The new promo for season 10 of Degrassi is out, and towards the beginning of this clip, there is a biologically female character dressed masculine, in a house of mirrors looking at herself dressed feminine. I don't know much, but I read that the character's name is Adam:

Also! then:

On teennick.com, the website of the channel that shows Degrassi, a blog post was given about the new Degrassi boys & it included Adams character:

http://www.teennick.com/community/nsider.php?id=9153&tag=degrassi

i'm so curious to see how Degrassi will handle trans issues with a teen audience.

& really excited that theres even a ftm on a show! Ive never seen one before! so WOOT haha

Even though we don't get Degrassi over in the UK, i will try my hardest to follow Adams character online somehow :D

The more we are accepted into roles on a TV show is only helping spread the word that we are not an abomination and we are just like everyone else. I am happy to hear about this. I hope more is to come.

That's pretty cool. :) It's good to see the trans community being portrayed more and more in the media as something other than a punchline.

I was talking with Kim Pearson from TYFA and she said that the character would be a season long, noy just one episode. Cool!

Does anyone know where i can watch full episodes (legally) online?

I'm really excited, unfortunately I looked at the comments on the article you posted and there's a lot of hate about Adam, but there is also a lot of people who just don't get it.

I find it funny when people say things like "they're a boy who is a girl" or vice versa, it sounds like terrible grammar to me because I feel like they're contradictory words. Or something.

I gave up on Degrassi a few seasons ago, once all the good characters moved onto college.

I might give it another try. Just to see what Adam is like.

CTV.ca is the host for the show, since it is filmed in Canada. I don't know if you can watch the videos on the site outside of Canada though. Worth a shot.

Exciting news, not a fan but will have to check out the show more now....it looks like the fans of the show are really enthusiastic & excited about the storyline as well ...there seem to be a confusion though whether the story is F2m or MTF...from checking out the promo...either way bring it on!!!

Nice. I was waiting for them to have a trans character. I figured they would eventually.

I haven't watched Degrassi in a long time, but I will be sure to catch this season because I am curious about how they handle this story line.

So it turns out the actress portraying Adam has a Twitter account. I won't post the link to it, but it's not that hard to find. Just look at the comments section of the teennick page for a fansite, and the link is tucked in there. She's really nice :) If you find a public facebook account of her though, it's not real.

Ahhhh degrassi.

I remember when Sir Drizzy Drake was Jimmy brooks, then Jimmy Brooks in a wheelchair.

And Spinner and Paige were the "meant forever" couple.

Back when JT was alive and Toby was a nerd.

When Emma was all about the environment, and Manny showed up to class in thongs.

Yep, back when in the good ol days.

Wait... what were we talkin about again?

OMG this is awesome. I'd like to have a character I can relate to and I'm sure if they do it right they can't gloss over the whole crappy self-image thing, but I'm really glad they're going with a FtM and there's one more guy that I have no idea what the hell they're talking about.

Even the couple of people I came out with seem to be more familiar with MtFs and are aware of its the negative image thats out there from the porn sites and crap like that. So we get sexualized and marginalized and put into the perv category.

Of course it would be nice if there were a few of each on a few different shows but these things take baby steps.

I'll be honest even I watch L word. And I LOVE it. But I think I kind of love it for some perhaps a little more pervy reasons. <_< I'm not saying I'm a pervy person or anything :P Just saying that I don't complain about some of the scenes if you get what i mean...Anyway...Moving on from that side of it....

The story lines are pretty good to me. Yea there is an FTM. But I have to say that from the ones i've watched so far with the FTM I've actually found it somewhat uncomfortable (I'm behind everyone else and only watch it on DVD and have only gotten up to season 3 or 4 or is 5? i can't remember) the reason being was that it put my fears right in front of me. He starts hormones illegally and then is clearly confused about his sexuality. Being a straight man I can't say I appreciated certain scenes... ;) I'm not homophobic it is just a uncomfortable subject for when that particular part of the relationship comes up. It wasn't just that I think it was the way the character sometimes talked about himself oh and the way that I actually felt he had started to become quite an angry horrible individual near the end of the season i'd watched when he first came into the programme.

Yeah. He gets better though. I rather disliked him at the begining, he was a penis, started illegally blah blah. you'll hate what happens to him later on too. its pretty gross. but i dont watch it because of him. i watch it because i like the show lol.

I know what you mean though. You don't have to be homophobic to feel awkward about some scenes.

Adam's first degrassi episode shows tonight!

So i should be able to watch it on teennick.com tonight? Yay!

(/hates that he does not have cable)

I hope they got this right without being a total... (non profanity/LPsencor word here plz?)... about it.

But having seen the gay football player thing go on without being Marco (who i loved in his own special way, mind you)

I started watching the show less then a week ago when someone else on here mentioned in a post that they were going to have an ftm character on it. I was surprised the shows actual not that bad. I saw both parts of the episode "My body is a cage." I think that they depicted him in a very realistic way.

