Facial Hair

I have a big problem with facial hair. What I do is first I use an electric razor. Then I get in the shower. Then after my shower, I take a blade razor and shave again. But my problem is that no matter how much time I stand there shaving I still have 5:00 shadow. My face, mostly around my chin, stays gray. Even with makeup. This is driving me nuts. Is there anything else I can do to get rid of the shadow?

I am sorry Rachael that you have this problem even after make-up. My only suggestion was going to be concealor as that works for me. I hope someone else can come in here with another suggestion.

.

Well, Hon.

The obvious answer is removal....

But, I think that's not what you're asking...

There are theater supply places that offer an very good grade of stage makeup that would conceal the dreaded 5:00 shadow...

That's all I can think of at the time...

Hi Rachel,

A couple of things helped me :

One trick is, prior to concealer and foundation, use an orangy-red lipstick (doesn't have to be expensive) and dab it around the beard area lightly (like dots), it will take you a while to determine how much to apply. Then with your fingers (I sometimes put on gloves),

blend it into that area evenly. You should look like you were out in the sun - light sunburn. If it looks to red remove some with tissue. That red "base" seems to block the beard shadow. Continue with normal make up routine and this should help. I should also mention that if you use a cream or liquid foundation, always apply a powder to set the foundation - a lot of people don't and the powder makes a big difference even for concealing things. You may have some trial and error here, but does work when you figure how much to use !

Another thing that helps is to have a tanned face - that hides a lot as well!

In the winter months I even go to a tanning salon or you can get a face tanner.

Also, use a good moisturizing cream of some sort on your face - I use a lotion thats 95% pure Alovera - very good for the skin !

Good Luck !

Jackie :)

Hi again,

Something else that I recently started using and Luv, are the mineral powder foundations that are out now - there are many brands out there, I use Cover Girl myself and find that it conceals a lot without having that heavy make up feeling. You can build it up in problem areas as well. I would also recomend that you get a quality set of brushes - a good brush blends your make up much better than a cheap one !

I hope this helps !

Later,

Jackie :)

Hey, Jackie

That's interesting.....

Never heard that one before...

Thanks for that...I'm sure that will be helpful to many of the girls!

Something popped into my head just now. Would waxing do the trick, along with the help of makeup?

Now I've never waxed my face, Rachel. But I have waxed just about every other part of my body and I will say this. Ouch.

And think on this, the number of follicles on your face per square centimeter greatly exceeds the number of follicles elsewhere. Plus, you need a certain amount of growth before you can effectively wax, meaning you'll have to grow it out a bit before you could even attempt waxing.

This is not to say you cannot do this. I'm just not sure if it's a good plan of action for you. Perhaps someone else here has attempted this process and can answer this with more certainty?

Don't hurt yourself!

I'm currently desperate for some way of easily removing facial hair from the root for myself.. I believe it's the length of hair beneath the skin that causes the persistent grey tinge.

I ran my epilator across my chin a few days ago. It seems to work but was far too rough to tolerate. It also only works on the longer hairs, it just pulls short hairs painfully without removing them. Lots of follicles seemed to bleed after this.

This weekend I've been plucking with tweezers, it seems to work great on the few places I've managed to do it consistently, but despite slaving for hours I've still barely made a difference. This is probably because of hair growing out. Maybe with persistence this will be worth while and perhaps make an epilator a viable maintenance option.

I'm going to continue to spend the next few nights working with my tweezer, failing that I'm going to try sugar waxing. Supposedly sugar wax sticks only to the hair and not the skin, making it less painful to use in sensitive areas. This will require

Well the first thing is use baby oil. It seems to get a close shave and then I use skintamits shaving cream. and shave with the grain and then against appling shaving cream in between. The razor I use is the Schick Hydro 5. It is very good for facial hair and body hair.

Sugar waxing is pretty good but only pulls longer hairs. It does stick to the skin too, feels a lot like pulling a strong sticky plaster from your face. Its also really annoying if you want to make it to get the right amount of sugar to fluid. When I tried it was really hard but after a few pulls became really sticky and messy. After that is pulled about 1/4 of the hair on my face.

Epilating really hurts! Cream will burn if you put it on directly and doesn't really take all the hair anyway. Another thing you can try is a bendy spring Epistick, I'm guessing that will work as well as an eplilator and tweezers.

It seems if you don't mind the pain you can pull them using some mechanical device. If you have the money killing the roots with laser, electro or other method is best.

Wish that beauty companies would come up with an idea for men other than forcing us to shave all the time :(.

Hi Rachel, I'm new here.

Ouch is right! My roommate is a theatrical makeup tech and says that facial waxing can be done. He claims to have done it. You just have to let it grow out long enough to stick to the wax first. When you wax, do it in small sections. Try not to get in a hurry or you could injure yourself. We're going to get the home kit soon and do my face.

On a completely different topic, we're working on making breast forms this weekend. I'll post the results.

