations there... is there a support group for TG folks in your area? Others trans women are a great resource for recommendations. Find someone in your area who has completed hair removal and is happy with their results and find out who they used.

Sadly regulation does little or nothing to guarantee that the electrologist is any good. And even certifications like CPE and so forth don't necessarily mean much. Word of mouth from satisfied _finished_ customers is the best approach.

Thanks for the link. And there is no support group in Columbia! Which makes me mad when I think of the local GLBT center we have in Columbia, because they have groups for everyone else but us. Makes you wonder why they even have the T.

Hi, I just foudn this post searching for resources in Columbia SC. I am a 37 year old MTF and have been on HRT for close to five months, just started laser hair removal, and was looking for a TG friendly electrolysis in Columbia. This area appears to be a TG wasteland as I have had to travel to get what I need. I'd really like to find someone locally and was wondering if you found anything.

Wow, ok lets go 3 for 3 here!!! I'm also in Columbia and have been trying to find a good electrolysist nearby for about 6 months. I've crossed out all of the ones in the phone book (at least whichever phonebook I have). I've searched on hairtell without any luck. Currently I'll be taking care of my Electrolysis in Charlotte when I go to see my gender therapist. A few weeks ago a friend of mine got with his doctor in Irmo and she has agreed to work with my counselor for my HRT and general medical needs. She also does laser so I'm going to have two or three laser sessions to knock out the dark stuff before starting electro.

The Harriet Hancock Center setup a bit different. The center itself and SC Pride are two different organizations. The center is publicly available for any group to have meetings at no cost. So the center itself does hold any support groups, they are all hosted by the community.

That being said, they just formally added Transgender to their mission a little over a month ago and everyone there is willing to help any way they can (even if it's something small). I've been volunteering there for a few weeks now and have been wanting to get a group started. I'm there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6pm-9pm both of you are welcome to stop by, 3 people would be a great place to start!!! Feel free to message me if you need to.

Let's make it 4 for 4! Has anyone made any progress? I'm new to the area and also looking for electrolysis as well as a psychologist and support group. Any support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Brandi

Actually the bill seems to be so thoroughly confusing that I doubt that enforcement is even possible.  It could however incite vigilante style actions.  A false accusation against a "looks challenged" Cis woman is very likely to happen early on.  So what will happen in the case of those situations?  I have a script in mind over the sad average looking daughter of one of the legislators getting tangled into one of those situations.  I don't know whether it would be a comedy or a tragedy at the minute.

I don't know yet. I'm sure there is going to be a big crowd. I also would have to keep up with the kids and probably won't enjoy myself mostly.

I can understand that. My Keurig is used for hot water mostly and when my mom comes. I mostly use a regular coffee maker. I have had that for 5 years now. I had a Bunn but it didn't last long. I also have a French press and rarely use that. I would love to get a cappuccino maker but that is for later on. Starbucks is getting expensive. My kids favorite thing there is the cake pops. I found out that Walmart Neighborhood Market has them. Typical me getting off topic. lol

After many years in denial, I have finally acknowledged my femininity. After quite a long life, so much time has been wasted. Now I feel I am too old to enjoy the freedom I now feel. All I can contribute to those who need to embrace their true gender, be BRAVE and don,t waste time!

Well, welcome M.A. Several of my now grown kids were involved in theater in school.  And one is now a graphic designer.

Wow what a busy day today.  Clearly the summer crowd is coming into town.  Doesn’t hurt that we have a PGA event here.  It is limited to 100 players. But the spectators is where the crowd is.   i alone more than doubled my usual sales.     we keep hearing thunderstorms however they are staying just west of us for now. The storms in western Tennessee right now are supposed to be here in the morning.

Edit: Latest album is called "Drumless". My bad. The name of their tour is Drummer.

My gen z cousin & her gf were visiting the last few days. We are a very, very small contingent of queer members of our family & we stick together. She and her gf introduced me to G Flip. They recently attended a concert and said it was the best concert ever. They were playing G Flip in the car and I was impressed by the vocals, the lyrics, the influences, and the percussion (G is also a drummer). I love a nonbinary vocalist (not that we get to hear so many...yet...) because the freedom from gender performance shines forth. I could hear influences from many styles of music I loved in the 90s, but all blended together in a joyfully percussive way. G Flip is rad! I would post a link to some tracks or an album, but there are explicit lyrics which would go against community rules - you can easily search youtube yourself if you're interested; their latest album is called "Drummer". But here is a picture of G who is serving us gorgeous nonbinary vintage Axl Rose!

Welcome, @MAN8791. I relate to this so much. I'm roughly the same age as you, afab & nonbinary. For decades, I beat myself up for being a "broken" girl/woman. And I tried my darndest for many of those years to perform woman successfully. While outwardly I may have seemed "a success", inwardly the effort and dysphoria caused me so much anxiety, panic, and depression that it eventually became unsustainable. For me, the first step was letting go of identifying as "broken". Next, I allowed myself to be however I am. And very rapidly I felt better - in fact, initially I felt ecstatic. The door was open for me to really learn about self-love and therefore love itself.

Well, the counter space in the kitchenette is pretty Limited. But also cost, and usefulness. I guess she is mostly right, and it isn't really important.
