So Today Is The Day Of Silence

I have a throat infection today. How convenient. I'm still talking though.

However, I completely support the Day of Silence. Being pan and trans myself, I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't... xD We do need to get people to see us as human.

i used to be able to keep up with event days like this in college.. now life just pretty much goes on as it will - sometimes without me - and i cant keep up anymore.

i dont like talking though anyway...so now i guess i have an excuse to keep the trap shut. grr pre-T voice.

yeah I've heard about it. it's cool. My school's GBLTS(the last being "strait") group "Project 10" is promoteing it and I'm glad. I am not a member however.... actually their highly Homosexual/Bisexual dominated. not there's anything wrong with that. I'm just not sure how much the group looks into Transsexual issues, I mean despite being part of the "community" Transsexuals are inherritly diffrent and it seems like they fade into the background as their celibrating gay pride week or somthing of that matter... but I'm getting on a tangent.

I'm not participating... I'm pretty darn quiet as it is(in the context of these issues) and should I be silent I'll only retreat into my head...which tends to create problems.

Well, then, you should get in there and make them pay attention (that is, if you feel comfortable doing so). Of course they're not going to pay much attention to trans issues if there are no trans people involved. In my experience, GLBT groups do tend to overlook trans people and may even harbor some amount of transphobia, but they also tend to be open-minded and supportive once they get to know a "real trans person." We have to stand up for ourselves and make people notice that we exist and that we're not freaks or anything so that we don't fade into the background and so that our issues are recognized, too.

Back to the topic: I've been walking around all day with duct tape over my mouth. Haven't talked; it's kind of weird not talking at all. I'm really glad to get to participate this year. In high school I never could; I went to a conservative Catholic school and I would have gotten in big trouble for doing it. We weren't even allowed to have a GSA or anything. Plus, I wasn't out yet then.

Didn't have school today, I think school planned it. Not that I'd've been silent, I do that enough at that school. Why make a whole day out of it?

Yeah, I did it (just for school; not talking to my parents has no impact, and I don't want to waste a psychologist appointment), although I had to give a presentation (on Elton John, appropriately enough). Most of my friends did it, too, so I had a lot of conversations consisting of facial expressions and hand gestures. Funnily enough, it seemed to be mostly straight people doing it, probably due to the lack of the openly LGBT (at least two of our small number were absent that day!)

Haha, don't worry. :D The one time I did it I didn't start until 2nd period and spent hte last period talking because it was chem and I can't not talk in chem. One guy was sooo funny about it, though. Spent the entire time saying that not talking wouldn't get anyone's attentiona nd was useless. I didn't point out that he just spent the entire class paying full attention to it. ^^

I've done it for the last few years but I didn't do it this year. This year I wore a big sign saying "Transsexuals Speak Up" because after having been in the same school for four years, I've only JUST found out this year from one of my friends that there are two other FTMs in my school. We have over 3,000 people so it shouldn't have come as a huge surprise, but still. d:

It's a great event and anyone who participated in it has my respect.

My school did this. The people participating even had little cards to show explaining why they weren't talking and a short explanation of the reason behind the day. Anyone could do it and the cards were lying out for anyone to take in the library. More people than I expected participated. It was amusing seeing them trying to communicate with teachers using facial expressions and gestures.

Good morning everyone,   The puppy has been walked, fed and watered. Coffee is brewing, I’m watching the news, while the cats are taking in the smells a sounds of the back yard, since the back door is open.    Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

Feeling emotionally numb is associated with a number of mental health disorders, including anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. Emotional numbness can also be a sign of schizophrenia, depersonalization/derealization disorder, or dissociative identity disorder.

This is such an issue. There are some foundatrions who will help and you would need to google it - but there are places to seek help.

It is so differernt for every person. It will depend on your body BUT you'll make it and you'll be happier. Some adjustments maybe be made so be in touch with endo if you need to. CONGRATS. It is a huge step.

Yeah, the insurance companies are like a minefield. They have many exclusions. Read the fine print. Although they will pay 60% out of network, that means they will only pay 60% of what the insurance company deems as the average cost they usually pay, not what you will pay the surgeon. Yeah, I know they claim that in those fancy looking benefit sheets when you sign up for the plan, but they have an awful record of paying. Some insurance companies like Kaiser Permanente have a lot of coverage for transgender individuals, and some do not.    I ran into the same thing you did, with my facial surgeries. I wound up not getting any reimbursement. It was a hard miserable event. It is not true that most of the good surgeons for trans surgeries do not submit to insurance. We are somewhat vulnerable in that a fair number of us have thought about this surgery for a long time. There was a time when no insurance companies paid a dime. They claimed all of this is cosmetic. Yes, there is a cottage industry based on us. We are vulnerable. I know a fair number of women on here have willingly paid the a lot of money for all types of procedures. That is how serious we are about this surgery. I have friends who have paid out of pocket to a variety of surgeons. I myself paid out of pocket for facial surgery. However, there are some really good surgeons out there associated with university hospitals who can do every bit as good as the surgeons in private practice.    The good news is that United Healthcare is accepted at several big centers with some really good surgeons. Rush University Hospital in Chicago has a wonderful surgeon, and an incredible gender affirming program. They have one of the best integrated programs in the country. Rush makes sure you have wall-to-wall care. Rush meets every one of the WPATH criteria for comprehensive transgender care. There are several other university hospitals with comprehensive programs. I failed to do my research and paid a fortune for my facial surgeries. I could have also had many of the procedures covered in network had I known about Rush, University of Colorado, or Mayo Clinic. Think it through. While there are a number of surgeons offering this surgery with what looks like less hoops, shorter waiting times, but you will pay out of pocket. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I completely understand the feeling. It’s much like watch a kettle come to boil. Looking back the changes were much like that boiling kettle…the less anticipation, the faster the results seem to have come or became noticeable to me. I do have to say that there was sort of an immediate placebo effect in just the fact that I knew I was finally making it real and that the process had begun. I was immediately at peace with my decision which up until that point I kept second guessing all the negative possibilities it might create. Almost 6 years in, I wouldn’t change my path in any way.   And a big congratulations for being able to make that leap toward authenticity. That is a huge milestone!   Best of luck on your journey, Susan R🌷

I'm not sure that's quite true.  If it was done by private entities?  Like most landfills here are privately owned, as are power plants.  I can't see a reason they couldn't be combined.    Right now, garbage companies in my area harvest the methane produced by the landfill to run their trucks.  The put all sorts of pipes in among the layers of the landfill to collect it.  Compressed natural gas (CNG) can be used with only minor modifications to existing engines, and many truck stops are adding CNG pumps as some fleets transition to it.    A fuel's usefulness is often measured in BTU's per gallon.  CNG has approximately the same BTUs as diesel or gasoline (138,000 or so.)  Pure ethanol and E85 have much less - like 76,000 BTUs.

Well, after a week on HRT, as many would probably have predicted, I've noticed exactly zero mental or physical changes. Patience appears to be the key here as hard as that will be after finally getting my transition moving. Guess I just need to sit back and enjoy the ride. Hope that my first blood tests after two months will show hormone levels moved acceptively.
