My Spanish is almost usable - grin:

translation: My grandmother and I were kindred souls. We were really the same person in many ways. I believe she would be proud of her new granddaughter.

Your poem - so well done! And I am Anglo - but I would also be honored to be a mujer mexicana orgullosa! The Mexican people I know are such a loving, passionate people! Born in San Antonio - I feel I am an honorary Latino! Please know I was deeply moved!

San Antonio? As in the Tejano band called the Texas Tornados? OMG! I saw them with the original line up including Flaco Jimenez (R.I.P.)!

Yes Tejano! I was a good friend of the second guitarist of Sonny and the Sunglows (long time ago!). But I was gone by the time of the real crossover of the Tejano music - Selena! I did see her at the S.A. Riverwalk Theater way before she was famous - beautiful, sexy, talented - un BONITA CHICITA! (one beautiful girl - affectionate connotation)

I have all her music! Tragedy of the most horrendous tipe - her murder! DANG DANG DANG

And Angie is a San Antonian - southsider like me - but more central (Harlingen I think) - I grew up in the southeast part (Highlands).

I LOVE our Mexican-American culture! Especially the maneras familiares (family ways) - be proud!

I am Chicana. While many non-tejano mexicans don't consider tejanos to be Mexican because there is a heavier anglo influence on tejano culture (i.e. the influence with american country music). I think its beautiful.
