  1. 1. If FTMs and MTFs could trade bodies with a 50% survival rate, would you take the risk?

Hypothetically, if it were possible for an FTM and MTF to trade bodies, but the survival rate is only 50% (You have a 50% chance of dying); would you do it? Discuss why.

No I would not take that chance...that is too much to loose....though I feel like I would die if I did not change bodies...but if that was my choice no I would not...I will adjust as I am doing now....

I can definitely see how the answers will vary, depending on how far along in transition people are, and if they have any loved ones in their lives.

I voted yes, because I don't put much value on my life, I guess. I also don't have much hope for this world. Who knows when all the systems will collapse, or when terrorists finally win, or when our economy is too far gone. I also hate my height and my shoulders. Things I can't change, so it would be worth the risk to me.

I would, for me in all honesty if I had a chance to live properly it's worth the chance of death. If I could live real instead of as close to real as I can get I would take that chance, to me it's worth the risk. Though since now this isn't possible I'll go with what I can do to change and what I am doing. ^_^

no. i think there is something to be said for the one who plays the hand s/he is dealt, no matter how "unfortunate" the outcome may seem. emphasis on the SEEM...because due to our perception, things may not always BE as "horrible" as they appear. but to view them through another lens, we may gain insight into how to deal with our current situation. we have the power to change much more in our surroundings than we initially think. perception is just ONE of the keys.

hrm..i ranted a little. my bad.

No. If it was between that and living with my current body, I might, but I would rather just transition. I want my male body, not just any one. I will not take that much of a risk to be taller with satisfactory genitals.

if it could be my male body i would do it

but i don't want to get stuck with some random body

so i've gotta say no

No no, not like that. Not randomly. You and an MTF would match up or find each other then agree to trade. Heck, maybe they'd make a dating service type thing out of it if it were real. People could browse ads for the type of body, hair, eyes and etc they want. This random idea of mine is evolving out of control, lol. I originally thought of it because an FTM friend of mine said "I'll trade you" and I've seen other people say it on this board. I just wanted to add a moral dilemma so I added the survival rate. It's been interesting seeing people's votes and reasons so far.

I value life too much...so no.... I would assume this was a science based enhancement so waiting does give chances for them to improve survival rates...but I guess I'm dodging the question.

i've still gotta say no though

i kinda like my life and don't really want to be potentially gambling it away

i voted no because no matter what my body says i am a girl and i would live the same way anyway.=) and if i were to take that chance and it went wrong i would never be whole where as if transition and have srs and get on hrt it is harder but more rewarding imo. and with al that i will be almost as whole as a regular female.

Question: with the 50% survival rate, is it just you who would die or would both you and the other person you switched with die?

I thought of that as well. It'd be selfish if each person had their own survival rate. It would also be sad if were you the person that lived and your old body died. The chances of both people living would only be 50% of 50%, which would also be sad. I'd say you live together or die together!

First of all, the whole question is subjective; I'm seeing this as more of a brain transplant than anything. It's debatable whether something called a "soul" exists or not. (Even if it did, how would you transplant it? It doesn't seem to be tangible.)

Assuming a successful brain transplant could even BE done, there would be a huge risk of organ rejection... so, no, the whole thing seems futile to me, even if the results were perfect.

No, I wouldn't do it. Life is 100% fatal, in the end. I wouldn't do anything to risk shortening my life. Even though I wish some pretty big things are different, I definitely want to hang around.

I'm waiting for research with stem cells and such to advance enough to grow me the right parts. I don't want someone else's body. I want to fix mine!!

I really like that perspective. I've learned a lot from everyone's answers here and I enjoy reading them.

 If there was a site where you could meet with a MTF and FTM I would just act as if I wanted to go through with it, and then I'll use my incredibly smooth, manipulative, and debonair techniques to eventually hook up with the person

I voted no. I have not lived 18 years just t take that huge of a risk. Transitioning is important and all but it would hurt others around me to see me dead like that.

