Is It Unlikely?

My shoulders are 10" wider than my hips, pre hrt ,Is it unlikely that I could lose 5" off my shoulders, and gain 5" on my hips?I don't know if this is relevant, but I did use to work out, so maybe that could be a factor?

Dear Tori,

Don't be so concerned - easy for me to say - but do look around you - women come in all shapes and sizes.

They are not all proportioned the same and neither are men - we need to learn to accept that and live with it but then again natal women are driven to diets and surgeries trying to obtain that mythical ideal!

Smile, you might just look like one of those hot swimmer types!

Love ya,

Sally

It really all depends on your bone structure and genes. I really don't think that you'll loose that much off of your shoulders, 5 inches is a lot. But I'm willing to bet you could gain 5 or more on your hips which would bring you very close to looking natural. It is always possible to gain but you can only loose so much as your bone structure will not shrink.

what she said. yeah hrt can give you more of a womanly figure - won't change your bone structure per se, so your pelvis doesn't actually widen but you do get fat redistribution which pretty much gives you more curviness (the degree to which it does is what varies.) And the opposite for ftms - your pelvis can't actually shrink in size. Nor can shoulders if, say, your scapula has widened. lol. but if it's muscle, that can probably change.

This is one of those "your mileage may vary" things. While your bone structure will not change, you will lose muscle mass in your shoulders and gain fat in your hips. How much of either is impossible to say to any kind of certainty. You should get closer than you are now. But a lot of women have wide shoulders, so who knows?

So losing 2 1/2" on each side of my shoulders is unrealistic even though I'm slightly muscular and haven't started hrt.

It's not that it's unrealistic. It's just hard to predict. I've been trying really hard not to set myself up for disappointment as to what the hrt will do for me. I'm just taking it one week at a time ;)

Don't stress about it and you'll be fine.

Tori......

Hon, we'd all like to look good as possible...

I used to have wide shoulders and it distressed me greatly...I thought that I'd never transition looking like that!

But, with my weight loss and HRT I can't even keep a purse strap on my shoulder...

I'm always reaching into my top and pulling the bra straps back up...

There's a lot of meat in those male shoulders!

Give it a chance, Honey......OK?
