When Did You Start To Dream Entirely In The Correct Gender?

I've been thinking about who I am in my dreams, and when conflict of my identity emerges. I've dreamed "female but unable to be" my whole life, but not in all dreams. And there have been female dreams as well. I there a point at which one has "clicked" in the transition (or the decision not to) that you cease to have any conflict in your dreams? Does the "old" you reappear from time to time?

When i did immersion language courses, it was a "good sign" when I dreamt in that language. I am feeling that way about identity in my dreams as well, that when the conflict is not present it's a sign of some peace for me when I am awake.

I'm not suggesting that dreams are the marker of identity, just a symptom of emotional well being in some ways.

Sabine I think you will find out that we all have had dreams about living as the opposite sex. I dreamed all my life that I was a girl. Now I am working on making that a reality. I can't say there was a click in my head, I just knew it was time. Maybe some others will come in here and let you know how they decided it was time.

Most of my dreams throughout my life were in relation to being female in some way...

Maybe my true self trying to rectify the wrongs ...

But, these last two years since transitioning, I only seem to dream as me...

Seeing the world through my eyes and not on the outside looking in...

If I see a mirror I see a woman in my dreams, otherwise, I'm just me...

I like it that way!

I don't dream much because I have sleep issues. And if I have a weird dream like where I'm on a purple talking horse getting chased by 6 foot catterpillers sex doesn't really come up.

But every dream as far back as I can remember where it was an issue,I've been a girl or working to be a girl or *gasp* turned into a girl by an evil force and shucks I just have to find a way to make it through. Oh please don't give me breasts and make me wear pretty things. Anything but that!

Your post led me to realize that while I have had dreams in which I was aware of being a woman, they are the exception. And I have dreams in which I am aware of being male. Those are usually dreams where I'm struggling with a particular problem. But mostly-I'm just me, looking out through my own eyes. I have a body but no perception of it as having a gender. Or even a particular appearance. I don't look in mirrors in my dreams. It's just me. But since I am male in identity yet only recognized it a couple of months ago I suspect that has been my way of denying the knowledge-even in my sleep.

Sorry to post back-to-back but I just remembered my best and rarest dreams are of flying. And when I am flying I am always male. Always have been.

Another clue I missed!

Dreams are tricky - usually it is that third REM sleep cycle that makes any real sense - and the one you remember of a few seconds when you wake up. Like many said - dreams are generally just you and you usually don't notice any gender unless there is a reason.

So asking when does the gender shift kick in? Like asking, "When did you change gender"? You never really did as you were probably born as what you are - so in your dreams it is more the question, "When did you start identifying a SEXUAL identity" of what you are? Donno

I would once dream I was wearing high heeled shoes - and in the dream it was embarrasing when people saw that. Now I dream that same type dream, and it is natural - no really big reaction from anyone. I suppose that identifies me - that I now feel comfortable as what I am - but it is associated with how I present in waking hours. Wearing heels is natural and routine for me now, it is what I do.

It just happens. Reversal? I also sometimes realize in my dreams I am dressed male, and THAT is embarrasing for me now.

Complicated

I guess I'm kind of an average of everyone who's posted so far. Growing up, I was male in 90% of my dreams. Anytime I dreamed I was a girl, I never wanted to wake up because it just felt so right. When I was 13 or 14, I dreamed I was a beautiful woman encased in a huge block of ice, and by the end of the dream, the ice was beginning to thaw--how's that for symbolism?

Now, most of the time, I'm still male in my dreams (much to my dismay), but more and more, I'm either in-between genders (as I am now) or completely female. I'm hoping this will happen more often, as more of my doubts go away and I have the freedom to express my true self to the entire world, and not just to people who are in-the-know.

My dreams are also usually pretty funky. Last night, I dreamed I was in I Am Legend helping Will Smith fight off zombies

i remember I used to have "gotta get away" dreams in which I find some opportunity to dress female, although I am male-bodied, and without fail people I know will come around and I will be forced to find a way to escape without being seen. Rarely I'd accomplish this, most of the time i was caught, and hostility ensued, and to escape I had to run, which was never easy because every time I try to run in a dream gravity always goes wierd on me. Like every time I get a step in I am flung several feet about the ground and feel like i'm falling for several seconds before I touch ground again and can take another step. This makes getting anywhere very difficult and I panic. I usually wake up then.

The dream has stopped since I transitioned. Now I'm just a woman in all my dreams, and it's natural to everyone. Occasionally the "thing that shall not be named" appears in my dreams, but I'm still a woman otherwise.