Just saw My Body Is A Cage last night. It was very real and true to real life, imo. I found it to be very inspiring. I might have my mom watch it. :)

I haven't watched any of the episodes since. Can anyone who watches it regularly tell us if there have been any more Adam-centric scenes that are worth watching? :)

Nice to meet you @Mwm684 and Welcome! Congratulations on your decision to finally start living as your True Self.  It also took me (and others here too) many years to finally make that same commitment.  I am also happy you have support of your spouse and those around you.  That's very important. I am sure you will feel the positive effects of HRT once you are able to start (it can sometimes take a couple of months to really 'feel it' though).  I think you will find this Forum and Community very beneficial in your Journey.  Wishing you all the best!   Deep breaths ... One step at a time

California comes through again..  Proud to be a native.  But even here there is an undertone of intolerance that is both just under the surface or geographically prevalent.  We just need to stay on guard ... and stay Visible.

Welcome @Nonexistent! Glad you're here (I'm a bit late on the welcoming committee, ladies are allowed to be fashionably late right?).   Not presenting as the gender in my head & having others validate that when they misgender me sucks. But a fact I had to face a few months ago & am working on today is I'm a transgender woman, not cis. The chances of me passing all the time every time are slim. Sometimes it happen & feels really good when it does. I appreciate those people who acknowledge my femininity whether they're just being nice, or they see the woman inside.     Everyday now & as often as needed throughout the day I say to myself, "I'm a transgender woman, I didn't make me this way, today I will love & embrace myself just as I am, I will not be ashamed." I find it helps me be comfortable with who I am, just as I am. I'm still working on me, becoming the best transgender woman I can. I'm finding it easier to let go of what others might think.    I'm not sure about Texas I haven't been there since beginning my transition, but I was living in Florida since I began just over three years ago & politically it's not much different. I've been here in RI about a month & I honestly don't see a big difference in how people see, treat, or gender me here to how they did in FL.    I hope you find the wonderful advice, support, & acceptance here as I have.   Hugs! I was fairly surprised that the verdict came so quickly, but I guess the evidence was much more persuasive and overwhelming than we were led to believe.  What's disheartening, but not unexpected, is how fast some "leaders" have rushed to discredit the jury and everyone involved in the process.  The jurors, who spent 5 weeks of their time sitting in that courtroom, deserved better than that.  But those "leaders" I mentioned are just following the lead of their "Fearless Leader" in discrediting everything that doesn't go their way.   Carolyn Marie

Welcome! Glad you're here! So happy for you having your wife's support as well as her family & at work! You might look for a transgender support group or PFLAG in your area. I found them very helpful, especially as I began my social transition & going out into the world.   Hugs! Delcina

Welcome to Tran Pulse, @Mwm684.  It would be helpful, but not required, if you could give us a name of some kind that is less awkward than what we currently have.   Glad to hear that things at home and at work are going well for you.  I hope that continues.  Please let us know how we may be of service.   HUGS   Carolyn Marie

Happy Birthday Charlize! You know having met in person I think you may be stretching the truth a bit just to get senior discounts. I would have to say not more than a day over 29. Thank you for sharing this, our journeys intertwine in such a wonderfully delightful way.   Hugs! Delcina

Hello, I was born male but always wished to be female every day of my life. I am currently 48 years old and have an appointment with my GP to start HRT. I came out to my wife about 3 months ago and she has taken the news rather well. I have told my wife’s sister and her family, I have told my immediate supervisor and our facility operations manager at my work. So far all is well. I wish I had the courage to come out sooner but the fear and shame was just too much. I live in southwest Michigan and would really like to make some friends for support eventually. My wife and I are doing great and have no danger in splitting up over my situation. I have been dressing at home with my wife’s help for now. This really helps but I’m looking forward to HRT for the mental benefits as well as the physical benefits down the road.

This hand written stuff is just a few years old, but those math animation graphics are decades old.  Those Flash Math Creativity days.  Lots of good memories from that.  I never read that book, but you know, I was fully in that thing.   I called the collision detection I was coding 4 dimensional math.  My roommate a few weeks ago was describing the fourth dimension as a cube within a cube, connected at the corners and folding in on itself.  I always considered the fourth dimension to be time.  I'm not sure I ever coded a 3 dimensional collision detection, but I realized that you would just do it with the perpendicular plane and then take the closest hit.  My mind certainly isn't in all the details of it right now.  I'm simply enjoying showing some of my work and perhaps it will spark someone else's interest.  I guess my art work doesn't fall into a clean boundary of illustration.  There is a thing about adopting a theme though.  You've got to work with something in an OOP world.

That’s so wonderful! I’m glad to hear that mono-therapy worked for you! But Thank you, I’m def trusting the process and seeing where it leads. 😊     That’s really kind of you to say all of that. It makes me feel better that the plan I’m sticking with is unique to me as every plan each and every one of us is on is unique. And yes, I absolutely echo your sentiments about communicating clearly and openly with my provider if something doesn’t feel right or not working. Very good advice! 😊   I told my provider at the appointment that my plan was to do mono-therapy once my levels were good. She said when that time comes it will definitely be considered, but for now it’s getting my levels where they need to be is her main concern.
