I was looking at my old photos and it seems over the span of 8 months the effects of hrt have been compounding quicker.

This was back in the winter a few months into hrt.

Hi Natalie,

You are living proof to the advice given to give HRT some time rather than FFS right away. From what I can tell, your skin has a softer tone, your face has developed a more feminine shape, and it sure looks like your neck has gotten more slender. Can this be possible???

I hope so, I could sure use a more slender neck, but figured it was not really possible unless weight loss would help.

Hi Natalie,

I hope so, I could sure use a more slender neck, but figured it was not really possible unless weight loss would help.

I don't know if my neck itself has gotten thinner but I know the muscles that kind of arch from the neck down to the shoulders (don't know the name) have gotten a lot smaller over time. It also means I can't lift squat anymore and I couldn't even open the pickle jar I bought today without help.

I can't get over how much my face has changed. It's unreal.

Yes, your face really shows good changes, Natalie. The contour is definitely more feminine.

Yeah I was sure to show what I look like smiling and not smiling. It's interesting to note that my cheeks poof as much now when I'm not smiling as when I was smiling before hrt although that sample photo is a little too blurry to tell in detail.

I have been on hrt since January 10th 2010 just about before I turned 29. I'm taking my hormones and anti androgen in the form of a pill and am using the generics from Target. So yeah it's possible to look passable.

One thing that I like on me and seems to happen to most, is the puffier cheeks, which becomes very apparent when one smiles...I see that on you, too....

Yeah you've always had a beautiful smile since I've known you.

with hrt I think it's really just new fat deposits on the face. My jaw is just as wide as it was before and my brow is more pronounced then on most woman but I must have hit the point where I have more female traits then male on my face.

Although I wouldn't mind getting my jaw shaved down a little on the side. HRT also had almost no affect on what little body hair I started with. It's a little finer but still growing, so I'm still shaving it until I can afford permenant removal. Not everything is fixed by hrt.

It's not just the hormones that change us. Yes, there are some amazing physical changes that happen (and, as you've said, some that don't...sadly). But I really believe the hormones allow us to actually shed the personas we've been forced to live with and be who we really are. When I see your most recent photos, I see the real you and it is not just a product of hrt.

Not just that, but who we project. It's like the hormones give us a hammer with which we can shatter the hard cocoon that has always been around us. We come out and are different, both inside and out. People see what we want them to see. When I look at pictures of you, I see a woman because that is who you want me to see completely.

Does that make sense?

I agree - it is like we become what we really are and people now see us like that! An aura of sorts.

And donno - my HRT seemed to really solve many of my problems, my skin is less oily, my hair smells sweeter, my car runs better and I now sleep through the night. I once slept like a baby (waking up every three hours crying) and that's gone!

I still haven't managed to win the lottery - which I assume will happen now that I am on HRT - but Sally says I would have a better chance if I buy a lottery ticket. Always something!

      Maybe surface tension?   I was in a political debate yesterday and it got way too focused on social stuff and I just had to steer the conversation back to how natural gas transitions to a liquid under pressure.  One of the people I was debating had a career working in that field and it was a good opportunity to expose stuff like that.  He mentioned that it isn't just pressure, it is temperature too.  So then I mentioned how the lines are running underground and asked how that played a role in it.  He came back saying that natural gas is a liquid under pressure.  I guess I didn't get a straight answer on that, but it did move my thinking one step down the road.  Perhaps I should have been more direct with him and asked him at what temperature and pressure.  Is there a chart?   I feel people would be better off if they paid more attention to the objects in their environment instead of focusing on some of the things that we hear so much of in the news.  People are pretty clueless as to how much trigonometry plays a role in so many things in our society.  Even land surveyors don't really use it anymore because programmers locked it away in a function.  Much like how cascading style sheets (CSS) is a wrapper for math.  I wonder what former president Trump thinks about all of that?  He must have some knowledge of how his buildings are constructed, right?  There certainly is a part of me that thinks he is just putting on a show about all of this.  Perhaps I'm wrong though.  All kinds of people in the world.

      Oh, my "maybe this person is an egg" story is the (male presenting) piercing person and I discussed body hair removal methods, he says he doesn't want any hair except on his head, which is what I said during a couple hair removal sessions before and just after the egg cracked.

      I, too, am lucky.  Here in the UK I have a great therapist, a fully supportive GP, and a psychiatrist and endo who look after me and my needs.  I found the therapist on Psychology Today.

      Over the last few years of being on this site and going through medical transition, I've come to own the M->F identification.  Funny, I made a typo of M->T.  It is a curiosity if I'll ever put Gender: Female on this site.  It is my intention to be there someday.   Right now, because of career stuff and a high stress event with an electric hair clipper last fall, I'm feeling much more masculine than I would like.  I think that once I make some decent headway with my third career, I'll settle into a more feminine feeling.   I never really considered gender very much.  I certainly always used a feminine appearance as my presentation goal. I think that when I was young, I briefly had the idea of transitioning, but I convinced myself quickly that medical transition would be a bad outcome, so I put all those feelings and ideas in the closet for decades.  I'm still very apprehensive about medical transition.  I've always taken health to be a high priority for me.  I wrote a book last December about my fears of it all and my conclusion ultimately is that sometimes there is more to life than being a pillar of health.  It's important to take some chances if that is where your heart takes you.
