Maine Commission Moves To Ban Gender Specific Bathrooms

Critics seem especially concerned about the mixing of genders in bathrooms and locker rooms. The commission's proposal reads: "Transgender students must be allowed access to the bathrooms that correspond to their gender identity or expression or, if they prefer, to existing single-stall bathrooms."

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but I doubt many people here read foxnews.com; I only do because I'm a masochist.

Oh, and if you don't want to get angry, don't look at the comments. Seriously, don't. The ones on foxnation.com are worse, but these ones are still pretty irritating.

Without students being obligated to provide something to prove they are actually transgendered in order to gain entrance to the other restrooms, the proposal would allow nontrans individuals to take advantage of the system to do... things they shouldn't be. As it currently is, it wouldn't work. The single-stall restroom thing is fine though.

What's wrong with two people of the same, opposite or whatever gender or sex being in the same rest room?

That drives me crazy.....

I mean.....it's what every living being on earth does everyday along with suckling babies..

It's the most natural of natural things in existance...

Why does it have to be such a controversy?

As long as there's some privacy of a stall.....*sigh*

Well

I see the trend. Many restrooms in New Orleans now have the double male/female signs - which means 'either.' Its more convenient anyway - less waiting.

I understand Europe restrooms are neutral.

SO BE IT!

Yes.......

And as a rule, females take a little more time in the restroom...

I've been to music concerts where the men's room line was moving smoothly and the Ladies line had seemingly stopped...

It just takes longer...there's more to do!

Women would begin going into the men's room without a care in the world as to what the men were doing and use the stalls!

As a building designer? Weird thinking for some of you - consider this - here is how it works - same number of 'stations' for males and females plus add one on the womens side. (like two wcs and three urinals, men - six wc , females)

[A wc is the polite word for toilet = water closet] -

BUT in the larger application - it gets larger for the women's side (like churches, stadiums and theaters). Women have to disrobe a bit - also tend to take longer to wash up, when using the bathroom. Plus men can use a urinal in about 10 seconds.

Now that I use the women's restroom (female mode) as much as the male (male mode) - I see a few more factors - mainly women often have children in tow... they often ask each other for help (toilet paper, tissues, personal hygine items) which never happens in a men's room.

Unisex restrooms, in my opinion, would require the following changes:

General - they would have to be kept reasonably clean. The stall would have to have definate locks, and they would have to be designed to prevent seeing into the gaps from either direction - especially the doors.

Men - men would have to use a specially enclosed urinal area.

It would probably still be better to have a men's wash up area separate from a woman's as women carry purses, packages, wraps, and kids - needing more counter space.

Women - women would lose a lot of visitation priviledges - as there are conversations in the women's rooms that are very personal.

okay

Smaller restrooms - easy! Larger restrooms, say for 10 or more people - less likely to be unisex anytime soon.

Yeah... Because the "women's" sign is actually a magic ward that prevents everyone who doesn't either have an F on their birth certificate or a note from their therapist from using it. Men hang out in women's rooms to assault people already- and it's probably easier than if they were a mixed thing. A man hanging out in the bathroom is suspicious no matter where you are (a woman might be as well- but she's more likely to be fixing her makeup or something).

In a mixed bathroom- your just as likely to have the next person come in be a man who notices said suspicious behavior and calls him on it as to have the next person be a woman who gets assaulted. A man hanging out just to assault the next hapless female would be putting himself in a much greater risk in a unisex bathroom than one where he can be 99.99999% certain that the next person to enter will be a woman.

Smaller restrooms - easy! Larger restrooms, say for 10 or more people - less likely to be unisex anytime soon.

Places that need larger restrooms generally have the resources to put in a unisex bathroom as well. Most places choose to anyways these days- it's easier for parents and people who are disabled (usually the disabled cubicle is way at the end- rather than just having to open the door).

Mall? Unisex ("Family") bathroom as well. Airports? Unisex option. Convention Center? Unisex option. Lowes? Unisex option.

If you need a large restroom- often they put in a unisex bathroom right next to them. That way people who have limited mobility or have kids in tow don't have to deal with trying to navigate a busy restroom or waiting in line. Bonus: People like us don't have to deal with the hassle of being harassed just for taking a whiz.

While I understand "all" news organizations have their biases, it seems that FOX News is always bending to the right of stupid. First and foremost, the title of the article is VERY MISLEADING. The Maine Commission is not banning gender specific restrooms. There are still going to be two facilities: one with a picture of a stick figure and the other with the picture of a stick figure that has pointy-triangles coming out of its sides. None of that is going to change. What may change is the school's ability to say that sex is equal to gender, and thus able to prevent a person from one sex entering a certain gender's bathroom. Regardless, you are going to be hard-pressed to find boys walking into the girl's room and vice versa. Any man's man would be embarrassed if they were caught in the lady's room. Everyone would make fun of him and his reputation would be shot.

As for rape, who exactly enforces bathrooms now? When I went to the bathroom today at college, there wasn't a guard standing post outside the door. I could have been raped! Who was there to protect me? And there certainly wasn't anyone watching the lady's room either. So there is no guard, no cameras, and no call system? Wouldn't you say that our current bathroom establishment is unsafe? I mean, if one is really concerned about a man walking into the lady's room, why aren't their safeguards in place to prevent this?

