Standing Up For The Environment

On this celebration of earth day, President Obama is looking to lift the ban on whale hunting. There are still species of whales out there, that are so dessimated, they may never make a comeback. And if the US lifts the ban on hunting, it is very likely that other countries will follow suit. The environmental group that I belong to...IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) is asking people to call the white house to ask that this ban on hunting remain. If you are interested...the white house number is...202-456-1111. You can also go onto the website ...ifaw.org. There is a link there that will let you know if your state reps and senators are backing this or not. Hope it is ok to post this. Ever since I had my meeting with the whales ...years ago....all I can say is that there is a lot of wisdom...in those eyes. And, we need to protect them.

Hon.......

I have to say that I am somewhat disillusioned by this...

It's not at all the way I thought things would go when Obama got into office...

I am going to the site after I answer you here and check out my state reps...

This is not what should be happening at all!

Thanks....

I can not say I am surprised by this. Everything this administration has done has been rediculous. I do not want to get into a political debate. I think we should get rid of all the politicians and start over. I am a great lover of nature. All animals and plants. I think whales are truly wonderful creatures. I have gone to the website and will do what I can to help.

I have nothing good to say about him if he is really doing this. I mean really, whales? Hell same thing with sharks, they are endangered already.

I guess he felt the whales had enough of a break from death and wanted to him some good ol' fashioned white whale huntin.

Jean, I agree with you for the most part.

What those who do not lead by example say should be taken with a grain of salt.

In related news:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science_and_env...nt/10092320.stm

The world's governments will not meet their internationally-agreed target of curbing the loss of species and nature by 2010, a major study has confirmed...

...Unep chief scientist Joseph Alcamo added: "Since 1970, we have reduced animal populations by 30%, the area of mangroves and seagrasses by 20% and the coverage of living corals by 40%.

Anna, note, I am not attacking you. I am making a statement.

When someone presents an argument, and makes bold statements, without following up with evidence on where their study is conducted, and how their study is conducted, they hurt their own argument.

I won't take it as an attack because I have no idea what you are talking about. The link to the BBC article is posted, and if you read it, you'll see that the study was conducted by the UN Environment Programme's World Conservation Monitoring Centre (Unep-WCMC) and BirdLife International. Now if the link I presented previously, along with the direct quotes from UNEP chief scientist Joseph Alcamo, aren't good enough, I don't know what are.

So again, I ask, what in the world are you talking about?

Is there any kind of a direct link for this?

Sorry if I missed it or something.

We WILL do SOMETHING.
