Formal Dress

Well, my uncle's wedding is this weekend, & Mom wants me to dress fancier than what I usually wear, which consists of a T-shirt, a jacket(to help hide "development"), shorts & sneakers. My Mom has already picked out a DRESS for my sister, & I am NOT about to wear one of those. Any ideas?

Oh, Dear....

Is a compromise possible? How about some so/so pants and a neutral shirt?

Dang.....

Or maybe get sick for the day, but, that's really not a good idea...

How about just suck it up for one day and grit your teeth and wear it?

I tried to "man up" for my wife's birthday and take her out to Red Lobster...

Got called Ma'am, anyway....

At least I tried....

Hmm... About the compromise, I'll have to see, ask mom about it. I don't think I'm gonna suck it up & wear a dress though because it'd be miserable & humiliating. I'd probably go hide in the nearest restroom until it was over, then get out of there really quick. Of course, if I did that mom would kill me(not literally), so wearing a dress is probably not a good idea.

T-shirts and sneakers don't work for weddings and it doesn't matter what sex you are or what age. To avoid it (if at all possible) you are best to come up with a "feasible" alternative on your own. Try wider legged dress pants and a silky men's styled shirt. She gets the satisfaction that the leg style on the pants is dressish, you get the satisfaction that they're pants. She gets the satisfaction that the shirt is technically a womans garment, you get the satisfaction that its designed to look like a men's shirt. If you have nice black loafers, wear em. Loafers are loafers, they're pretty much gender neutral. DEPENDING on how liberal mom is , you could add a vest and masculine the whole thing up .

Mom's pretty liberal, but its my DADs brothers wedding, & his family is NOT. & I only have 1 pair of shoes(which are actually too small), which are those sneakers I mentioned. Man, I need to go shopping. Which I hate. *Sigh* I exasperate myself.

Oh, something I forgot to mention- it's a beach wedding. Does that make any difference?

Its always somethin with you isn't it?

Yes, that would matter.

**steps aside for some other clothing-optioned person to input.

Please, someone, I'm out of cigars. I need a smoke. lol.

Most beach weddings involve a lot of light material. Cotton, linen, those kinds of fabric. Barring of course a theme.

Is there a theme? Like Hawaiian or Mexican or something?

If there is, choose something that goes along with it.

Otherwise, what you'll likely see there is cotton pants, cotton drawstring pants, untucked loose shirts but nice quality. Barefeet or decent flipflops if its in the sand. If its on a pier or in a cabana or something , huaraches ( http://www.officialfiesta.com/v/vspfiles/a...ish%20brown.jpg )-ask your folks how formal it is and you'll have a better idea if shoes (like huraches) are in order or if bare feet is fine. Some beach weddings end in a reception/party/ pigroast/clambake right on the beach , some don't. Mostly be thinking "light" for your fabric. (Unless of course its at night <_< but thats a whole other thing)

Ooooh, what about a really long male white shirt with white shorts and white flip flops? Plus to dress it up, get some male beach jewelry like those white stones necklace and if the male top is too wide and long, tighten it up with a big male belt, possibly a brown one.

Just some ideas. :)

Still too girly for a guy Elle.

When I got married on the beach (in the Caribbean) most of the guests were wearing sarongs and were bare foot.... both male and female

Hey- remember how I told you I was clueless? Well, as it turns out, the wedding's tonight, rather than Sunday. But, since(from your descriptions) beach weddings seem more casual, I think I can throw something together. Thanks for your help(& I'm talkin' to all of you),

Just got back about 1 hr ago. Everything went fine(though I was stared at quite a bit). At first, my uncle didnt even recognize me, due to the boy clothes & haircut(not sure they could tell). I had a pretty good time(other than having to pee real bad & refusing to use the ladies room), & my uncle seems happy. So... all's well that ends well, I guess.

i wore a suit to my brother's wedding.. it's kinda ok these days for girls to wear suits. depending on how old-fashioned your family is, you might try a woman's suit. good luck.
