Need Advice For Hair Care

Hi all

I started groing my hair back out last fall. It's in that akward stage of not being able to do anything with.

I'm wanting to get it back to at least a pony tail length before any styling thoughts. In the meantime,

just trimming the ends and wearing bandanas. I use styling gel once in a while on wet hair when I don't want a hat.

My hair is thick coarse and curly. Looks awesome wet, but a frizzy mop dry. I have tried many cleaners and conditioners.

Nothing I've tried has helped yet. I don't want to fry my hair, it's bad enuff already. I can't afford a salon, still in guy mode too.

Is there any good home products to use?

Also thinking of hair coloring too. Get rid of the greys, and change it up some. Afraid to damage my hair more!!! <_<

Help!!!

Luv Kat :)

Hi Kat, Hun, Im in pony territory now and no more than 2 months away from

my first true cut/style/highlights , I"m going for a * bob * . There is a product

brand you may be able to get in The States ,,its called Aussie and caters for

all hair conditions/problems etc and I find it fabtastic !!! . Failing that I would

mosey into a hair salon and just ask one of the stylists . Good luck Hun, viv :)

What exactly (or generally) are you hoping to do? Just tame the frizz?

Make sure you use conditioner every day. I would recommend Tresemme conditioner for Dry/damaged hair. That might help for now to get some moisture in there. You could also try a deep conditioning treatment.

Now for styling, did you have a particular look in mind? I have curly/wavy hair and I use products specifically to enhance my curls. (guys love it, and girls are envious) so I use a curl-enhancing gel with my hair flipped over (to give some volume) and then seal it in with some hair spray.

As far as home coloring goes: it really depends on your natural hair color. If you have dark hair, you can only really go darker. If you're a brunette and want to go blonde you have to, basically, bleach the color out of your hair first and then color it what you want. That is murder on your hair tho, and I don't recommend it. Also with thick hair sometimes it takes more than one bottle to get the color all over but since you're still growing it out sounds like you'll need just one bottle at this point.

You could also try going to the salon at JC Penney. They do hair colorings all the time and just explain to them you're thinking about it to just cover up the greys.

Hi ladies

Thanks for the tips. I used to use Hair And Mane, but haven't seen it for ages.

Figures, eh. I've tried Aussie and Tresemme before. Nothing really chaged.

Is there any difference between shelf products at Wal-Mart versus their salon counterparts?

I don't want to pay more if I don't have to - but will if it means fixing the frizz.

Funny thing is my hair seems naturally oily. If I miss a day washing it - auugh.. ick!... ewe!!

Then as soon as I wash and condition towel and air dry. It combs nicely damp looks good with gel.

But with no gel it looks like I dried it in a Tesla Coil!?! Right now I'm using Garnier products.

I try to use all the same product line when I can. Does it matter? Would it be better with this shampoo, that conditioner?

As far as style I need to get my hair tamed first. It's so thick and curly... I might have to go with thinning and layering.

I'd rather not if I can avoid it. I'd much prefer to get it under control and all one length first.

Right now my hair is a dirty blonde / mousie brown, with grey (highlights?).

I am thinking of a warm auburn brown - with reddish highlights, and bit of black lowlights.

Would this be ok, or do more harm?

Let me know if you need more info.

Luv Kat :)

KellyKat,

I used to have really oily hair and couldn't go a day without washing it followed by conditioning. Then I heard about the Starzz and how they have changed their hair care regime where they washed their hair less much less. It has a kind of gross stage but afterwards it is much healthier. I stopped washing it with shampoo for a month followed by another. I still rinsed it every day and just wore a cap in public. My hair was on the short side as well. Now I wash it every two weeks or so and condition afterwards. Apparently our body makes all we need for healthy, soft, shiny hair and when we stop removing it daily it reduces the production and a natural homeostasis is achieved. My hair is now softer than I can remember and not nearly as frizzy as it could get without the use of products.

If you can make it past the beginning period the rewards are worth it.

Huggs,

Thanks for the reply Emily, but I'm afraid that's not for me. I work in a dc warehouse. I get dusty, dirty, and sweaty just being on the dock. I need to be able to wash my hair and keep it manageable.

Luv Kat :)

Welcome to TransPulseForums @gizgizgizzie    I hope you find this place as helpful as I do. I’m also in a slow transition living in the androgynous world. I’m out to my grown children and my extended family with mixed support from them. Some have cut me out of their lives and others want me to be their flamboyant family member.    Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.

Happiness for me comes from being cognizant of the things that make me feel good.   Sunshine.   Pandering to my inner woman.   Knowing that some people in my life really 'know' me.   Vacations, and Eggs Benedict at an alfresco cafe.   My wife and I being telepathic.   Grandchildren.   Music.   Wine!

True.  Every trans death is not a hate crime. There is so much hate expressed by some people, that we kinda get to expect it.

Hello & welcome, giz! Your post makes me remember how excited I was to join here too. I also had queer friends at the time I joined, but any of my trans friends lived a long distance away. So most local queer friends are gay & I felt uncomfortable coming out to them bc I couldn't assume they'd understand genderqueerness. So it was a thrill to join here and immediately have access to do many wonderful, genuine, kind & thoughtful friends-to-be.   Are you saying you're concerned that if you come out to your queer friends that somehow your parents will find out?     My love, I just want to affirm that that's not a weird dysphoria. It's just dysphoria. And we definitely get it. You're in good company here!     Look forward to seeing you around here & getting to know you. I shoot for androgynous appearance as well, leaning towards masculine.   Hope you're having a splendid day!

Listening to a YouTube mix for me and this song came up and I immediately fell in love again and just want to play music with like minded musicians playing OUR music and feel the joy and fulfillment even if no one else gets it. I love to fall into the music....