I don't recall having many dreams in which gender was an issue at all, until several weeks before beginning HRT. Of course the issues that crowd our minds during the day are the ones we often wrestle with when we're asleep, and so it came as no surprise to me that I began having dreams about transition, about being female, in those pre-HRT days and weeks. Happily, almost all seemed pleasant, but I did have a couple of nightmares thrown in just for fun.

Nowadays, whenever I can remember a dream with me in it, I'm always Carolyn. I like those a lot. :)

I still don't half the time, those dreams I am usually sad the whole time. The ones I do dream I am female, there is a force actively out to harm me in those dreams. Though since I came out, the dreams where I am the "real" me are more and more often.

All the dreams I typically recall happen in a first person view, so I couldn't really say what the gender was. The only times where it was obvious were two dreams, one about... 3-4 years ago, where I woke up, looked in a mirror and was a girl. Oh man, I was so angry when I woke up from that dream... it was like: 'can I make that reality, and just swap out my current reality for some dreams?' <_< My second one was where I was getting ready to brush my teeth, and I had pigtails, which suddenly grew to be ...bigger pigtails. And I was happy about that. Wasn't as good as that first dream though!

I think what Elizabeth says is likely true... the more you identify as a girl, the more you'll dream like one.

I have not dreamt of myself in the right gender yet, but I have had some really bad nightmares when my hormones get out of wack. It is one of the reasons I want to get injections.

Interesting thing, my gender is rarely part of my dreams. The only time plays a role is when I have anxiety dreams about being outed. Otherwise, I am just myself in my dreams, as myself. As I am correcting my gender malfunction, I assume that, in my dreams, I am the correct gender.

Now I raaaaarely remember my dreams... ever since I started having nightmares when I was very young... but I don't remember EVER being aware of being a girl in my dreams.

That doesn't mean anything, does it?

Welcome to TransPulseForums @gizgizgizzie    I hope you find this place as helpful as I do. I’m also in a slow transition living in the androgynous world. I’m out to my grown children and my extended family with mixed support from them. Some have cut me out of their lives and others want me to be their flamboyant family member.    Best wishes, stay positive and motivated    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Accidents happen.  So do heat-of-the-moment murders, without premeditation or trans-related hate.  It will take a trial to really figure it out.     One thing we can see from this is that it is people in our circles of acquaintances, friends, and partners who are the ones who usually hurt us.  Not someone random. We have to be careful who we trust.

Friday May 17th is IDAHOBIT (International Day Against HOmophobia, BIphobia and Transphobia).   Do you acknowledge or celebrate it? Do you do anything special for it, like taking part in any organized events or activities?   I'm not an activist and I prefer to fly under the radar, but I am slowly becoming aware of important dates. I have been aware of the date of IDAHOBIT for a few weeks now, but other important 'rainbow' dates have not been etched into my brain yet.    I will wear my favorite pride t-shirt as a token acknowledgement of the day, but it probably won't be seen; cool weather here will mean that it will be hidden under a sweater.

Happiness for me comes from being cognizant of the things that make me feel good.   Sunshine.   Pandering to my inner woman.   Knowing that some people in my life really 'know' me.   Vacations, and Eggs Benedict at an alfresco cafe.   My wife and I being telepathic.   Grandchildren.   Music.   Wine!

True.  Every trans death is not a hate crime. There is so much hate expressed by some people, that we kinda get to expect it.

happiness to me is being ME. At all times, and it has yet to happen.

Hello & welcome, giz! Your post makes me remember how excited I was to join here too. I also had queer friends at the time I joined, but any of my trans friends lived a long distance away. So most local queer friends are gay & I felt uncomfortable coming out to them bc I couldn't assume they'd understand genderqueerness. So it was a thrill to join here and immediately have access to do many wonderful, genuine, kind & thoughtful friends-to-be.   Are you saying you're concerned that if you come out to your queer friends that somehow your parents will find out?     My love, I just want to affirm that that's not a weird dysphoria. It's just dysphoria. And we definitely get it. You're in good company here!     Look forward to seeing you around here & getting to know you. I shoot for androgynous appearance as well, leaning towards masculine.   Hope you're having a splendid day!

Listening to a YouTube mix for me and this song came up and I immediately fell in love again and just want to play music with like minded musicians playing OUR music and feel the joy and fulfillment even if no one else gets it. I love to fall into the music....