There are a number of facial depiliants formulated for men with sensitive skin that are prone to razor burn and razor bumps. Check at any beauty or barber supply. Being a chemical treatment, however, they can cause a chemical burn. I used one years ago, don't remeber the name, but it's got a picture of a man in top ahat and tales as the trademark.

Can't use it anymore, I've developed a sensititvity to it due to some medications I used to take.

If 9 out of 10 parts are ok, that doesn't mean I need to accept the bad parts (that are aimed directly at me).  That seems suicidal.
    • Ivy
True, most of it has nothing to do directly with us.  It's the parts that do that are the problem.   I see the  few problematic statements as being a big problem.  Just because a lot of it may be okay, doesn't change that. Even supposing the rest of it might be good for the country, it doesn't help me if I'm being "eradicated".  I suppose I should be good with that, because it's for the "greater good".  If me being gone would please a number of people, then it's my civic duty to disappear, and vote to implement that.
    • Ivy
Yeah.  There are already laws against assault.  I don't think the overwhelming majority of trans women have any desire to harass cis women.  Speaking for myself, if I go into a women's washroom, it's because my eyeballs are already floating - not for kicks.  And I worry about getting clocked and assaulted by some guy being a "hero."

Only three, maybe four, sections even mention transgender.  Most is a conservative agenda I have no problem with.   In the sections that mention transgender, there are very few lines.  Those lines ARE problematic, in every case. Unequivocally.  I can't see some of them standing up in court.  In one case a recommended policy goes against a court decision, which strongly suggests the implementation of that policy would be stopped in court.    Anyone maintaining that this is written simply to support Trump, to support him becoming a dictator, to crush transgender people is feeding you a line.  Nor is it an attempt to erase transgender people.   People will have to decide if the overall goals are worth the few problematic statements.  Overall, I support it.  Of course, I have some reservations.

It is unfamiliar, therefore threatening.   For 90% or so of the population, gender id can be simply and quickly determined by a quick anatomical observation.  They have no understanding and cannot imagine what it would mean to have a body different from the id.  It is unimaginable.  Therefore, wrong.   So there is this strong headwind.   I haven't entered this discussion, but here is a script: A: I can't imagine what it must be to have TG. B: You're a man, right? A: Well, of course. "amused" B: Imagine you were required by law and custom to wear women's clothing all the time. A: It wouldn't happen. B: Okay, but for the sake of the argument... A: That would be disgusting.  I would be very uncomfortable. B: You have it.  That is what TG people go through all the time. 24-7-365. A: Really? B: And then they are told they are perverts for having those feelings.  The same you just described. A: I see. B: And someone comes along and tells you you need conversion therapy so you will be comfortable wearing women's clothing all the time. A: I think I would break his nose. B: You understand transgender folk better than you think.

I have found some people correlate TG = child predator ... just as some have correlated homosexual = child predator...    I am baffled by the TG = unsafe connection ... my wife tends to think this way, that this is all about sexual deviancy ... I try to ask how my preference for wearing frilly socks with embroidered flowers and a comfortable camisole under my lavender T-shirts is sexually deviant (or sexual anything) but I don't get very far...

Best wishes to you as you take this step ... many blessings to you!

Not sure.  The perp is a minor.  The problem here is NOT transgender, the problem here is incompetent and criminal administration.  See https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/family-of-loudoun-co-student-sexually-assaulted-ineptitude-of-all-involved-is-staggering/3231725/ It is more than annoying that people think the problem here is TG and that other people think the solution is some stupid statewide law.  Like an appendectomy to deal with an ingrown toe nail.    Since Loudon, I recall a boy was asked not to use the girl's restroom at a high school by one of the girls.  He, overwhelming her with height and weight,  assaulted her, claiming he had a right to be there.   Later I think eight girls beat him severely in another girl's restroom.  Again the problem is not transgender, the problem is assaults in restrooms and common courtesy.  TG is used as a smokescreen and it seems to paralyze thought among administrators who do not want to do anything to provoke controversy.

Time to get with your Primary Care doctor and be referred to a neurologist or an orthopedist.  It could be many things, too many for any of us here to guess at.

Other than the Boy Scout motto, oath, and law. I use two:   When asked how I'm doing? In all honesty I reply. I would have to make something up to complain. If asked to explain further: I reply. I know someone is having a tougher time than I am, and I pray God blesses them.   I also recite this quote that I have tagged in my signature: Courage, doesn't always roar. Sometimes it's the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."-Unknown    Saying these things daily keep me motivated.   Mindy🌈🐛🏳️‍⚧️🦋

If this goes on, I am conceding the real possibility of being stopped in WM or somewhere by a concerned citizen who tells me, "Lady, God made you female.  I don't think you should be trying to look like a man. You need to return to your true gender and be comfortable living your life out as a woman."   Begin odd and awkward conversation.  I have been thinking about this this morning.

There are many MAGA GOP types who are not transphobes, of course. Some MAGA GOP types are transgender.

I'm hoping to read the next section today.  Many of the reforms they are calling for are good, such as expediting the military procurement process, and have nothing to do with transgender issues.
