Labelling Queer people

Pariahs

Mentally defectives

Needing psychological help.

Never realizing

Society has left you behind

Moving forward

Slowly embracing

People like myself

Whom challenge

Destroys your foundation

By existing.

What arbitrary standard

Is a Transperson

Held hostage

Regarding

Sexual orientation

Favouring heterosexuals

Over gay Trans.

Oh i forgot

Transpeople are less than human

Not covered by

Canada's Human Rights Act

Rather treated

As wards of the system.

Knowing

Within your grasp

Mine and other Transpeople's future

Can be destroyed by a simple

"Yea" or "Nae".

Eliminating

Any possible chance

Of fixing

The genetic mistake

We're born with.

Sadly

Anything i argue

Falls upon deaf ears

Hoping for an opening

Letting in sunlight

On a dark and hidden corner

Of Canada's treatment of Transpeople.

Very pointed and powerful stuff, Therisa. What's sad is, as bad as things might be in Canada, they are far worse here in the U.S. Only those lucky few who work for progressive national corporations get any part of transition covered by insurance. The government doesn't help at all, not even ObamaCare.

Sadly, Canada could have included the transcommunity, when the constitution was admended, to include gay rights, but the MP who proposed the amendment, was silent on our constitutional rights, when proposing the private member's bill, which passed, in 1996. Canadian courts have ruled that the Canadian Chart of Rights, should be read to include, gender orientation, but this is not the same, as seeing it printed on paper.
