Does It Seems Like There Are More Trans Shows On

Hello Everyone,

Does it seem that trans shows are increasing or is it just me noticing them more.

Could it be that trans is gaining favor with mainstream thinking.

I sure hope so, I just love feeling that perhaps societies views might be shifting a little.

Shows like, Transform Me, Trantasia and Sex lies and gender are putting it right out under everyones noses. This makes me feel a little proud and more possible that more will come out and not have to keep these feelings bottled up.

There must be something to it if it's on the national geographic channel.

I just love watching Transform Me, those girls are so pretty and together it gives me more hope than ever.

So what do you think, are times changing or is it just that I am becoming more involved and noticing it more.

Love ,Chandra

That's great question, Dear!

I guess that we need some hard numbers to crunch, though...

For instance....

I hardly ever remember seeing a white Geo Tracker.....

Until I bought one!

Now I see them everywhere....

Are there really more out there since I bought one?

It's still all on LOGO- but I think you're right that there are more. There's also a "Im pregnant..." with two trans people that was apparently tastefully done.

I would guess various media are picking up on it, because of the stories that have appeared.

I think to a general public or more likely to programming executives, they see a sort of sexy voyeuristic side to it. And with the sad story of the sportswriter commiting suicide, there's a more national angle that can be played up.

I looked into Trantasia and basically, it's a series that was done several years ago and is now being shown on LOGO, at least from what I can figure out. Since RuPaul's DragRace is beginning to wind down, the executives might have felt that putting another ts/tg show on would keep the interest up.

There was that TV movie several years ago with Tom Wilkenson (?) who went through MTF transition and that had some reviews and discussion from the mainstream media.

I guess we'll just have to see if any of this leads to more realistic portrayals or goes in the other direction to more voyeuristic type shows.

And anyway, I think LOGO is starting to realized there is more the LGBT culture than just LG and sometimes B. Took them long enough.

Tom Wilkenson...

Oddly enough an English actor who played an American husband who came out as Transsexual...

The movie is called "Normal" and my therepist suggested that my wife and I sit and watch it together...

I bought it from Amazon and we've watched it at least 4 times in 2 years....

Can't keep from crying during it...

Midwest family about my age ....He comes out and everything that happens in short order...

Very good....

I understand that many therapists recommend couples watch it..

I feel there are more shows on TV - the documentary type. The BBC has always had a few.

And there are more regular and made for TV movies. Opera and Dr. Oz have transguests now, especially children.

We transsexual are a mystery to most people. It has suddenly come to the attention of the outside community that maybe being trans is NOT a life style choice or a sexual orientation. There are also more transpeople ot as activists, and more visible transpeople in public. So maybe in another hundred years....

I mentioned this some time ago, but now seems a good time to bring it up again.

About 33 or 34 years ago there was a TV talk show host by the name of Lou Gordon. (He was out of Detroit, but syndicated nationally) This was long before Oprah, Donahue, Maury, Jenny, etc. He was rather brash, but not 'in your face' or going for the cheezy stunts like Springer. Unfortunately, he got sick and died and for a few months his wife bravely tried to keep it going. I caught one of the shows and she was interviewing trans-sexuals mostly MTF, and for the first time ever, I saw 'normal' people. These were not people trying to flaunt their difference as so many shows have encouraged some to do so since, there were at least three or four who appeared to be living regular lives (or trying to), and you could see they were a little uncomfortable being interviewed.

But what an eye-opener in the days before the internet, and everything since. I knew what I personally felt wasn't a 'perversion' and for the first time, here was a national show with real people coping with their daily lives as they tried to rectify the biological with the emotional and mental.

That was a long time ago.

And like we have mostly all acknowledged, because of the 'sex' in ts, it is still considered too often in a voyeuristic frame of reference. But, hopefully, maybe over-exposure this time will bring eventual 'ennui', which often precedes tolerance.

I agree with you, and I consider myself lucky to have a realistic understanding that I’m never going to have my dream body. I take comfort in the fact that women come in all shapes and sizes. I compare myself to the women in my family at the age I am now, and see that resemblance. It may be easier to transition into an Auntie or Grandmotherly figure once you reach a certain age.    Hugs,   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

I’m happy that I’m moving closer to @Betty K although I don’t have a problem getting my point across when defending our LGBTQIA community.

Once I start mowing the lawn I’ll be listening to Outlaw Country on SIRUS XM on my noise canceling headphones. I often wonder if drowning out the motor noise and replacing it with your favorite tunes is really protecting your ears? Rock on with new song writers that aren’t a part of the Big Corporate Music Grinder.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

@Heather Shay, you know me, I am a total crybaby. My emotions flow right through me.

Is it a thing to not want to be transgender? Absolutely. I’ve heard trans folk say many times that they wished they were born cis. I find it heartbreaking and I’m hugely relieved I don’t feel that way, but I know some people do.   You don’t need body dysphoria to be trans. You don’t need any dysphoria. You just need to feel a mismatch between your gender identity and your sex assigned at birth. Of course, whether or not you should transition is a different question, but some people do so without body dysphoria. In my case, my dysphoria is mainly social, though I do feel some body dysphoria.   British writer Paris Rees said that maybe if society weren’t so transphobic she wouldn’t have felt the need to transition. I wonder about that sometimes too, but I find it impossible to know.   Can I make one suggestion w/r/t therapists? I agree with Vicky’s suggestion, but I hope you will avoid anyone claiming to practise “exploratory therapy”, and if you start feeling that a therapist is trying to “cure” you of your gender that you will find someone else. The affirmative model of care, contrary to what some anti-trans campaigners would have you believe, simply means that the clinician takes your own view of your gender seriously. This is crucial, imo, if you are to discover your own identity. No-one can know if you are trans but you, but it sure helps to have someone knowledgeable to discuss it with.

Good morning everyone,    Parker has been walked, fed and watered. He’s now checking to make sure the backyard doesn’t have any squirrels in it. The largest squirrel is on an overhanging branch chirping at him. The other sounds of the neighborhood include a far off in the distance interstate highway, that is drowned out by bird songs claiming the feeders are full. We still don’t have any cicadas in our area yet. The coffee pot is finishing up so I’ll be scrolling through the threads with thumb swipes, and not replying until I drink the first cup. Today is the pick of the week according to the local weather person. So I’ll be mowing the lawn once the morning dew has lifted.    I hope you have a wonderful day.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

You might need adjustment. I think fatigue might be something you discuss with your endo or doctor or NP.
