Have A Doc Appt On 14Th

On July 14th I'm meeting w/a doc to discuss hormone options and get blood work. Then I have to have a 45 min consult about my hormone options w/a therapist and then a second trip to the Doc and I'd be leaving that office w/hormones.

I wanna start as soon as possible and go as slowly as possible if that makes any sense? I've been in contact w/a hair removal co and I'm going in for a consult.

I know I'm new to this board but I've been sure of myself for decades. I just couldn't move forward. Like I said on my greeting, I've discussed things w/GTs before. This last one there was never a question of if I were TS from her, even during the first contact. When I talk there are few things I prob sound more confident in. It's only like the first thing I think of every morning and my last thoughts every night.

I'm just not sure what to say to the doc and what to request...and I'm not talking dosages because I know the rules here and it'll be based on my blood work anyway.

The reason I stated in my greeting thread I was concidering going on anti-andro without estro was because I have a lot of body hair that I'd like to address and I could do without the penis so shrinkage would be a plus to me. As far a body image goes, these are more negatives than say lack of boobs. Not that I don't want boobs. Just for like 30 years. I could prob write poems about them. But hairy boobs will make me vomit.

It was never about taking the anti-andro by itself for like 10 years. Did I mention I want boobs?

I know everyone is different and my doctor will be able to answer this best, but are there some safe realistic time frames?

I need to work on my face. That might take a year.

If I weren't living full time would I have a problem hiding it a year later? I'd like to get as much done with the thicker skin, but I have a pretty high pain threshold so I do want to keep moving forward.

I know Im prob asking opinions and then Im just going to talk to my doc and therapist and do what they recommend, but it's 3 whole weeks away and my brain is going a million miles a minute. Plus Id rather have some ideas going in. I didn't know about the bone issue w/no hormones in the body till I came here.

Well, one thing I'd suggest requesting is bio-identical hormones like Estradiol as opposed to Premarin. Their much healthier because they are exactly like the stuff your body makes anyway. Typically a doctor will start you on a low dosage of estrogen before adding the Spironolactone while gradually increasing your dosages of both. For me, I started HRT a year before I came out, and had no problem hiding the changes. I got boobs, but they were tiny, they didn't grow significantly until I started Prometrium(Progesterone) which was 3 years into it. BTW, HRT causes facial and body hair to become lighter and less noticable. It doesn't go away, but I can go a day or two without shaving and not see anything. I can FEEL it, but I can't see it. I'd just relax, take what your doctor suggests, and focus on hair removal. Good luck on that, cuz hair removal SUCKS!

Good advice from Kelise....

I wouldn't touch Premarin because it isn't that good for you and because of the way the animal is treated that it is taken from....

Oh an the body hair?

I was plenty hairy to start but after some months on HRT I shaved everything and except for face, hardly anything grows now...maybe a touch up in the shower once a week for me...

Good luck, Hon!

Okies...here's a question I keep meaning to ask. I went the illegal hormone route over 20 years ago. I won't appoligize because I know I might not be here if I didn't have that at that point in my life. I was in a dark place. I wouldn't do it now cause I'll always have something to live for since I have kids. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone these days even if they're in the same spot because you don't have to go that route.

Anyway does starting and stoping and then starting hormones again effect the end product? I'm sure I have some tissue in the boobs from back then. My nipples have always been more sensitive. Maybe they'd even start quicker?

I can relate to looking in the mirror at a young age in life, whenever I explained to my parents, it resulted in a car ride to the hospital emergency room.

Hi all, a bit more about the story - I just realised the first message didn't tell you much! It's called 'Going Out', set in the UK, and it's by me, Nicola Atherton, if you search Amazon. Have a little read of the first two chapters which are there for free in the 'Look Inside' bit. It's a lovely long read, a gradual, detailed, emotional story which I’m sure some will find at times painfully raw, while at other times unbearably exciting. I wrote it for us lot :) It starts off as a gradual, realistic intro into Amy’s solitary world, before she accepts what she’s always known to be true. She makes friends with girls and meets men, and her story plays out in a way that others have said they enjoyed very much. I think you'll all love it :) PAPERACK copy.pdf

Wow! Hopefully that encounter is amicable! I can only imagine what might be going through your mind right now!   I was a bit of a prude, I don't even need a whole hand of fingers to count my sexual partners on. Good old fear-based Catholic "sex ed" did its number on me.   I get nervous walking into men's rooms. I don't look the part for the either restroom these days, I guess. I did use the women's at the convention I volunteered at (the restrooms were temporarily made gender free though), it was nice having a stall to use without waiting.   The whole bathroom debate is so stupid. Genital-based restroom assignments aren't going to stop people intending abuse and there are laws for handling them already. It's the fear the laws strike and the conditions they creates is the problem, fomenting distrust and hate. Who cares who is in the stall next to you? Let them pee in peace!

Good morning! Just finishing my delayed coffee after fasting for routine bloodwork.   Just had my annual physical and I came out to my Dr. He was so kind and said if/when I want to start HRT they have a couple endocrinologists who specialize in transition and he could give me a referral. So nice! Not quite ready to jump into that yet, but he was so understanding. Another small step in my social transition. I feel so happy! 😊

Not a quote, but a poem; "Invictus," by William Henley.  I had it hanging on the wall of my office for many years.   "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul."

I am ambidextrous. I learned to write righty in school so I usually write with my right hand but my handwriting is better if I use my left hand. I use a lefty mouse. I am physically stronger in my left side.

Easy, I have felt the same way, not quite to the point of wanting to quit but sitting there one dosing morning and thinking "what am I doing?". I am in a crazy place right now; family is moving across the country, I am being laid off for the first time in my career and have to find a new job, and I'm in the middle of this gender journey that seems like it makes everything harder than it could be. I'd always been a "man with boobs", even when I was in my 20s and really skinny I had breast tissue, and now I'm accepting of that and want more but in a different way--I don't want to be a man with boobs, I want something different. I am something different, but it's hard because of nearly a half-century of social programing. So I empathize with your struggle, very directly.   I haven't dressed "male" for nearly six months and I just volunteered at a conference with my femme nickname and she/her pronouns on my name lanyard. The whole experience was great, I didn't feel a minute of anxiety or worry. That stuff comes at home, when left to my thoughts. Which is more telling? The comfort being Mae in public or the doubts and worry in private?   When I look in the mirror and see this more feminine me, it calms down the doubts and worry, so I'm starting to allow myself to trust in the former.
