Okay, I might get some slack for this, and I'm not attacking you Lizzy and I am willing to bet you didn't mean this the way it sounded. But am I the only one who gets offended when someone says something like this? Like being a trans-guy is not a "real male" ? :-/ I've seen comments like this on more than one occasion and it just irks me when I do. I see being trans as having a birth defect, so to me it's similar to telling a guy who was born without a leg that he "looks like a real male" when he has a prosthetic leg attached, etc. As if missing that leg somehow makes him less of a man. :-/

Don't mean to thread hijack, 'n yes Calvin you definitely do look good in your pics, the hairstyle you've got seems to match you and you look masculine (I believe you had asked about haircuts previously too right?) ... You remind me of Liev Schrieber I believe the actor's name is...

Just look at Transbucket sometime and you'll see plenty of good-looking guys who don't look like an "emulation" of anything.

I don't plan to become an "emulation" of a man. I plan to make my body match my male self, and therefore everything I do, say, or wear will be what a man does, says, or wears.

Whoah... that one hit me like a punch in the gut. That's a pretty negative take on the whole thing.

I'm actually much older than I look (early thirties). I know a bunch of transguys who are happy and love their new lives. I know it's not easy, but neither is my current life (been getting threatened, harassed, thrown out of women's bathrooms since I was 10 years old). I refuse to concede myself to a life of hell and torture. I know dudes can be rough on each other, but I have a HUGE support network including my family and friends and my best friend of 16 years who is a happy, healthy, successful transman with a top-notch career ahead of him, a wife, and two lovely daughters. I'm prepared for the "hey shorty" comments and other such male harassment; in a way, I've been dealing with it my whole life since I've been passing as male for maybe 75% of my life, at least in public. I spent 7 years in successful practice as an attorney - never once got harassed about my appearance.

I know there will be trials and tribulations, but I refuse to accept that the road to transition is ALWAYS the road to misery and death. Sorry.

Also - I just have to add this - you have no idea what kinds of "beat-downs" I've had in my life. I kind of resent the implication that transitioning will be the biggest beat-down. I've survived regular beat-downs as a child; beat-downs at the hands of addiction; beat-downs from the ghosts of PTSD that still haunt me. I refuse to give up, I strive towards health every day, and I am as happy as I've ever been.

You want what I wish I never had to deal with. Straight cis-gendered guys go through the socialization process scarred for life... You didn't grow up socialized this. I empathize with your past experiences, you're going for another round. Sucks doesn;t it? Trans dudes have a ton of latitude when it comes to expression. My girlfriend can wear my stuff, no problems, inverse, problems.

I don;t know why I write this. You know what the deal is. It's so screwed up, just look at all these hyper feminine MTF types. Talk about shooting over the moon... I've had to suffer the male socialization process, I don't even know who I am. I've had the core of my personality systematically stripped from me.