Since people tend to overlook my longer posts, I'll post the rest of my response in another post.

I've heard of this being done.  It seems like a good idea, I mean the gas is already there.  I don't see why it couldn't be done on a larger scale.  The technology already exists.  I expect the problem would be coordinating it all, and who does that.  We're all so determined to protect our own turf, myself included.

Good morning   my body and my mind kept waking me up saying hey aren’t you supposed to be getting up now since about 4am. I finally got up at 8:20 to get ready for my 10am shift.  I guess your wake up system gets into a habit and doesn’t like change.off tomorrow, then work Memorial day.    We got rain and a bit of thunder last night. Nothing too bad, unlike the poor people in the Midwest. They are really getting hammered with tornadoes this spring.  I suppose we’ll get ours later on.  It’s supposed to be a bad hurricane season and we haven’t had a really bad one in quite a few years.  The worst I’ve seen was a Cat 3 when the eye went right over us.     I stayed and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be but a 5? Now that’s another story.  I really don’t know how these condos will hold up to a bad hurricane.  Yes there is bracing throughout but how well was any of it installed?  Only the tradesmen plumbing electricians finish craftsmen spoke English the rest were all Hispanic and different emigrants worked together on different parts of the buildings.  One group did the framing and sheathing another different crew the roof, another the windows and so on.  Each building is 4 stories 18 units.  On the bottom we have four units with double walls but the top two are 5 each and no double walls.    @Mirrabooka I didn’t see many Reds, Roos or grasshoppers when I was in Australia.  I was mostly in Tasmania where they are mostly Wallabies.  My wife got to hold a young Tazzy Devil and a Koala Bear and I’ve held a wombat.  An emu got the best of my wife stealing all the food she had.   time to get ready for my day   Willow

As we know online rules are usually created by a team of people, basically the guideline rules are to keep everything running smoothly, and everyone is treated equally, and most importantly the code of conduct to make sure no rules are broken. My concern is, what happens when the online community rules (in general speaking) can have an impact on the freedom of speech? Perhaps it might had been artificial intelligence, that took down a post I made on the internet, somewhere else. I know I haven't broken any rules, I was sharing a true story experience I had about online safety, so it doesn't happen to anyone else.. then the post was taken down. I felt to frustrate the time and energy I've spent typing out my experience what happened to me, and then poof it was gone  lol  What can I do about this? lol

@Heather Shay you keep opening these cans of worms!!! 😄   I'm not a musician; I've barely strummed a guitar ever, but I LOVE music.    As far as influential voices go, I invite you to consider these homegrown guys, who continue to give me earworms. I hope that you listen to and can appreciate them:   Jimmy Barnes   Daryl Braithwaite   Very best: John Farnham

I've listened to this song an excessive amount of times.  I always play this when I power up a new music studio which is basically what I have going on today.

I tend to think of most energy politics from the demand side.  It's boring to think of just the "usefulness" of food, clothing and shelter, but outside of things like this that are so basic, we are very wasteful in the pursuit of things that are not necessary.   I tend to go through phases in life every few years where I just become meditative.  You know, it's a fine thing trying to capture this methane in the landfill, but the NET gain from it must be pretty small.  There must be a massive amount of propane that is just burned in the refining of oil.  At least that is what I understand from what I've read and processed from information on the internet.  I've been thinking about how gas tanks in cars have become pressurized over the last few decades.  It probably has something to do with ethanol, right?  I had this crazy idea last year that ethanol might be made from corn cobs.  They have to do something with them.   The problem with addressing things on the demand side is the old "buy American" failure of sorts.  I think the truth is more complicated than simply calling it a failure.  The idea of a world factory with parts produced in a central location making manufacturing more practical seems reasonable.  Reducing demand for energy is a fine idea, but is there some similar logistical problem with it?  My feeling is that it would probably work with some coordination.  We did survive without all this industrialization before.  I think the most exciting part is using mountain bikes instead of horses.  @awkward-yet-sweetand I got into a thread that exposed that idea.  Oh my, I'm laughing again.  It's such a cool idea!!  Bikes are wonderful as long as they are stored indoors.

Thanks, @Davie. I signed up. I've been a Miami Heat fan for years which already makes me love D & all the Wade family. But beyond athleticism, they are such good and inspiring people doing good and having a positive effect on culture. Bless them and their ventures.   Here's Zaya's instagram account if you want to see some of her gorgeous modeling. You do not need an instagram account to view. https://www.instagram.com/zayawade/

Featured on a local TV station lately is an ad for The Animals, touring for the last time apparently, who are appearing locally! This band was huge back in the day. I don't possess any of their music, but it is very familiar to me. To me, they are a cross between the Stones and the Doors.

Getting back into a normal groove here in my new reality.  Got up at about 3:20am.  Had a cup of coldish coffee leftover from last night.  Posted the rest of my bike parts that I need to pass on.  Did some of my daily writing.  Checked in with my best friend.   I'm moving, so I've been working hard on getting everything out of my house and cleaning up.  Things are progressing quickly and I have this idea of having an extended meditation session in my empty house for a month or two.  I'm not sure if I can slow down that much mentally, but I'll give it a try!

❤️   I'm a 2-minute walk from the edge of my town. From there I can stare at paddocks infested with 'grasshoppers' (kangaroos to you!)   But yes, being close to nature is its own reward. 🙂