I already feel like i am dieing inside this body as it is now, so the chance to be whole and pure would be worth it to me. There has been many nights i have dreamed this was possible and i did it everytime.

i voted yes without hesitation. it's funny you would even bring this up because i thought of this often when i was younger. hey, a girl can dream can't she. i've aready lived a half a century, sounds like a long time, doesn't it, and i've pretty much lived my life. i so dislike this prison i'm in that death might be sweet release from my miserable existence if i didn't survive. :( and if i did suvive, i could finially get on with my life. :)

Good morning coffees   This probably doesn’t exactly apply to me because you wouldn’t have found a more shy and conservative person than me.  I was perhaps less shy before my sister started complaining about me doing things that were hers to do. And I would become embarrassed and that was the end of that.   upstairs unit got their typical weekend visitors in the middle of the night last night.  They woke me up.  They have little consideration for being in a condo community and the neighbors being in such close proximity.   @awkward-yet-sweet , how goes the job with your husband’s boss?  I don’t recall you saying much about it this week, but I could have missed a post along the way.  If I recall you were supposed to meet with him last Monday.   @KymmieL I hope you are feeling better.     Yes, I find it to be wrong that just because a car part says Ford or Chevrolet on the box that same part with Lincoln or Cadillac on the box cost a lot.more.  I know there are differences in the upscale brands such as the engine and drivetrain in the Caddy and of course the interior fit and finish.  But it’s the same body with things crammed in the same way under the hood.     well, time to finish my coffee, fix my hair and made my way across the street to work.    willow

I read about her this morning. What a shame! She was beautiful and it seems she had a strong support system in place and could have had a wonderful life all to have it end like this. Such a waste. I truly hope the monster that killed her gets everything he deserves.

I am so glad you enjoy them as well. The help things “stay put” so well. It got me through some of my most dysphoric times.   Wow, I hadn’t heard this at last week’s Zoom meeting if you had mentioned it. That is a huge milestone April Marie.I have no doubt that this confidence will only grow in time. The freedom of being yourself, especially in public, is a wonderful feeling. I am truly happy for you.😘   *Big Congratulatory Hug* Susan R🌷

@Abigail Genevieve, that is not an appropriate question, IMO.  This isn't the Army/McCarthy hearings.   Carolyn Marie

Don't think Americans would go for the "compulsory" part. We kind of like not being told what to do ... Amazingly, there is great pushback on voter ID laws. The opponents say it discourages voting, especially among the poor and minorities. That is really a smokescreen IMO for those who want to harvest ballots from as many places as possible, including folks who don't exist or don't hold citizenship...

Pretty soon I think I might be ready to talk about gender-affirming care for kids, possibly w/r/t the Cass Review and its shortcomings.

She was a beautiful young woman ...   "What we do know is that the offender was a very violent individual and should not have been on our streets.”  Whether gender related or not, the mental health and incarceration issues in our country are incredibly bad and need to be addressed.

April,   I'm glad my entries are interesting to you.  TransCentralPA is a great organization with so many caring people.  I would strongly recommend you find a way to attend the Keystone Conference.  I guarantee you'll find it an amazing experience.     Hugs,   Sally

Dear @Sally Stone.  I think you should author a memoir based on these posts (maybe you're already working towards that?).  You could decide at a later time if/when you might want to publish.   I appreciate you sharing your deep connection with your friend Willa (and I am sorry for your loss) and the benefit of having a Trans friend and mentor in our Life and Journey.  I was fortunate to have found one also in our TGP friend @Kasumi63.   As you know we share many common Life themes in our stories.  Drop me a PM if you'd like to chat about it.  Looking forward to the next 'chapter'.

Voting is compulsory here, for better or worse. Would doing the same in the US snap people out of their apathy?
    • Abigail Genevieve
I am noting you use CRT terminology.  The comment is not out of the blue.  Some of your remarks on religion suggest atheism.  So it is believable that you are a Marxist, knowingly or not.  Are you?
