PRETTY LIES

There are ugly lies and pretty lies,

They cause injury, torment and pain;

The difference may cause some surprise,

Because both cause damage all the same.

Ugly lies come from without,

They cause others hurt and harm;

The sow fear and hatred, distrust and doubt,

For their victims lo they bring alarm.

We tell ourselves those pretty lies,

Our fears and doubts relieved;

We hide behind with lidded eyes,

We alone are thus deceived.

When young we already knew the truth,

Behind our shield of lies concealed,

Pretending is how we spent our youth,

Our secret nature ne'er revealed.

We told ourselves the pretty lie,

That we could live our lives in peace,

Trust time to let those feelings die,

And let our misery and loneliness cease.

When at last our secrets shared,

Let in our world all those we love,

We lie again to souls thus bared,

That joy will fall from skies above.

When all has crumbled our world in dust,

We ask ourselves the cause and cry,

We know the truth it starts with us,

Oh the lure of pretty lies.

Pretty Lies is such a wonderful expression! Darn it girl, I think you have hit upon something important.

It replaces - "Living a Lie." We actually were instead telling ourselves 'pretty lies,' the entire time!

And you wrote it so well! I now expect more of this talent to be outed here at Laura's! You probably thought outing yourself was something entirely different. GRIN
